Yep, DonnyGately makes a good point. Not only self-selection bias, but also confirmation bias, and the biggest culprit lurking in that question, which is circulatory reasoning, are at work here. Also, the word 'slut' has socially pejorative connotations making it even worse. Above all, assuming what you're trying to prove is bad. Really bad.

A proper, scientific way of going about it would be to ask a good question (and to design a questionnaire that would be unbiased and sample from all stratas would be a no small fit). Bear in mind, the only way to go about it is to ask females about their sexual activity - otherwise, we just get an opinion poll which would be of little use.

But to give you an idea, I'd go along with something like this: "How many sexual partners have you had in the last twelve months". Then, you collect the data, do some exploratory analysis, pull some statistical tools (if we just collect data for one variable, we'd do some univariate analysis), get some results, then interpret them.

So, what will we get? Say, that for a particular cohort, we get that women aged X to Y have slept with Z men. Then what? Science is purely descriptive, and trying to force conclusions such that "if a woman slept with more than Z men in the last 12 months, then she is a slut", is a prescriptive statement. And as we've learnt from old, good Hume, you can't have ought from is. To say otherwise, would be on a par with saying 'female bonobos are sluts, for they have sex frequently!' Sounds absurd, doesn't it?

You just contradicted yourself. You claim we have an opinion poll when in fact women have strong incentives to lie about their sexual histories, even on anonymous surveys because they need to lie to themselves to forget past behavior.

So in reality, polling women for their partner counts is in fact an opinion poll. You are just polling women on how slutty they feel about themselves.

Conversely, asking the men is far more reliable, because we have no incentive to lie (to ourselves or others) and the men are the other 50% of the equation. We are the ones these sluts are fucking so the man's perspective is just as valid. Surely there cannot be hundreds of thousands of men online who all happen to agree most women are extremely slutty given the right circumstances. Surely we are not the first to believe women are easily tempted, just as easily as men are if not more so. Trying to explain this as merely a coincidence does not make sense.

Nonsense. That's like saying you can't call someone an ice sculptor because "How many sculptures would they need to make before they cross some arbitrary line?"

In fact, science is not purely descriptive because all descriptor words are already loaded with value judgements. Even numbers. What is considered a "full unit of 1" is still going to be loaded with value judgements.

Since value judgements are unavoidable, it doesn't make sense to avoid them by pretending we cannot measure sluttiness. Of course we can. Any woman who fucks men for fun and not marriage are sluts. That's an easy belief I'd wager 85% of men share, and therefore we can measure it.

I disagree with this definition - but given your definition I would agree that > 90% of women are sluts.

Given the right circumstances, right guy, alibi, etc, women are going to have sex.
