iPhone 5 is 199 (16GB), 299 (32GB), 399 (64GB) on contract. Pre-orders start on Sept 14.

On another note, only emech can start threads on dick size and iphones and have them become popular.

Why would you need the 32 or 64? For chatting up fat girls on Skout with lots of pictures? I don't watch movies or any of that but will make a video of my kid once in a while how much do you really need?

I have the 8gb and it is a stretch for storing pics/vids/some music and a library of apps.

16gb would suffice for me though.

I have the 32GB 4S.

I use it like a USB flash drive to move files back and forth from work to home.
I keep about 12Gb of music on it which I don't even listen to really.

I have a smaller Ipod under my armrest in my car that connects to my stereo.
I can control it from the stereo controls. It rules.

Assuming the current subscription plans will remain the same for Iphone 5, the least amount you'll pay for it is $1159. I'm serious. The cheapest monthly plan is 2-years and $40/month.

I think it was only about a month from launch for the 4S before the no-contract version came out.

If you spend even a couple of months a year traveling you're better off with no contract.

Last time I was in the UK I got a pay as you go plan from 3 for 15 GBP / month; included 1,000 texts, 300 min talk time and unlimited data including iPhone tethering so I could get online with my laptop anywhere!

Meanwhile it's almost $60/month for a much more limited plan in the US. US contracts are often worse value for money than pay as you go deals from the same carrier. Just adding tethering on AT&T is an extra $45 / month. It's ridiculous.

I'm due for my upgrade, so I called Verizon today after Apple wrapped up the press conference in San Francisco to check on availability dates. I was told the phone can be pre-ordered starting this Friday Sept. 14th. As for the ship date, they're being less clear. I've heard the last week of this month. The 16GB model starts at $199 with a 2 year contract. The pre-orders are going to be nuts with this thing. I would recommend calling Verizon Friday morning, or going to a store to reserve one if you have to have it when it's released in a couple weeks. Otherwise you'll be waiting til Christmas.

With that said, as you can see from the image above, the iPhone 4S will now be going for just $99 for the 16GB version. Not a bad deal for a fine phone. Anyone going to take advantage of the steep price drop on the 4S? I'm thinking it over. But I'm leaning towards the 5 right now.

Waiting for tech is normally a bad move. Gets outdated fast. Pay more keep it for longer.

Keep in mind that by now the 4S will have foolproof software while 5 is likely to be riddled with bugs for rthe first 4-5 months.

Apple has pretty good QA so I wouldn't really worry about it.

As a 4S user I'll probably upgrade to iOS 6 when it's out.

Not really. I'll tell you what happens. They start fattening up the apps to work on iPhone 5 hardware which makes the run too slow on iPhone 4s. This forces everyone to upgrade their phones. They've been doing this with PCs for years.

I don't mind dropping a few hundred on my phone every year or two. It's my #1 tool and I know I will get my money's worth (assuming it doesn't get stolen which has happened numerous time, these things must be kept close to the vest these days).
