RE: Is Drake The Softest Rapper of All Time?
Now my views on Drake are mixed. But overall he's the last person you'd listen when you want to feel badass.

Has anyone heard of Pusha T? His disses towards Drake and Young Money are on point. I'd recommend anti-Drakes to hear Exodus 23:1 whenever you get annoyed by Drake.

Oh and G can you empty your PM box? I need to ask you a question about something you mentioned earlier on the forum.

RE: Is Drake The Softest Rapper of All Time?
This is the best you can do G?

You should know Drake's game is all part of the industry.
Every one of the rappers in the young money group knows they're soft...
They don't need to act hard.
In a way..it sounds like you're hatin on his hustle...and if it comes down to principle..he isn't ruining any men that won't already be ruined.
The rest of of that know the game could care less.

Musicians are the same as politicians
They they say what people wanna here

Quote:Got these boppers goin' crazy

Nigga, I'm the man, I sent your girl message
Said I see you when I can
She send me one back but I ain't never read it
'Cause pussies only pussy and I get it when I need it

Personally, as a critic..I hated Drake for a while too, but you have to respect his hustle
He's made millions telling the story of a man that hasn't fully swallowed his red pill.
Sometimes he wants to wine an dine a bitch..sometimes he want's to lay his pimp hand down.
At the end of the day,his heart gets broke and the cycle repeats after the check is deposited into his bank account.

Its not like this story hasnt been told for decades

You could say Roger was beta.
But he left behind 11(known) kids[/quote]

As my brother said, Drake is proof of how manufactured rap is these days. He's the Britney Spears of Hip Hop/R&B.

RE: Is Drake The Softest Rapper of All Time?
Kind of shocked Drake is getting such a pass on here.

Especially with all the tough guy Alpha talk on here day in, day out.

Let me put these lyrics up for you guys again, because it seemed like you missed them:

Lyrics:[Verse 1: Drake]
Hey girl,
Do you want my number?
That way you can call me
Everytime I come into town
And then I will drive up to your house
And take you out to dinner
I don't expect nothing at all

Hell, I thought Drake would be the most hated person ever on this forum.

Where is consistency?

For real. Drake is a corny ass dude. Period.

Also what i really dislike about him is that on some interviews he wants to act all hard but anybody can see that he is straight faking it, even most of RNB singers are harder than he is. I never paid attention to his lyrics, now i cant stand him even more.

Drake tries to be hard and soft at the same time. It comes across as acting, that you don't know where his true beliefs lie. I think his tunes can be enjoyed from an entertainment perspective, not much else.

Actually it's good to use Drake's tunes to find out if you're being beta or not. If you identify with his lyrics, then you may have beta tendencies. When I was in Poland, the most beta period of my adult life, I was blasting his stuff every day. But now not so much.

GManifesto- the following is for you:

And I think I text her and told her I made it
And that’s when she text me and told me she prayed it
And that’s when I text her and told her I love it
Then right after texting I told her I’m faded

Haha it's from his song "Hell Yeah Fucking Right"

This is it. He goes back and forth between player and herb. The player songs are fine, clever lyrics and good beats. When he switches to that slow introspective shit, though, it's time to skip to the next track.

Actually, if you listen to the lyrics on the herb songs, it's a pretty good tutorial on how not to act towards women. This dude has songs where he's waxing romantic about chicks knew for a week last year. If Drake keeps going down this trajectory, his next album is just going to be a collection of messages that he's left on different chicks' voice mail set to music.

Hey Tina, it's Drake. Are you there?
Will you pick up, Tina? I miss youuuu

RE: Is Drake The Softest Rapper of All Time?
Softest rapper of all time is Childish Gambino.
He's basically a lame knock off of early 2000's Kanye West, mixed with elements of Drake's most whiny overly emotional song thrown in for good measure.
There's actually a song of his where he apparently tries to commit suicide (via eating too much Tylenol) because he got dumped. Super Beta.

Also, are socially conscious rappers like Kendrick Lamar and Lupe Fiasco alpha or beta?

I started playing the tune in the original post, but then realised that maybe my neighbours would hear it, so I switched it off.

From what I heard, that wasn't really rap. It was r'n'b auto-tune singing, which'll devastate your 'street cred' if you listen to it whilst being male.

RE: Is Drake The Softest Rapper of All Time?
Yea Drake isn't "Toronto' and thus does not get much respect over here since he was locked away in Forrest hill which is about the same as Bel Air in LA.

The only difference with Drake is that he was self-financed. He was indeeded "picked" to blow up on the main stream but it was preety hard to miss a kat whom was moving tens of thousands of singles (In Canada, which is a lot for a CSN artist sadly) and shit with no record deal. Canadian labels would not sign him and he was the first hip-hop act in Canada NOT to use the almost mandatory grant to shoot a video. He shot this video and bankrolled it all himself (supposedly it costs 100K +):

Plus he did "pay his dues" he battled and did entered comps like most other kats its just he was that good. He basically hedged himself like a bank fund that he would make all the cash back he pumped into himself and he did.

Hes corny but I don't hate on his hustle since he did "create himself". Remember that kats bought into Drake's brand - it was not created in some media boardroom or shaped by others like most artists. He knew what would sell and simp ass rap to bitches is what he went with.

Can you confirm that?

When he was "battling" was he spitting off his blackberry?

RE: Is Drake The Softest Rapper of All Time?
Yea man my friends good hommie and loose friend of mine is literally Toronto hip-hop ambassador (mindbender). He's a writer and is literally at evrey show, battle, comp. you name it. He even was given a shoutout when Drake when he was interviewed:

The issue with Drake is that he is in a position of most kats that would of taken 10 years to get to. He is a pop star whom was self made, versus some young kat whom was made in a NYC boardroom. He has no street cred but he did grind his way in the underground like any other struggling rapper. he just had more resources and exposure to work with from his acting gigs. But when he was comming up he was doing small shows and linking wit kats on myspace just like any other. In the interview he alluded to Little Brother and 9th and prior to him blowing up he collab with a lot of justice league kats and underground dudes in Europe like Hazel and Onra.

Drake is basically just a hip-hop nerd with a ton of money he could use to fund into himself. Degrassi paid his Jimmy ass well and he used his funds accordingly. He didn't take any short cuts though things just happened for him really quickly.

G, you are right but let's just face it. Drake is a modern day equivalent of Mase (a la Harlem World). I wash my hands off these cats. RnB singers all the way. Remember Drake is an actor. He's supposed to appeal to kids. Do you fault the man who dons the Mickey Mouse outfit in Orlando to make the children giggle?
I feel your disgust though..

How do you explain the blackberry freestyle?

This was Canada and this was like 2005/2006. hell most CDN rappers don't even have copies of some of the best shit thats how dire the music infrastruture is here. Dilla? His last show here there is no video evdeince of it other than a grainy 5 min video. The technology was not as widespread then as you think.

Plus Why would kats record some corny hip-hop nerd from Forrest Hill?

Drake is a studio rapper he is self made and paid his dues doing shows and comps but the man is a writer and that's wear his true skill lies.

Its hard to explain the CDN scene versus America. In Canada the scene is so small it make little sense to devote so much energy to battles when finished material and pushing copies to get shows was the name of the game. Even in Toronto the scene is small and everybody knows each other, none of the OG's hate on Drake if he took any shortcuts they would be vocal in showing their distaste.

And to me a BB makes no difference then a dude rolling up with pre-writtens already on lock in his mind. Kats stop busting frees on Flex in like 99. Drake started the BB trend then after that evreybody started using them to write and spit in the booth.

Moma brings up a good point as Drake is pretty much the modern Mase. You know what your getting here and your either a fan or not. Mase never hide the fact he was a cornballl. He milked his cornyness into alot of money.

Drake is just the another version of Childish Gambino. Both of these kats can create masterpieces when they are locked in a studio but are shytt live. Hip-hop nerds turn into 'artists' more-so than 'rappers' we grew up knowing.

out of curiousity, how do you guys feel about Kanye?

i know he is considered "pop" nowadays, but every album he's made (excluding watch the throne) have been fucking gold; pure artistic genius imo. wonder how all of the older heads here feel about him.

RE: Is Drake The Softest Rapper of All Time?

drake can spit. point blank period. like he said 'they make fun of the clothes... but never the flow tho...they know i run that'

ultimately. he came into the game with his own style, swag, sound (40 production), came into the game with a mixtape, had the biggest buzz, co-signs from jay-z, lil wayne, kanye directing his video.

he's got his own lane. he's never been out here pretending to be a gangster or a thug. he's just doing him. a kid from toronto trying to make it. and fuck he's doing it.

some of those rnb songs i can't stand. that track he did with the dream sounds like two chipmunks giving eachother a body slide.

beyond that tho. i mean he gets it in. it's not the 90s anymore hiphop has evolved. if you want that 90s get with action bronson the albanian chef who completely took ghostface's rhyming style.
