Masta Ace - Disposable Arts, Masta Ace - A Long Hot Summer and Sticky Fingaz - Black Trash: The Autobiography Of Kirk Jones are three classic storytelling "concept" albums that I always point to whenever people go on about how Good Kid Maad City was some sort of brand new idea of using an album to tell a story.

I heard that sticky Fingaz album through yahoo music (before Pandora) and it was a great concept story telling album and surprisingly good lyrically. It was almost a decade late tho, if he was able to produce this earlier he would have way more notoriety than he currently does.

No love for A Tribe Called Quest? I used to listen to Midnight Marauders damn near every day when I was younger. Even now when I don't want to listen to contemporary rap, I'll play a few tracks on Midnight Marauders, roll a blunt and zone out.


Under Pressure by Logic is a good album, too. His storytelling is reminiscent of Nas' and his lyricism is just pure raw. Here's a song from one of his old mixtapes(Young Sinatra: Undeniable, I believe).

I'm a Wu fan as much as the next guy, but my interest is leaning more towards Ghostface's new album. Probably one of the most consistent hip hop artists out right now.

Swollen Members' BLACK MAGIC is one of my fav hip hop albums. So many strong songs, great beats and catchy & real lyrics.

Unfortunately, although that album is a masterpiece it is their only good album.
