Anyone know about these guys? My boy just told me about it and said it's crazy. The suits fit like a glove and are fully cutomizable to your measurements and preferences. Shipping is free. They also have a traveling tailor who's going to be in Chicago soon. You might want to look into when/if he'll be in your city. If you've got your exact measurements down, you can just go on the site and order your suit.

Pro tip for the players that don't know their measurements: visit a local tailoring shop or tuxedo rental outlet and ask for "courtesy measurements."

Yeah, a buddy of mine ordered two suits from them. Wasn't particularly thrilled with what he got, but that's just one guy (might be a little spoiled too; until just recently he'd been taking his shit to the same tailor for years.) He did say their customer service was quite good, so his return went pretty smoothly.

I googled the place a while back and read a lot of negative reviews like that. There were good reviews though I've been thinking of getting one soon. The thing is I don't know if I should wait until my measurements aren't likely to change or not.

they're the fast food of tailored suits, low end materials, average workmanship, have colleagues who went this route cause it's one of the few local canadian options but they almost to a man ended up very unsatisfied with the product and got refunds... you get what you pay for with tailored and bespoke...tough to cut corners... the material costs what it costs and a good tailors gonna charge for his specialized skill set.

I know one of the partners of the company and I bought one of their suits a couple years back for a showing of support.

The pants fit me perfectly. I was really impressed actually.

The jacket I had to send back as my tailor said the arms would have to be rolled forward on it. The second jacket (which they rushed and I had in less than a week) fit much better. The length of the jacket was a bit long, and the seam between the shoulders and arms (still) looks a bit off. Easy fix for my tailor (and Indochino pays for this up to $75).

The material is a pretty good 100% wool. No complaints on the fabric at all. It is more of a summer weight but it could be comparable to Hugo Boss fabric of the same weight.

I am tempted to give them another try. From what I have seen and heard, they are stepping up the quality and their game. For the price, its hard to beat.

I have a few shirts from them and one suit. I took the first shirt and the suit to a local tailor that I have known for years. I wanted to see what he thought (he is old and no longer makes clothes himself anymore, so he wasn't losing my business). He made a few minor alterations on the pants, but he said overall it was a good deal for the price.

After a few measurement changes, the next shirts fit very well. I haven't got another suit from them, but I might. I think if you are willing to spend a couple hundred more you may do better elsewhere, but I'm happy with what I got from them.

I'm exploring made-to-measure sites. Got a shirt/chinos from Indochino and they're ... okay. Don't look for FINE clothes, but for everyday stuff that fits well it's as good or better than you'll get from a department store.

I'm more mixed on moderntailor.com. I REALLY like the customization options, and I've gotten positive comments from everyone who's seen the shirt I ordered. On the other hand, the material is thinner than I expected and I don't think it's really cotton/linen like it said on the website. Still, it looks better and fits better than anything I've gotten off the rack.

I also ordered a jacket, shirt, and trousers from ravistailor.com after visiting their "traveling tailor" that came through near here. Not bad, overall; I think the quality was higher. The only thing I don't like about their site is that it's harder to imagine what the clothes really look like--small thumbnails, etc. They will send a "swatch book" of fabrics, which is nice; then you can see exactly what you're getting.

I'd order from all three again, but maybe different things.

Tough call, chyamor, because each succeeds best at different things.

For customization? Moderntailor, no question--it's ALL customization; there aren't any "stock items" that I can see. Buying a shirt? Pick a fabric. Choose a collar (from a page of different collars in different heights; then choose collar lining, whether you want collar stays, contrasting color, etc). Choose cuffs (barrel? Round? French? Portofino?) Short or long sleeves? Inside fabric for collar/cuffs? Buttons? Pocket? Monogram? Placket? Split back? Darts? What bottom cut? That's REALLY nice in my opinion. Their prices are pretty good too. The only thing that gives me pause is that the fabric wasn't what I expected; otherwise I was really happy with the shirt and will definitely buy again.

For construction? I'd probably give the edge to Ravistailor, based purely on the items I got. The trousers look and feel great, same with the shirt. I'm not as crazy about the look of the jacket, but it's built well.

For ease of use? Indochino. You can look at the items they offer and pick one, and you'll basically get that. I'm not as crazy about the look and feel of what I got, but then what I ordered from them was more basic officewear rather than a suit.

Of the three, my next planned purchases will be from Moderntailor (after getting some fabric swatches from them so I'm clearer on what I'm getting), and the reason for that is that I'm learning about customization and what features I want in a shirt/trouser/suit. As a result, I'm going to try different things and anticipate some failures. By and large, I'm okay with that, and my mindset loves modular customization, so that's my interest.

If a Ravis traveling tailor came nearby again, I'd probably order from them again; the traveling tailor has complete swatches and can discuss your order, and the interaction is good.

Harder call on Indochino. I think if I wasn't so interested in customization I'd be more tempted; they have predesigned suits that almost certainly look pretty good without much effort from the buyer, and the stuff I got from them certainly wasn't bad by any stretch.

I still have to try Black Label (http://www.blacklapel.com); I've heard good things about them and their website looks as professional and easy to use as Indochino.

fuck, ever since I went on indochino, i've been getting their ads everywhere. the clothes are not bad looking though.
maybe buy a cheap suit off ebay, then have someone tailor it is better, at least cheaper.

Given my experience with online tailoring during the last two years, I would strongly advise against going this route for a custom suit. Even if you're well-experienced in this field you will struggle to get pleasing results. There is just too much leeway for the manufacturer to screw up and you're not even getting any fitting session done, during which you can ask for adjustments. What you're getting is an approximation (or a best guess) of your actual body shape by a random chinese factory dude using just a bunch of measurements.

If you want a custom suit, invest in a local made-to-measure tailor. They're not really that expensive anymore and with one or two fittings you will have a great suit that looks very good on you. This will definitely get some attention by the savvy dudes and, hopefully, the horny chicks. After a few years toying around with made-to-measure, there is still bespoke as the ultimate goal for every gentleman.

Shirts on the other hand are a different story. With a few weeks of experience, some brains and good measurements of your existing wardrobe (plus the adjustments you want or need), you can get pretty decent results depending on the company you're ordering from. As above with suits, you can always step up your game after a few years and get real shirts made at places like Turnbull & Asser. At least this is what I'm going to do within the year.
