I rather have genital herp. Because while things are not right downstairs, I can still mine for prospects... I can still day game, work long-term prospects in the cafe, and I can still kiss, too. I can keep thing warm until the penis sore heals. If it's on my face, I'd be reluctant to interact with girls at all.

(If I was married, I'd probably go with oral herp, since I can still have sex with my wife even if I had an outbreak.)

I would rather have oral herpes, because there is much lower of a social stigma attached to it. Something like 99% of people carry the oral herpes virus, but only certain people get sores. Thus there is no fear of spreading it to others.

Genital herpes on the other hand is an STD, and can supposedly be spread even when you don't have visible sores. I think knowing that would really cripple my inner game and I wouldn't be as confident hitting on girls knowing I had an incurable STD.

I know genital herpes really isn't a health concern and that its only become stigmatized relatively recently, but it would still always be on the back of my mind while hitting on girls. The oral herpes would only make me self-conscious while the sore was visible.

Not even a question--genital herp is not a problem (except for maybe a moral one should you continue gaming unabated). Oral herp can be a truly hideous sight and I would imagine it would halt a lot of approaches dead in their tracks. Just going outside with the herp in full view must really mess with your self-image.

my first outbreak of genital herp was pretty nasty, probably 3-4 sores, but I just kept going. I had at least one visible on my crotch region consistently for about 2 years, and no girls ever even noticed. As of now, haven't had any outbreaks in over a year. I think my immune system figured it out, but it sure took a while.

Like 95% of the adult population I have HSV-1 (i.e. cold sores, genital herpes is HSV-2) on my mouth. You can get HSV-1 on your dick just like you can get HSV-2 around your mouth.

HSV-1 is usually one large sore and HSV-2 is usually a series of smaller sores. HSV-1 is less aggressive in terms of the frequency of outbreaks but since the sore is larger and more damaging when it happens, it takes longer for it to heal. HSV-2 is more aggressive in terms of frequency, but the multiple sores are smaller in size, do less damage when they form, and heal much faster.

I got my first cold sore when I was about 19. I've had only about 6 or 7. I'll be 36 in a few weeks. The longest period I went without a cold sore was about 5 or 6 years. In contrast, people with HSV-2 usually have 1-2 outbreaks each year. Many people have an outbreak every 3-4 months.

FWIW, I read up extensively on this topic about 6 years ago when I thought I got genital herpes. Fortunately I only had what I call "gay staph" (I call it that after "gay cancer" which is what they sometimes called HIV/AIDS 30 years ago). Gay staph is a staph infection of the skin that is common among people who have sex with multiple partners. It's quite common in the porn (straight porn) industry. It just looks like zits that pop up all over your body and I wound up getting a concentration of them around my dick. Fortunately a week of antibiotics fixed that. Also fortunate that my father is a physician (who will give me antibiotics without doing the exam if I tell him I'm pissing fire.)

I'll take my current predicament. I can tell when one is about to happen. It always happens in the exact same place. The area on my lip starts to itch a little and gets slightly firm feeling. If I catch it at that point, I keep a stash of Valtrex, and immediately take 1 gram. I take another gram 6-12 hours later. Then I take another gram 24 hours later, and at that point, it tends to settle down. I'll cut the dosage back to 500mg/24hours for another day or two. If you catch it early enough before the formation of the sore does the damage it can clear out in under a week. And when it does, I know it will be gone for a few more years.

The viruses that cause either condition are kind of neat. The mechanism of drugs like Famvir and Valtrex are also pretty cool as well. The virus travels along nerve paths. The reason why cold sores cause pain is because they form at or near nerve endings, and it's almost like the virus is drilling a hole from the inside of your lip and moving outward. It's also an opportunistic virus. Your body develops antibodies to keep it under control. But if you become immunocompromised from a cold (hence the term cold sore), flu, or prolonged exhaustion, you'll get one.

When you are having an outbreak, you are having symptomatic viral shedding. This is when you're most contagious. On a cold sore, this shedding starts right before you notice the first signs, and usually ends within 48 hours. That's why it's critical to pound Valtrex immediately when you notice symptoms. Genital herpes HSV-2 follows a similar pattern, but I think a shorter period of viral shedding. Once the viral shedding stops, there's no need to continue taking the medication. Asymptomatic viral shedding is theoretically how every ho gets genital herpes, because none will ever admit that they eagerly jumped on a sore covered alpha cock (rationalization hamster says "those are just pleasure bumps.")

Famvir (Famciclovir) and Valtrex (Valacyclovir) are revised forms of Acyclovir which has been around for decades. Acyclovir has shitty absorption. Famvir has decent absorption, but what does get in works very well. Valtrex has excellent absorption and through some chemical mechanism "converts" into Famvir after absorption. Valtrex is the fucking bomb because it can stop an outbreak in its tracks if you catch it early enough.

Also keep in mind that there are several other viruses in the Herpes family:
1. Chickenpox is known as the Varicella zoster virus (HHV-3)
2. Shingles is called Herpes Zoster. Valtrex is the primary treatment for it. (And you've got to take a ton of the shit for shingles)
3. Mono has two names: Epstein Barr, and (HHV-4)

There's increasing speculation that the virus that causes Bell's Palsy is related to zoster virus or Epstein Barr, although anti-viral drugs don't seem to work on it.

If you see a lizard with multiple small sores around her mouth, just remind yourself that she got it from sucking dick.

If I had to choose, the best case scenario would be that you have oral herpes and only have maybe one outbreak a year, if that, that strangers or people that saw you would just explain away as being a harmless cold sore. I would just lay low for that week and a half and rest up.

Not sure if someone beat me to it, but you are not exactly right with what you wrote here. There is no guarantee that you will "get one outbreak every six months that comes with ONE sore that takes 10 days to clear".

Sure some people have recurring outbreaks, but some people only have the one initial outbreak, and then never have any follow up outbreaks. A lot of it depends on your level of health and immune system. The longer you go after the initial outbreak, the weaker the virus becomes in your system, hence the less likely it will be that you will have an outbreak.

Now if your immune system gets out of whack and you have sex with another person who has herpes too, it could be enough for your body to react with another outbreak.

Also, I have read that something like 50% of the population has had oral herpes in their lifetimes, a lot of times people get it when they are younger (middle school), if you've ever had a cold sore on your lips it was probably HSV-1.

On top of all that there are a great number of people who have the herpes virus who are just asymptomatic, they carry the virus, but for whatever reason their body doesn't react with the outbreak of cold sores. Considering 1 in 4 American women are said to have herpes, and with all the raw-doggers on the forum, there is a good chance that a lot of you have herpes, but have just been lucky enough to not have the outbreak.

I think the best situation is to get both and not be symptomatic. I don't get why guys who have never had an outbreak don't want to get blood tested. If you test positive you got it made: immunity without symptoms = peace of mind.

I don't have HSV1 or HSV2 (been blood tested), which makes me sweat getting either one because god knows how my body will react.

That's good to hear, actually. I tested positive for an active Epstein-Barr infection a little over a year ago and ever since then I've had constant cold symptoms: fatigue, headaches, sore throats, general shitty feeling... good to know that shit can be caused by Mono and that it does eventually go away.

Here's my experience with oral herpes. I had the first outbreak when I was a teenager. Over time the outbreaks have gotten less frequent and less severe. For the last fifteen years I've averaged maybe one outbreak every 18-24 months- so not very frequent at all. When I do get a sore now, it's smaller and usually heals within 7-10 days. I don't approach during this time, so that's only 7-10 days every year and a half to two years it affects my sex life. No big deal. Moreover, I still can have sex during this time with a regular girl i just tell them i have a cold sore and can't kiss them. None of them have seemed put off by it , often they still try to kiss me and one even wanted me to go down on her which I refused to do of course. Nor does any girl expect you to disclose that you have oral herpes before you have sex with her.

Good to know. My shit breaks out when my immune system is down, and I was getting wasted a lot at the time this happened, so that was my best guess after the initial shock wore off. Was way too drunk to be nervous with this girl.

I've had the herpes virus (probably both HSV1 and 2) and canker sores since I was a kid. I made the mistake of going down on a girl who later turned out to have it when I was 17, I'm not sure if I got it retransmitted from her or not (doubtful), however, my last outbreak was at 19 and I've tested clean for it since, plus no canker sores or anything.

The one silver lining about oral HSV as a child is that while it's kinda weird, there's no real stigma when you're 10. Then you build up resistance to it, which helps later in life. I'm freaking religious about condom usage and hygiene (I'm probably borderline germaphobic), so I'm not too worried about catching it or anything else.

Afaik, herpes usually lasts for awhile, but can go away (both transmission wise and symptoms) after a significant period of time. A decade or two may be a lot, but remember that after the first few years, the outbreaks go down. My ex was a giant whore (15-30+ cocks a year) and got it, a few years later it's not even affecting her life except taking valtrex with her birth control.

Interestingly educating thread. I've noticed that people that travel intercontinental with any sort of frequency tend to deal with this more than most... lizards aside. My brother-in-law is constantly traveling between EB Europe, Middle East, China, Russia, Tiger countries, South America.. and has had numerous bouts of shingles, fatigue, & weird non-extreme sicknesses, etc.. One of his business partners got freakin SARS..

I don't think its just the jet-lag, but just one of those things that international exposure does to folks living abroad.

Oral is probably better. Because most people don't even realize it is herpes. Most people refer to them as "cold sores" and don't realize that it's HSV-1. Just about everyone has it though most are asymptomatic. So having oral herp is no big deal. I've never had any outbreak of it and I've certainly kissed enough girls to get it. I take it I am one of those lucky people that probably have it but am asymptomatic. I hope that means I'd be asymptomatic with HSV-2 if I have that or ever contract it.
