If you follow the advice on the BKK threads on this forum, you can have a great time in BKK and know where to go/stay. There will probably be forum members there when you get there, so hit them up.

1 month in each location is fine. Personally, I prefer to stay in a place for a few months, but I think 1 month is enough to get a decent feel for the place.

How are you able to stay for so long visa wise? You leave after your 3 month tourist and then come back every month to renew your 30 day?

I'm American, so I got a double entry tourist visa so that I could stay for 6 months and only have to leave the country once.

Scotian, how long are you staying? I hope to get back not too much after you get there.

Just for fun, some of the shit that happens in BKK on a nightly basis (from last night):

-Smashing tequilas with Japanese air hostesses (they opened us + bought drinks), who fly BKK <-->Tokyo. Tried to pull them to the next club but they got away :/
-After approaching a couple girls in the club, the entire dancefloor contingent of sexy, well-dressed Thai girls goes spectator-mode and start eyeing us like we're prime fillet steak.
-Met an insane Scottish guy who, upon telling him I'm a writer, promised to take me to the Burmese border to report on the illegal dog-meat trade, and to "make my name as a journalist"
-Took back a hot girl that I was introduced to at the start of the night - pull was essentially an afterthought. It was simply understood that she was going home with me. She patiently waited all night as I chatted to other girls, then gladly hopped in the taxi with me.


That was a wednesday night. BKK rocks

to be honest I didn't low budget it at all, my place was 1500 us a month and pimp, gym access which since it was just me and a weird russian dude who used to spandex up and spend an hour flexing was pretty much a private gym, infinity pool overlooking the water, maid that came in daily and cleaned up my messes, sauna steam room so I don't know the specific names of the venues from personal experience but there are guest houses that are clean and cheap all over the place and hoards of young tourists occupy them so I know they're cheap, they can be finicky with you bringing girls back, demanding passports etc which is a buzzkill when you're good to go and you're both lit so double check about that before checking in. Location wise if you're okay with riding a scooter your options open up, you can get away from the main drag and save some money or get a nicer place for your money but if you'd rather not scooter then tuk tuks will add up if you get out of the core, you can always get scooter cabs which are about a 1/3 the price of the tuk tuks but if you're bringing girls back then thats out, even with a scooter if I could help it I'd want to be as close to Bangla as possible, just makes transition from bar/club to pad easier. Being within walking distance of Bangla is the place to be, patong beach is right there and every tourist goes there. Tip your chair guy well at the beach your first day and they'll never forget you, I gave him a 20 dollar tip and went back to the same guy every time and he'd line me up beside groups of hotties, in front of groups of topless girls and all I'd have to do is wait for a time to open them, usually they'd take care of that with a take a pic, put lotion on me, or whatever, last thing you want is a shitty spot not near the talent. Bangla works just cause besides being so close to the beach all the clubs and bars are on that strip so stumbling out of a club with a girl in tow is easy and again tourist hub, all nationalities are repping strong out there. Jungceylon mall is at the top of the block and that place is jammed with Russian girls so its the best spot for day gaming russians, check out the sushi joint in the mall, it's terrible but every girl will be russian. There are other good beaches, but for the most selection you want to be nr Patong Beach...Kata, Kamala etc attract a niche market, primarily russian families and couples depending on season but the most variety is where I said and it's a younger crowd. Sorry I couldn't be of more help with specific places but if I can answer anything else let me know.

I'm planning on being in Asia for about 4 months, I don't really have any set plans, I just have a bunch of money and a one way ticket. I figure I'll stay in BKK for a week or so to party and get used to being in Thailand then leave.

I'd like to focus on my health and getting in shape, that's why I'm planning on heading up to Chaing Mai and hitting up a muay thai camp or something like that instead of partying my ass off down south or in BKK, although I plan on making it to the islands for some partying in January.

Of course, there's always a slight chance that I get there and end up strung out on smack with a bunch of tranny hookers in some BKK slum, but I'm going to try and avoid that!

Scotian, if you go on a one way ticket to BKK to be on the safe side, just go on airasia.com and buy a cheap one way out to KL or HK or Singapore or anywhere thats cheap and bring it with you just in case the immigration or the airline you're flying to Bkk asks for.

Depends on the person at immigration. I was asked once, not asked another time. I feel like a lot of it depends on the length of the line at BKK. Immigration can be hellacious at BKK if you come in at the wrong time.

Thanks for the advice. From your post it seems like I will focus on a good location. Near Patong beach. I can't wait to try to hook up with some Russian chicks, and try to get some more flags. My goal is 10 flags in a month and a half. Which I think is doable since I have no european flags and only 3 asian flags.

I've never been asked anywhere before, but to be safe instead of paying for an actual ticket I always print out something that looks in every way like a real ticket but isn't. For example, if you book a flight on Singapore Airlines from the website you'll get to a point before you have to pay where you can email the itinerary to yourself. When you get the email it looks pretty much like a real ticket, you just haven't paid for it yet. Print that out and no border official could know the difference.

1 -way ticket to BKK is fine if you get your visa beforehand. You only need the onward ticket if you're going for the "visa-on-arrival". and in that case yes it has to be flying out of BKK. But if you get the visa beforehand (which = filling a form, posting your passport with a check for a few bucks), they will see the visa stamp in your passport and you don't need an onward ticket.
