Ya, the difference is that while you go on holiday to the place, I LIVED THERE. I was born and raised in South Africa, spent a lot of time working throughout Africa too. Congo, Rwanda, Namibia, Botswana, Zambia. I speak two African languages. There are places you simply cannot go without an armed escort. Many of the major cities, if you are a white, make you target number 1. Because you are white. Hell, even in South Africa, the level of brutality we have seen against whites over the last 20 years has led to an exodus of almost 30% of the white population. South Africa was one of the largest gold producers in the world. The problem was that Russia came to power and communism came to the fore. No, but being an African I actually have an understanding of the culture and the countries. I know the sad history of the place and I also know the real history of the place. No, but Rome never inherited the infrastructure Africans did either. They were never given a helping hand by anyone. They were never given reparations or aid. They were never given the promise that a stronger power would never invade. They were never given loans they could not pay.

Whoremonger, violence in S. Africa happens to be amongst the highest in the continent and it sounds to me that your view is shaped mainly by living there. I have friends that have traveled to African countries, both as explorers and for research. They didn't have any problems and said that people were friendly and respectful. A white couple I know went to travel in Kenya for a month. They said Nairobi was dangerous at night, but as long as you don't do anything dumb, they didn't have any problems. I've met whites that have been other African countries and said there are some danger spots, but for the most part, people are welcoming and friendly. South Africa has a long ugly racial history and there's a lot of strife and resentment between races, so it may be an unusually bad place in that regards and some may feel that it's open season on the white man because of what they did to blacks. It's terrible all around, but I doubt that carries over to all African countries.

There's been a ton of conjecture about that on these pages.

I really wouldn't call myself an expert on the subject. I have been living here for a year and a half, but was until very recently in a very exclusive LTR and not interacting much with girls here. They create the link between the two groups, and now girls meeting boys from the first group feel "safe".

Also, girls here like good bullshitting (chamuyar, or chamullar, not sure how to spell it). I think compliments are OK, once you have established some attraction/connection, o reven before maybe. They are called piropos here, and there's a whole litterature about that, in the tango world in particular. They are certainly well received, what remains to see is if they get you laid. The way they are done here would probably sound over the top or needy to American girls. I have not really been practicing them, but I intend to try and see the reactions.

But really, I would have to see good Argentine guys in action to really understand how things work.

Also, eye-contact works differently here. Girls do look at you, but they generally do it from a distance. As soon as they get near you, they pretend they were not looking at you and if you try and make eye contact, they break it. Apparently (from what friends told me), if you noticed that she was looking at you before - and for that you need to be very alert, I generally don't get it as I don't pay attention to people who are far in my vision field -, they expect you to open them with a compliment, or something funny, original, outrageous... If they are interested, apparently (once more, that does not come from my personal experience, rather from that of a friend who works in a shop on Florida Street selling things to tourists) they will come back at a later point, and then you can really open them (I'm describing a situation where the man is more or less stationary, in a shopping street). Not sure that will be of any direct help, except in understanding better the mind of the Argentine girl. One more funny trivia about eye contact: there is a category of girls that DOES establish a lot of hot and sensual EC: those that are accompanied by their boyfriend. Those are constantly scanning around to test their powers of seduction, even while kissing their boyfriends (people kiss a lot publicly, and sometimes for hours).

It's true that sexuality is not expressed as directly as in Brazil, but I think this eye-contact thing has more to do with pride and male/female stereotypes. Girls do not want to appear easy.

Actually, there is a difference between germanic cultures (and I include America among those) and latin cultures when it comes to eye contact. Women in Latin cultures are expected to behave in a more stereotipically feminine way. In the States, if you inadvertently make eye-contact with a woman, she will smile at you, even if she's not attracted to you. In France, she will usually look down, and if she doesn't (if she sustains your gaze or smiles to you), it can be interpreted as an invitation to talk to her.

But seduction and being attractive is very big here, it is actually the first thing on everybody's agenda. The girls here love creating attraction (and then backing off). When they are abroad, many of them really miss the catcalls and the compliments.

I'm a 29 y/o Light brown, athletic African-American Male with worldly game (32 Flags) and a bit of spanish but I rely on my charm more than anything...

I had the chance to visit Buenos Aires in March, stayed at a boutique hotel and met a surfer friend down there from Ireland who was traveling the country and we hit the scene pretty hard and the women were choosing up majorly we had bottle service every single night (It was extremely cheap). I didnt go to any hip hop clubs either most of the high end clubs in the city, got major eye contact daily on the streets, cafes, restaurants, etc and picked up a few nice Socialite Argentina Flags while I was down there (one-night stand & another chick with major $ I met I ended up spending my last two days with in the city going to tango shows and other tourist ish).

I can't wait to go back (Babygirl wants me to come down and stay at her rooftop apt. in Palmero so why not?) really cool city, nice vibe shopping and I didnt have a hint of racism the whole time I was there. At the clubs I went to I only saw one brotha per night but honestly wasnt worried about it. Just went down there with my own agenda and didnt worry about stuff like that. This was more or less my experience in Buenos Aires. I didn't really had to approached anybody and got my notches not so much because of game but because I had an instant social circle. The night I arrived in BA was election day and I went to this Bar called "Sugar" to see if Obama won. I met a few Black expats living in BA and hung out with them for the rest of the week. I met quite a few of Black African, American, Dominicans and Brazilians living in B.A. and all of them did well with the locals.

I havent been following this thread but I have been living in Argentina for 4 months so here's my input on whether dark guys would do well here:

They are very close-minded and conformist. I think they're fairly racist too, although there are so few black people here it's hard to say. Sometimes they call each other "negro" or "negra" kind of like an insult, saying that a person is a bad person.

Whiteness is a sign of class here, and I'm about as white as it gets. Still, it's very hard to get with girls here. Can't imagine how hard if you're really dark skinned.

I think it'd be close to impossible if you're dark as in looking like a Bolivian migrant. If you're black, at least some of the girls have the image of blacks as "hip" because of rap music. So I'd rather be black there than an Amerindian. Though I could give a damn about Argentine women in the first place.
