I came across this article that, while giving a sad outlook on the US, proves that there might be some hope across the border in Vancouver.

Here is the article.

This grad student wants Vancouverites to accept her in her obesity. She is tired of feeling shame for her looks, having to import her clothes from the USA, and being used as the brunt of seduction pranks.

This came across to me as her not so much wanting acceptance, but more her wanting to be invisible. If you don't want to fuck me, at least don't ridicule me. She's actually afraid of acceptance, so she's caught in form of pergatory. But you're right - at no point does she appear motivated to try to lose some weight.

Interesting, because Vancouver is hardly slender by international standards (though it is by American). If you look at the Stanley Cup Riot pictures, there are plenty of fatties and uggos. Though maybe not quite as bad as her.

beta_plus: a lot of those fatties were probably from surrey/the lower mainland. the further outside of Vancouver you get the fatter and more 'white trash' the girls/guys get. My hometown (about an hour away) is close to the american border and could easily pass for an american city in terms of fatness. All of the girls have attitudes, dress trashy, are chubby to obese and the dudes they are with are usually trashy wearing ed hardy/affliction.

Vancouver on the other hand is way more slim, but of course the girls aren't very attractive or feminine (for the most part). You do see some fatties, but they are usually either tourists or older women.

I really don't understand this article. Shes blaming everyone for making her feel bad about being fat, how she has to go out of her way to get clothes that fit. She blames every one else but herself for her lack of self worth. All she has to do is eat less and exercise and most of her problems will go away. I cant stand people who complain about such easily solvable problems.

Wow, attempting to change the minds of millions of people (Vancouver metro area is bigger than 500K) rather than losing weight. Such a strong and independent woman! Well, not that strong because she's unwilling to lose weight and can't seem to resist cupcakes.

How much of Vancouver slenderness is driven by Asian immigrants? I was only there for a day back in 2004. It was obviously thinner than the US, but the white chicks still seemed fat by then European standards. I will admit my sample size and time there was too short to really make a fair judgement.

Bravo Vancouver!!! We need to import whatever Vancouverites are doing into the States. This fat acceptance BS is insane... As for her problem, solution is simple: Lose the weight finally! But oh no, she has a 'medical condition' preventing it, like 60% of Americans. Interesting that in Japan or France this condition is about 6 times less prevalent...

Fat asian chicks are definitely far and few between, even the older/middle aged ones remain slim so I guess that has something to do with it. In terms of general slimness gay dudes probably have an effect too. The rest of the males are of the species herbius maximus or hipsters. Vancouver also has a huge feminist population, they (more often than not) are the ones who are overweight, but you hardly see them out. Levels of fatness is increasing though.

flyfreshandyoung: I bet the only dudes fatty-shaming are the bros who roll to a club 10 deep and buy every girl there drinks, I could be wrong, but from what I've seen that is the extent of game here. The rest of the dudes just get shitfaced and try to dance with the girls their friends brought there if anything at all.

I have and idea that could be more effective than fat shaming - the 'mistaken for pregnant' method. To be most effective you need to appear to be genuinely convinced that the girl in question is indeed pregnant.

Examples:

- Offer a seat to a fat girl on a bus. When she thanks you reply with something like "of course, I know how dangerous it could be for expecting women to be standing"
- In a store, ask about recommendation for a stretchmarks cream for your pregnant wife
- etc....

For best effect you have to seem genuinely baffled and apologize incessantly. Keeping a straight face is absolute necessity. The point is to make her believe that you genuinely mistaken her for pregnant, which would get her thinking and hopefully motivate to action.

So everybody do your civic duty and do 5 fat girl approaches today!
