I feel the following story is important enough to write a post about because I'm sure this is not too uncommon a problem when you guys are out in the field. I figure this story may help some of you.

So me and my crew were at the bar yesterday evening after work. Friday night in DC at a relatively new venue near U Street.

So we're over there on the rooftop standing with our drinks and there's a set of girls behind us sitting together in a circle of stools. One of them was an atrocious whale, the other was normal weight but unattractive, and there was one gem, a fiery hot brunette that everyone had their eye on.

The guys didn't know how to navigate that somewhat tricky situation. They were scared to approach for fear of getting cockblocked by the hottie's fugly friends.

So here's what I did.

Just about the time we re-up on drinks, I notice the whale holding an interesting beer can (prop). It was green and had a UK flag as its logo. I immediately made my way over and inquired about it, immediately drawing the attention of my target (the hottie). Turned out the whale was very knowledgeable about beer - go figure - and we started a conversation about the topic and what I was drinking and the kind of beer I was going for next. I was careful not to show any interest in the whale because girls are very catty about these sort of things and, if good friends, tend to be loyal about not stepping over each other's toes for a man. This is very important to keep in mind.

Instead, by showing that I could have a conversation with her unattractive fugly friend and not show any sexual interest towards her, hottie's interest in me was actually heightened.

I kept the pace of the conversation fast so that I could quickly transition to a crucial question - how they all know each other. This is important because I can finally get the hottie in the conversation.

Turned out the whale was hottie's former roomie while the other fugly was hottie's current roomie. This was perfect because it gave me a clear lane to focus on my target since she was the common link between her friends. I then proceeded to ask questions about hottie's traits as a roomie and made an endless series of jokes about what she might really be like that her friends aren't disclosing to me.

This had everyone laughing and her friends offered anecdotes about situations they've had as roomies. I told some roomie stories of my own and told them that I'm currently living alone and may consider a good roomie for my spare room and invited the hottie to come check it out sometime. It was done in a flirtatious way which she knew meant that I wanted to hang out with her. I handed her my phone and she put her number in while her friends nodded their approval.

Thus, I was able to avert the cockblock that has claimed so many of our fallen brethren.

Excellent work.

I find, however, that I'm so repulsed by fatties and ugly broads that I wouldn't have been able to pull this off.

I had gotten cockblocked so hard yesterday man. I'm glad you did well.

And whats crazy is that the girls who had cockblocked me was laughing when I was making jokes on the bus yesterday.

Learning how to make them chill is the best way to go it seems.

Finding a way to engage the group, and opening someone in the group OTHER than your intended target is usually the best way to negotiate these group situations. In these set-ups I have to figure that the two less attractive chicks KNOW their friend is hotter, thus the target of most men that approach, and will be less inclined to cockblock if you're polite enough to actually treat them like human beings. There's no guarantee of this, but it's probably the best way to approach.

I've found that hotties whose only friends are fuglies or fags have some serious fucking issues.
