Manbags/satchels/shoulder bgs opinion?
Reading various Game blogs I have encountered a common disgust about the item called mans shoulder bag or satchel or sometimes called murse (from man=purse). In short this thing:

http://www.zippycart.com/ecommerce-news/...manbag.jpg

Now I suspect this might be American thing because a further googling showed that many people in american sites consider them unmasculine. This strikes me as wierd because here in Baltics where I live, they are generally accepted an no one will consider you a lesser man because you wear one. In fact most man are wearing it both alfas and betas. I haven't heard a single negative comment about these bags from both men and women.

I myself use one that looks somewhat like this:

http://www.jklclothing.co.uk/p/p-leather...-4361.aspx

only black.

I find it extreamly comfortable, because I need to carry multiple things on me:

1)Keys form car, from my flat and from multiple flats of girls.
2)My thick wallet filled with lots of cash and discount cards, credit cards and traffic/work pass cards gym/library membership cards etc.
3)Fresh mint
4)Pocket knife
5)Smartphone
6)Second phone (work subsidized two phones are useful when giving girls just one number no surprises while talking to other)
6)Paper notebook also useful for folding and putting in some documents
7)Pen
8)Lighter

Without it I would either have to spend half hour every day planning and packing to take only the things I need for next home leave that would be a huge waste of time and would limit my ability to change plans.

Or I would have to walk with bulging pockets that would look ugly. especially in summer.

I also have found that letting girls hold your "purse" can be a good game tool, a reversed shit-test making the girl to invest in early stages of a hook-up.

The only downside I have noticed to this item is that you need to take it off if dancing in a club and if no one guards your table it might get stolen.

Other than that I find it perfect, but your hate on this thing confuses me. So what do you think? is it really so bad? Is it unmasculine? Would I get ridiculed for wearing it in USA? And what would be alternatives to it? Seriously how do you live without it? I just cannot. Do you think women percieve it as something unmasculine even if the surrounding culture doesn't?

So bad attitudes I have read about this thing really puzzle me. Even seems a little bit unfair and misandric. Why couldn't men use bags when women can wear trousers? Please weigh in.

I wear a shoulder bag. (I'm not an American.)

I've never had a problem wearing one. If anyone in the hypothetical future has a problem with it, they can fuck themselves.

I used to wear them but stopped since it is not part of my style (corporate/suit kind of guy). But you can see them everywhere.

These are more common in Italy. I bought one many years ago in Florence but never used it.

I usually don't use since everything fits in my pockets but I use Filson (usually just when travelling).

I'm in the market for a leather messenger bag, sort of like from the Saddleback leather company, but not so heavy. I have seen some bags at the links above, but I don't trust the quality of any leather bag that costs $100.

From what I am getting from you guys it really seems just an unreasonoble American prejudice rooted in fear of being percieved as unmasculine.

Could someone confirm or deny that people in America view mens shoulder bags with prejudice?

Yeah a woman is free to wear and use whatever she wants while a man must magically make his way without nothing - just be a cash provider. This cash also must grow in his pocket magically while he spends all his time rocking some dumbass womans world aka 50 shades of Gray or Twilight.

You can hold everything you need if you wear a blazer or suit.

For your keys, I would suggest this

http://www.amazon.com/Genuine-Leather-Wa...B000WB2FUU
It makes your keys lie flat and not bulge out your pockets.

If women have purses, men have blazers.

This is why I always wear a blazer. You can fit everything you need to hold without being weighed down by a herby satchel.

Why do you need a notepad if you have a smartphone? At most I'll carry around a couple of folded sheets of A4 and a pen to scribble with - when I have time I transcribe the notes to computer and discard the paper.

Apart from that I hold:

- Small wallet holding three keys and credit cards (3 cards + driver's license, don't bother with loyalty cards)
- Money clip with cash
- Phone + headphones

Condoms go in blazer pockets. In fact, all my blazers have a couple of jimmie hats in the breast pocket under the pocket square so I don't get thrown into involuntary rawdog scenarios. Same for other coat pockets.

That's it! Everything else is superfluous.

I think a lot has to do with the design of the bag. If it looks more of like a laptop bag/briefcase like you're carrying a laptop in there, it should probably be better. But if its less wide design, like in the 2nd picture of the original post, it looks more of like a purse.

I just go ahead and assume guys with those bags are gay.

I'm not saying everyone with one of these is gay, but a lot of the gays have them.

Aloha!

Mage,

To answer your question, yes there is somewhat of an American prejudice against wearing a man-bag.

My theory is that this stems from the fact that America generally has more of a car culture. When you're are making your way around in a car, you can just throw your stuff in the car that you are not using at the moment.

By contrast, in big European cities, the majority of young people (maybe even straight majority) make their way with public transportation. When you leave your home at 8am and do not come back until 6pm or later, one needs a bag to carry stuff other than the standard wallet, phone, keys.

Furthermore, it it is not practical to carry a full size bag because any extra weight/size is really amplified with the miles of walking that one might do in a european city during a day around town (even with public transportation, walking to/from metro or bus stations).

Also, because the bag is used so often for the typical younger european guy, it becomes a fashion accessory.

Personally, I have no problem with the man-bag and I think both the bags in the links you posted are solid.

Thanks that was a comprehensive answer.

In Europe Shoulder bags really are fashionable and actually cars are no substitute. I would even say that the cooler the car - the more likely its owner wears an elegant shoulder bag when exiting car and the less cool the car or if there is no car the more likely that the owner has too many pockets/cargo pants/bulging pockets/or wears some ugly rucksack.

To those who recomended blazers - yeah this is useful in winter, but not in summer.

I used to put away my shoulder bag when going to first dates or important social events, bet the better my game got and the more women appears in my rotation, the less I care to do so.

But now I know that i need to put it away if i ever travel to America!

I probably wouldn't use one unless I had a whip and a fedora to accompany it, but I'd sure as hell use one of those before I would wear a fanny pack.

A bit expensive at £360, but the quality is amazing and it'll last me the rest of my life. Here's one that's been through 20 years of use and aged magnificently:

Decent selection here and you can pick one up for 40% off today using code TRT4146JHCVC. I've been carrying the black nylon one to work for years.
