DC Embassy Events
I get e-mails sometimes (I don't know how I got on the listserv) for embassy events in DC. Like the embassy of a particular country (i.e. Australia, Italy, Barbados, Costa Rica, Saudi Arabia, etc) will send me an e-mail saying tickets to an event of theirs are being offered for sale. They are usually in the $50-$80 range. It seems to require formal attire and offers food, drinks and some kind of cultural program and opportunities to mingle.

Has anyone gone to any of these events? I wonder if it's a good way to meet chicks or at least good contacts.

RE: DC Embassy Events
I have gone to a Alliance Francaise event, which was at the Washington Club in Dupont Circle. There was certainly a mix of ages there, so unlike a bar, some portion will be completely beyond the age of interest (i.e. 50+). Most of the people I saw there came either in pairs or in groups of 3-5 people. I think there were some solo guys too. There were definitely some attractive girls there, but the distribution did not really skew to hotness. Ratio was decent, but somewhat more men than women. Decent buffer style food and all the wine you could drink. Lots of opportunities for mingling.

I went to a few some years ago (UK, France, Germany, Korea, Peru). Wasn't impressed and haven't been back. Crowd definitely skewed older. YMMV. I did meet an art gallery owner at the Peru event who invited me to some parties, but those were older crowd too. Most chicks are too cheap to go I think!!

If you find out how you got on the receiving end of the embassy emails I would like to know too Smile
