If only because it would keep her in shape, that's a good enough reason. And girls that were athletic tend to want to maintain that longer - they take a certain pride in their bodies.

With all due respect, no, it isn't. I lived in the beach volleyball capital of the world. It was far far far from an oasis of femininity. That said, if you like statuesque blonde girls, it's pretty good. Pretty much any team sport is masculinizing, because competition is masculinizing. The most feminine girls don't naturally enjoy sports, unless it has an element of the theatrical.

Better options are pursuits that are solitary or 'showy.' In the latter category, I'd put dancing and some gymnastics. In the former, I'd put things like rock climbing, weight lifting, running. The solitary ones might or might not bulk a girl up, but they wouldn't have the corrosive mental effect that team sports would. I haven't studied it, but they seem to have the same effect that any hard hobby would, like playing the violin.

There is also indoor volleyball. In all my years in school, it's the sport that more girls were okay playing than any other. I don't mean that in practice that the sport is soft, but for some reason feminine girls chose it over many others. Even as an adult, there are corporate volleyball leagues that women like playing in. It's also one of the sports for women that doesn't carry stigma - namely, you won't be assumed a dyke for playing it.

Yeah tennis and volleyball are good as well. I think a little competition is fine as long as it doesn't involve physical contact, beating up each other definitely isn't feminine. The theoretical question was about our daughters. You should think about that a little differently that about some fictional perfect docile feminine woman. I would hope you would want the best for her. A certain level of competition would be healthy for anybody, remember she would have to navigate a world full of masculine bitches and all kinds of assholes.

Womens national team sues

[quote]

The pay disparities exist even though the U.S. women have been successful not only on the field, but also at the ticket booth and in terms of television ratings. The team’s 5-2 win over Japan in last year’s World Cup final was the second-most-watched soccer match in U.S. television history, with 25.4 million viewers. That’s also the largest television audience for a game involving a U.S. national team; the biggest audience for a U.S. men’s game was 18.2 million for a USA-Portugal World Cup match in 2014.
/quote]

The article also states that the women bring ing 51 mil compared to the men at 60 mil.

These articles tend to be biased so I'm skeptical of the numbers. I'm guessing they might only be talking about world cup revenue. Obviously, the largest ever game doesnt really matter, since no watches the women outside the world cup

I'm assuming we are missing something here. The men have to take in way more through FIFA, tv money and ad revenue on a regular basis. Not forgetting the money they will bring in with Copa America this year as well.

You nailed it ^. Just because an event is watched by loads of people doesn't mean there is money outside of those events. Who even watches women's soccer besides a world cup final? And even then nobody really cares.

Also, I believe men aren't paid for national team appearances. Anyone confirm?

Bambi,
Acutally professional players DO get some kind of bonus for appearances with the national team, both directly and indirectly. Directly in terms of bonus and indirectly, in terms of international exposure and thus raising their market value.

RE: What's Wrong with America: USA Women's Soccer Edition
Our women are the most masculine in the world, YAY!

This is kind of a complicated issue actually, not quite as straight forward as NBA = WNBA. The men's World Cup started like a hundred years ago, and has involvement from practically every country in the world at this point and is the single largest sporting event in every country in the world every 4 years. The women's world cup only started in 1991, and the US has been the most dominant national team in women's soccer since then, along with Germany & Japan and a few other countries that usually do well like Sweden, or Australia. But only a handful of countries even have women's soccer teams worldwide, vs virtually every nation having a men's team. SO the pool of potential viewers is much smaller worldwide for women's soccer than for men's soccer. Basically women's soccer does much better with viewers in the US than anywhere else in the world, largely because we are the best at it. So there is also a much smaller pool of money worldwide to finance it, because of so much less competition, therefore the prize money is also smaller.

A lot of this shit has to do with Title IX laws here also, artificially boosting our women's sports productivity
http://www.voanews.com/content/us-womens...56121.html

"In terms of the women's game, Goff and Quraishi agree that the United States has made a commitment toward the success of women's sports, including soccer, that goes far beyond what many other countries have done.

A centerpiece of that commitment is Title IX, the U.S. federal law passed more than 40 years ago that prohibits discrimination on the basis of gender in any federally funded education program. Title IX forced universities to invest in women's sports, and soccer benefited tremendously from funding created under the law, according to Quraishi.

"And I think what we see with the women is the U.S. was one of the first countries to really establish a strong tradition of women playing soccer and to put the programs in place," Quraishi said. "I think college soccer had a lot to do with it. We had a feeder system from the very beginning. [College] teams like North Carolina, UCLA have been providing talented players to the national team for decades now.""

So yeah, the American Women are much better compared to the Men at their success on the field, but that's only because of a more limited field of competitors, a head start in historical experience , and a disproportionate amount of investment comparatively.

If American Women wanted to be paid as much as Men, they need to not lobby the US Soccer federation to pay them more...they should be looking to grow the Women's game worldwide and expand it into more countries so they could grow their financial base. They would need to try and start more women's leagues (once again, after failing multiple times) locally and internationally and see if that could show any sustained and permanent growth over long periods like the Men's leagues internationally, and not just be a seasonal viewing experience as it is now.

RE: What's Wrong with America: USA Women's Soccer Edition
Here's a question to pose to people who believe the women's team is being discriminated against: How much money would these women be making if they were men, all else being equal?

Obviously they aren't good enough to play men's professional soccer, so the answer is whatever they'd make at some menial desk job, minus the rec soccer league fees they'd incur just to get out on an organized field.

I admire these women. They've worked hard and accomplished things most people couldn't dream of. A few of them are even pretty cute. But they need to learn the definition of the word "discrimination" and recognize how lucky they are, because their vaginas are the only thing enabling them to earn a single penny off of their soccer ability.

Should be proportional to the revenue they make. If the make more then men, pay them more, if they don't then pay them less.

It is a rare case where the women might have a case to make. USA women team is bringing in cash money and they get a bump due to the fact the Men cost more to keep on the team. You get paid for international play, this isn't a charity thing here. They don't pay the men close to what they make in Europe/MLS/Pro. but it is good pocket and play money. The women will cost less and thus have lower expenses that boost their revenues.

Overall women's soccer brings in a dusty penny versus men's soccer but in the USA as in the case in Canada the women do in fact have a case that they bring in bank.

For many of these women they will make more off team USA then whatever bush league they play in in front of seniors and their cousins in the stands.

Where broads truly earn their dues I have no problem with them getting their cake. I am not going to accuse these women as working any less hard the the men, for both their respected sides they are top quality, so pay them what they are worth.

Let women who have earned that cash get it as it exposes the women who loft and coast off ".77cents" bullshit to get exposed.

Equal pay for equal work, regardless of race/gender/religion/whatever--if they bring in more money than the men, they should get more, period. If they bring in less, they get less.

Show me the numbers.

RE: What's Wrong with America: USA Women's Soccer Edition
I almost spit out a mouthful of sandwich when this came on the deli's TV other day at lunch break, and really think the topic deserves its own thread but will continue here. It's foolish to compare numbers when the teams aren't even in the same league. Just because both are involved in the same occupation doesn't mean they're doing the same "work". An employee in San Francisco is going to be making much less than an employee in Mississippi, doesn't mean they're being discriminated against.

This pay scale is exactly what these women, like most women, requested - more job security and benefits, less risk-based reward. This is one of the fundamental reasons for the national earnings gap in the first place. From - http://www.breitbart.com/sports/2016/04/...ns-claims/

Quote:“It quite frankly seems odd, from a legal perspective, that the players are complaining about a compensation system that they insisted upon, including the very economic terms they’re now complaining about,” Sauer said in a statement. “This is a model of compensation structure that the Players’ Association negotiated specifically for in prior negotiations.”

The lawyer went on to point out, “The Players’ Association asked for and received a structure of guaranteed salary and benefits, rather than pursue their compensation on a pay-to-play basis like the men. That whole process involves tradeoffs.”

Sauer also said there are certain benefits and types of compensation that the female players get that the male players don’t get including certain types of severance pay if they are cut and insurance and injury benefits.

Further, federation spokesman Neil Buethe insisted the numbers the women cited in their lawsuit are incorrect.

“During the last four years, the men’s national team revenues have been significantly higher than the women’s national team’s,” the spokesman said. “The numbers provided in the complaint are at times inaccurate, misleading or even both.”

Furthermore, soccer's main audience is outside the US and that's where the sponsors and dollars come from. Compared to men's and women's prize purses, the US women's team actually took home nearly double the prize money when they won the Cup vs the winning men's team. From - http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/20...l-pay.html

Quote:Friday’s festivities won’t make upset fans forget that the women’s team took home $2 million for their momentous victory, less than a quarter of the $9 million that the U.S. men’s and other teams were awarded last year after losing in the first round of the men’s World Cup. (The Germans, meanwhile, took home $35 million for the championship.)

But the total prize pool for the men’s tournament was $576 million—40 times the $15 million prize pool for the women’s games.

The Women’s World Cup generated $17 million in sponsor revenue compared to the $529 million revenue pile for last year’s (men’s) World Cup tournament.
But if you do the math, the U.S. women’s team pocketed more of that revenue—roughly 11 percent—than the 6.6 percent given to the Germans.

Quote:Sunday night’s women’s final saw a record viewership: 25.4 million viewers tuned in to Fox, making it the most-watched soccer game in U.S. history.
...
But they weren’t even in the same ballpark as the men’s tournament, which drew in a global average of 188.4 million TV viewers per game.

Quote:There’s been understandable outrage about U.S. women’s soccer players’ meager salaries, with emphasis on the women’s minimum salary of $6,842 compared to the male players’ new $60,000 minimum, up from last season’s $36,500 minimum.

But the women’s salaries would jump considerably if more people were paying to watch women’s sports—and if more people attended the games, and sponsorships sold well.

Coates said that the stars of the U.S. women’s team make considerably more money from endorsement deals than the stars of the U.S. men’s team. And they should, given how much better the women’s team is and how much better-known their players are.

Also bear in mind when the mainstream news talks about annual earnings that the World Cup takes place once every four years, and Men's and Women's WC take place in different years, so when they tell us that the women's team outearned the men's team in a certain year you can be certain they're using data from a year when the women's WC took place and the men's didn't.

^ Very good read. Thanks for that information. I stand corrected in trying to make a case for the women. Assumptions via performance and branding I did believe they had a shot. Looking into it now deeper and the familiar face of "benefits" creeping up it is no surprise they make less make "less". They dont make less though since they take home a larger slice of thier WCs pie.

You may approach similar pay in the US but in Europe, Africa and South America they will laugh you out of the stadium and blare a horn in your face.

Womens sports are boring unless its a showcase of their bodies and football even moreso. Half of the English football team is bi or full-on lesbian and whilst they played well in their own tournament they would get annihilated by a high school team and that is not something which gets men, who are the primary revenue generators of sport, to watch them.

The Daily Show weighs in on the pay gap issue with a segment that's aggressively stupid even by their standards:

http://www.sportsgrid.com/soccer/daily-s...mens-team/

The most absurd quote comes just after midway through the video:

Quote:And you know what makes this pay disparity even worse, or even more unfair, is the fact that the U.S. men's soccer team are nowhere near as good as the women. Like they're a fine time, but American women dominate the sport.

My high school basketball team dominated our division, while the New York Knicks have a losing record. Therefore, the New York Knicks are nowhere near as good as my high school team. I don't understand why their players make so much more money.

I used to like the USWNST until I realized that it was a negative role model for girls. Many of the stars are raging 3rd wave type gay activists and poor role models.

Also, the US women's team tends to overwhelm other teams through shear physicality. US star Abby Wombach is 6" 180lb, she scores most of her goals by shoving around smaller feminine defenders.

Kaepernick’s protest first came to prominence last week, and has sparked debate across America. His latest refusal to stand for the Star-Spangled Banner came on Thursday when his team, the San Francisco 49ers, played the San Diego Chargers. He was joined by his team-mate Eric Reid.

On Sunday, Rapinoe said her gesture was a nod towards Kaepernick. “It was very intentional,” Rapinoe told American Soccer Now after the game. “It was a little nod to Kaepernick and everything that he’s standing for right now. I think it’s actually pretty disgusting the way he was treated and the way that a lot of the media has covered it and made it about something that it absolutely isn’t. We need to have a more thoughtful, two-sided conversation about racial issues in this country.

“Being a gay American, I know what it means to look at the flag and not have it protect all of your liberties. It was something small that I could do and something that I plan to keep doing in the future and hopefully spark some meaningful conversation around it. It’s important to have white people stand in support of people of color on this. We don’t need to be the leading voice, of course, but standing in support of them is something that’s really powerful.”

Rapinoe is one of USA’s most talented players, and helped her team to gold at the 2012 Olympics as well as victory at the 2015 World Cup. She has long been known to speak her mind and is an ambassador for Athlete Ally, a charity that combats homophobia in sports.

Kaepernick has received criticism and support for his protest with some saying it is disrespectful to the military, with others insisting his stand represents the freedom of Americans to express themselves. On Thursday, the quarterback pledged to donate $1m to community projects as part of his drive towards equality.

RE: What's Wrong with America: USA Women's Soccer Edition
The pic of her kneeling with mass empty stands in the background serves as a subtle reminder:

Absolutely No One cares about female sports and female athletes. No one would have even heard about this if not for the journalist satisfying their equalist quota by covering it.
