This is the danger of these call girl type operations. If she gets busted, she'll cough up the black book in a deal to get her own charges reduced. It happens with far bigger operations than her little gig. The madam will publicly threaten the release of names, and every dude in that book starts shitting himself. If you get a grandstanding prosecutor, they'll try to ruin guy's lives just for kicks. This is somewhat safer than fucking with streetwalkers (if you get busted in your car, some cities will publish your name in the paper, try to confiscate your car, etc.), but it's still risky. Why she recorded the sessions is baffling though. Did she do it for security purposes? If so, after she was done she should have erased the footage.

I'm 100% sure that at least some of the people charged will get off. I wouldn't be at all surprised if everyone including the alleged prostitute walks in this one. The state needs witnesses. Most likely, the only people who are completely sure that acts of prostitution occurred are the guys who have been charged and the alleged prostitute. Because all of these people have been charged and all run the risk of incriminating themselves, it may be best for everyone to invoke their priviledge against self incrimination and refuse to testify, even as a state's witness. If there is no testimony from the guys in the case against the alleged prostitute and no testimony from the alleged prostitute in the case against the guys, the state may very well have difficulty proving anything. What they sometimes do in order to get the testimony of people who have charges pending is to drop the charges of the person who they want to testify and grant that person immunity, which would prohibit the state from refiling the charges against the witness. Often when women are charged with prostitution, services are offered to an undercover police officer who of course becomes a state witness against the alleged prostitute. The article does not state that any undercover cop was involved in this one. Even if one were involved, I don't see how that could really affect the cases against the guys who are being charged.

The article states that many of these guys were videotaped. What exactly do these videotapes contain? People entering a dance studio? People having sex? They may very well not contain anything incriminating. In addition to problems related to the content or lack thereof of the videotapes, I believe there may be an additional problem for the state if they intend to introduce the videotapes. I stated in another thread that all evidence must be properly authenticated in order to be admitted into evidence. Authentication requires that the proponent of evidence prove that the evidence represents what it proports to represent. Here, without the testimony of the prostitute or the guys who are being charged, who can properly authenticate the videos? I could definitely see a court granting a Motion to Suppress the videos.

They love putting the names of guys charged with engaging or attempting to engage in prostitution in the newspaper. I remember not too long ago, I received a call from a newspaper asking me to comment on one of my clients being charged with solicitation of prostitution. I was not at all happy that they called me and I abruptly ended the conversation without providing any type of response. They simply put in the paper that I declined to comment. Great.

I am also seeing a trend with regard to prostitution stings. They seem to disproportunately target persons who are not United States citizens. This can seriously ruin someone's life. To the best of my knowledge, it was not a factor in this case, but it seems to be a growing phenomenon. Prostitution related offenses involve moral turpitude and can in many cases cause persons to be deported, especially if a person has multiple convictions.

I don't engage in prostitution, but it's really not my place to condemn those who do. The moral of this story is if someone choses to engage in that activity, the only acceptable option is to hop on a plane and go somewhere it is legal. It will obviously be cheaper, safer, and as long as you don't make other unrelated mistakes, your name will not end up in a newspaper in the United States or anywhere else.

This. I don't normally do P4P but when I do, always outcalls to hotel or my place. You can't get taped and less likely to get robbed.
