RE: "Is it us, or is it DC?" Two DC reporters head to Alaska to find romance
Quote:The fishermen descend almost before we even make it through the door of the rattletrap bar. They beg us for a game of pool, conversation, anything. The bearded guys hunched over their beers rivet their eyes on us. There’s a guitarist at the open mike who, as soon as he spots Annie, stops strumming and says, “I’m dedicating this song to you.”
Quote:Earlier that month, we — two harried Washington Post reporters — had been sitting in the newsroom cafeteria with a colleague, lamenting the state of our love lives. One of us was recovering from an on-again, off-again relationship that had finally finished its death spiral; the other was nursing a broken heart and in the meantime had taken up with a thrice-divorced playboy nicknamed Gator.
Winter had found us single again, and we were feeling as if we had lost our mojo. Never mind that we each had our own issues: too much wanderlust, a habit of falling in love with the wrong men. We launched into a debate familiar to single women over 22 in the greater Washington area: Is it us? Or is it D.C.?
This is what lands a playboy in Washington?
I have to post this twice because the irony is just too much
Hahahahahaha. You guys have it as bad as we do.
This though sounds like girl power porn
Quote:“They’re more genuine, earnest, real, down-to-earth,” says Libby Casey, a Washington journalist in her 30s who spent 10 years in Fairbanks. “In Alaska, men value women differently: If you can wield a chain saw, if you can buck wood, if you can catch a fish. A guy’s not going to date you because you look cute; a guy’s going to date you because you have skills.”
WAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHHHAH
No, they are just so desperate I think that they will fuck anything.

OK, those of us not in DC need some clarification.
“If you’re out at a bar and a party, it seems like it’s two-thirds women to one-third men,” says Katie Gill, who spent two years blogging about dating life in the nation’s capital. “People are always asking me: Where do you go to meet men?”
To me, the ratio of single men to women in Washington is a bummer. I often end up at parties with large crowds of single women, married couples and gay men. One recent night at Lincoln, the supposedly hip new restaurant near our office, the bar was crammed with chicks from end to end.
This is in stark contrast to Roosh's red dot/blue dot photos of DC cockfests. So which is right? Or is it an issue of venues - bars vs private parties and trendy restaurants?

Well 80% of the men are invisible to them and their long laundry lists dude
Alaska is somewhere I have always wanted to go though. Not a great place for pussy if that Hutt is being serenaded, (maybe they thought it was a whale and they were trying to lure her in so that they could harpoon her?) but I did always wanted to go on a trip there to fish and hunt.

And all the waxing, styling and primping Washington women do? Not necessary in the 49th state.
“I won hairy-leg contests in Alaska, and guys thought it was awesome,” Casey says.
Hamster translation: I'm already ugly, past my prime, and can allow my looks to turn to complete shit because the men up here are so desperate and in need of a warm body. They'll put up with anything. But in the end, I won't find love because these losers just aren't up to my standards.

I think we are onto something here! A purely physical comparison is unfair, because men seek beauty, while women seek alpha. By comparison, smart, sassy, accomplished (and ugly) D.C. women date underachieving men. Maybe the situation is bad on both sides. D.C. has career-oriented women who do not prioritize looks or femininity, and cubicle-nerd men in low-paying government jobs.
The Washington Post article laments:
“He Phones the Office During Dinner. . . . He’ll Tell You Everything About the Toxic-Waste Bill. . . . He Likes to Get It Over With in Time for Meet the Press.”
So where were the manly men [with] facial hair [and] calloused hands ... who could kill dinner and ... then have his woman for dessert?
[They don't need] all the waxing, styling and primping Washington women do.
Are D.C. women demanding a contradictory combination of ruggedness in a high-paying D.C. office job? Or do good D.C. men lack sexual enthusiasm for fat, slovenly D.C. women? Or both?
Why are D.C. women so picky and unfeminine? Why is there a scarcity of D.C. men with alpha and game?

I know where Lincoln is. I walk by it on my home from work almost every day. And it is often full of women. This is at 7:00pm on a weeknight, though, not exactly prime poosy-slaying time. Chicks in DC are rarely serious about meeting men. They're only serious about complaining that there are no men. Truth is, there are a lot of sexual camels in DC.
It's not that DC women are all holding out for Mr. Super Alpha, it's that many of them just don't care that much about dick. They're too busy sublimating all that energy into happy hours and brunches at trendy restaurants and "saving the world" at their useless jobs. They get all the male attention they need from beta orbiters and the occasional fling with some dude from kickball.

She hasn't complained in a while.
Whenever a girl says that she can't find good men or says, "where are all the good men?" it basically means that she's been on a handful of dates with some uninteresting, beta-ass dudes. Her fantasy of a rich model who has a fancy executive job (with the corresponding salary) on the one hand, but chops down trees and throws discus in his spare time, hasn't interrupted her day randomly and swept her off her feet yet. Chicks want to find a good man with the slightest of effort--just for showing up.
This is a basic failure to understand just how much more work we do to find so-called "good girls." Bitches want shit handed to them, including the best men.
Your sister was drinking the Kool-Aid being dispensed by other girls (especially of the DC variety). I'm glad you stomped that down. You did her a huge favor in the long run.
I see it a little differently. Bitches complain about there being 'no good men' because it's a clarion call for sympathy and pity. Standard fare attention whoring. The content of her speech is irrelevant, as long as it's effective in garnering attention.
These girls have already decided they won't settle for a man who would have them, so *they* for a mass media attention whoring pity party.
The silver lining is that if you ever hear a girl saying "All the good men are taken" or "There are no good men left," you immediately know she's not dating material whatsoever. In my experience, girls worth keeping around don't complain like that, and are rarely single for long stretches.
I'm sure hoes who fuck cool dudes say it too. Everyone likes to think they have it bad, and attention whores will aggressively court the sympathy of anyone who will listen.

RE: "Is it us, or is it DC?" Two DC reporters head to Alaska to find romance
I think that people are overstating the role of hypergamy in a place like DC. I don't observe women in DC holding out for the cream of the crop. Hypergamy is much worse in NY and probably in places like LA or Miami. When DC girls do get into relationships, it's usually with average herbs. You want do well with women in DC, just be a tall, goofy white dude who wears polo shirts and cargo shorts.
What drives DC's crappy dating market is the number of woman who are just not out there. Think about it, there's basically three reasons why women want to be with men: 1) they want dick, 2) they want affirmation, 3) they want companionship.
Now, think about the type of people who come to DC. The typical DC girl probably doesn't have a high sex drive to begin with. Even the chicks I know here who do love sex, are capable of going months without it if nothing worthwhile comes their way. Two, these chicks have been told that they're special since one of daddy's swimmers one the race through mommy's cervix. They were over-achieving high school kids who became over-achieving college kids who then moved to DC to "save the world." It's not so much that they they're not cool; it's that cool barely exists anymore. Cool has been replaced with quirky and ironic. That's why SWPL chicks have no idea how to flirt, but instead try to impress you with their sarcasm and debating skills. If they want male affirmation, they log on to Facebook or OKC or reject "creepy" dudes at happy hour.
As for companionship, well, it's like the women in that article. they spend all their time with other women, couples and gay dudes. In other places, women think of being single as sitting home alone on the couch and that motivates them to get out and meet men. In DC, there are so many goofy social outlets that girls never have to resort to that. You know what I've rarely ever seen in DC? A woman out having a drink by herself on a week night. She's too busy with kickball or book club or trapeze lessons or happy hours.
Women complaining about how they can't find men are delusional attention whores. The overwhelming majority of men will shower a women with attention at the drop of a dime. If a women can't "find" a man, it's cause she's cause she either has clinically certifiable mental issues or she isn't really looking.

RE: "Is it us, or is it DC?" Two DC reporters head to Alaska to find romance
I grew up in Alaska and spent some of the best years of my life up there. I still go back regularly. Here's the real story; Anchorage, the largest "city", is basically blue-collar Amerikana. There are plenty of doable young women - and the entitlement attitude of places like DC is unheard of. I fucked loads of Alaskan ladies during my young-dumb years and it was almost epic in the go-go years of the 80's with the new oil money. Nothing like fresh, young, uneducated white trash for a fuck-rampage. Just get them young before they succumb to the gourmet delights of Walmart and McDonalds. As for the adult population; think fat and generally unattractive people - with a ghostly white pallor.
These ghastly skanks from our nations capitol went off the reservation (i.e. left Anchorage) so fat-bearded alcoholics are about it for human companionship once one leaves the city limits.
Bottom line; the place is spectacular, the fishing incredible, hunting same, mountains breathtaking and heli-skiing the best in the world. The winters are also long, dark, cold and fucking depressing.
Still, I'd live in Alaska long before I'd live in DC. I was based there for a while and despise the place.
What would have made for a good article would have been Sarah Palin pulling a train with the aforementioned fat-bearded-alcoholics..........
