serious, the best way to impress re: drinks is to know how to make one.
I even came up with several myself, and used to offer guest a free one if they could offer a good name for it, so i now have the recipe for Bronx's, Queens, and Ellis island iced coffee (there was a table of new yorkers in one night)
Maybe a way to get her back to your place for a tasting session?

Right, I wasn't saying it like that.

In a round about way, the goal of a pickup if for a girl to be impressed by you in some way, but for you not to come off as trying.

Even if you're using self-deprecating humor, and conveying that you aren't outcome dependent, the aim of that behavior is to be impressive in some way. It's basically just a way of wording it.

You want to show that you have a deep pocket or that you know a thing or two about alcohols?

Whiskey? no cola (killing the taste and aroma) and no ice (the less ice the better - more liquid) JW Black always does the trick

Vodka? in EE its a basic drink, but if it isn't Belvedere or Black Smirnoff you won't impress anyone ordering it

What girls like is Mojito, Malibu, Sour - the sweeter the better

A powerful drink for chicks, if I pick the drink, is a double vodka gimlet. It's pure alcohol, but the rose's lime juice is so sweet that just a tiny amount will mask the alcohol.

With an ex, I sometimes bumped it up to a triple. She never noticed.

Seconded @ Vicious Do tell us what is the inference of your research on Drinks that are potent yet appear beign.

From what I have seen

1. Mix Vodka, Crytal Light and Ice and water (Deadly really hides the vodka taste). This is e-mech's drink

2. Lond Island Tea (LIT) like Arkitecht mentoned.

On a separate note I do not like to drink when gaming, Mostly I will just get a Beer(stella) just to mingle but what would be least potent Manly Drink to hold in the hand when making rounds at the Bar....
Rum and Coke ?

Old fashioned

Martini

Gin & tonic (spring/summer)

Manhattan

Dark & Stormy

Margarita rocks (summer)

Single Malt Scotch neat (fall/winter)

High end bourbon neat(fall/winter) or rocks(spring/summer)

High end rum neat (fall/winter) or rocks(spring/summer)

High end beer

I drink what i drink because I like it-not to impress women

However I think it does matter to women what a man drinks; women are attuned to everything a man does, especially when they don't know him well. I get a lot of interest and positive reaction to what I drink "What's that?"- few women know anything about the classic drinks and they do seem to be impressed that I am drinking something they may only have heard of in a film or TV show.

If I'm at a dive bar, sometimes I get away with ordering half a pitcher of beer. Pretty easy way of getting 3/4 a pitcher for half the price. I almost never go to bars, though. Aside from the occasional pint with a few friends for lunch.

If you want to impress a girl with alcohol, throw cocktail parties. It's cheaper and closer to my bed.

I used to order these ultimate martinis...they're a little obnoxious to call but goddamn they're good, it's a bit of a James Bond moment. Say:

"I'd like a martini. Half vodka, half gin. (I'll eyeball their selection and go for something like Tito's vodka and Beefeater gin) Lillet Blanc instead of vermouth. Up with a twist"

Favorite drink to make a girl - caipriniha. Very strong, very tasty like a spiked lemonade. Allows me to get into my Brazil travel. Next would be a moscow mule with Russian Standard or Chopin vodka.

Favorite drink to order myself - Sazerac if they can make it, if not glenlivit 12 few ice cubes. I may specify 3 next time, not a bad idea.

Have a first date in a little bit, let's experiment and see if it has any effect.

Caipirinhas are probably the most delicious drink I've ever had.

I'm a big fan of gin & tonic, but also sometimes I go for an old fashioned or a white russian.

I think girls are more impressed by a guy who doesn't order fruity drinks or really complicated show-off drinks, than by a guy who orders something that sounds impressive. In general, I try to be impressive by accident only, because the times that you try to impress a girl are usually the times when you come across as working too hard for her respect/attraction/attention.

Caipirinhas are awesome for this.

They are hard to make well, though.

Edit: Also, what do you guys think about white Russians? Tastes like alcoholic chocolate milk.

Not many places have heard of it, fewer carry it, and if they do be prepared to spend 50 bucks or so for a single drink.

But everyone within earshot when you order will ask you about it on the odd sounding name alone.
