They buy some of the tubesites and take a bite out of that revenue for themselves, while controlling what content viewers can see on said tubesites. Then they up their stake in the webcam biz, and tone down the film production to more marketable ("niche") levels/titles.

also the industry works hard to shut down the torrent sites making it harder to pirate.

about 10 years ago there was a site named empornium which had porn torrents galore. last I checked, it was shut down, as was its replacement.

it's really a fascinating shift in the industry as a lot of girls are attempting to create their own subscription sites and sell directly to the dudes instead of going through the porn studios. it's a biologically flawed strategy however since men crave variety and will not want to pay to just see the same girl get naked over and over again.

Don't underestimate the thirstiness of many a western male-their devotion to individual pornstars can run very, very deep. They'll go to war for some of these hoes.

people still have favorite porn stars and fetishes that they will pay for. i dont think production costs are high either. after all porn stars dont make that much money, directors, light guys and camera men are not making much either. since the content can be distributed online that makes it cheaper than before since tapes/dvds production arent involved. its also easier for consumers to buy content this way since no packaging/shiping involved, if they are horny they just pay the credit card and have instant access to the content. aditionally its probably easier/cheaper to do marketing to target audiences through the internet.

that said the profits for the porn industry might not be as high as in the past

There is a huge shift in the porn industry right now. In the future there will only be a few key players that will control most of the market when they buy out most of the small players (Manwin). The same will happen in mainstream if they are not already happening.

Completely false. These days with the mass amount of free content available, having a site with a lot of content means nothing. It could actually be counter-productive as its seen as low quality content, in many case IT is low quality content.

It seems like there is a big boom in "amateur sites" or pornstars with their own private sites that require memberships, etc. A lot of these women offer to let their "members" fuck them, while it's on camera and will end up on the web, it seems like a lot of guys jump at the chance to do this. The problem with some of these well known porn sites is that they have become very "homogenous", in the sense that they dont have much variety anymore in their pornsites. For example i was a brazzers member for a while and i didnt mind pay 130 dollars per year to be a member and watch all movies from the best big butt chicks. But soon as they (brazzers) noticed that many members were not too interested in big butt movies, they stop publishing movies by some of the best big butt porn stars (Luscious Lopez is a good example), the same happened with minority girls (mainly black girls), they noticed that the majority of members were not interested in watching them, so they stop publishing their movies.
