OK, deal is in August I'm going to Miami to visit a friend before he has a baby in October and disappears off the face of the map. Taking a redeye from LA so I end up getting there at 6am on a Friday and staying the weekend.

Any tips on what to do, I'm supposed to crash at his place right which are the high rise condos on the bay (never been to Miami)...kind of early to check into a hotel, may not have rooms that early for check in????

what should i do? just drop off my bags at a hotel bellhop after getting some breakfast then hang on the beach until later in the day? best area to daygame at ( i guess the beach?). I wanted to check out the Fountainebleu pool, but do you have to be a guest?

Flew in on that same exact flight on my way to Colombia a few months ago. Had the day to kill. There's a perfect little diner to acclimate/chill and get some grub as the sun comes up. Can't think of it right now, but it's right there on the main drag opposite the water. Real Latin/Miami vibe. South American wait staff etc. I'll check my credit card statement. Perfect for what you're looking for, because I was balls tired from that flight, and they must have refilled my coffee 4x as I was planning my day out. Good people watching too, and you're right in the action.

thanks. exactly the vibe I was looking for. hear its like a foreign country, so if i like, i'll definitely return frequently. hopefully i can sleep on the flight...all out of ambien right now..that stuff is great for redeyes...but even then, its a 5-6 hour flight i guess and it usually takes me an hour to sleep on a plane even with pills.

wish there was a place I could just take a 2-3 hour nap to recharge, maybe shower, then hit the beach. i guess i could sleep on the beach though but then i'll cook under the (hopefully great blistering) sun. maybe i could find a (legit) massage place and just fall asleep while they're rubbing me down or something.

Just so you know, August in Miami is probably the worst month to go there.

Push you trip to FEB to get the best of Miami.

For whatever reason, it seems like everyone from CA goes to Miami in August or summer.

This has been on this forum and I have noticed in real life.

And then they come back and say "Miami is too hot, CA is better".

And they don't even realize that they threw up an airball.

Avoid Miami in summer.

i'll probably go back another month, but its mainly to see my friend before he has his baby. I wasn't planning on going until March or something but I just found out about the baby last month so wanted to get a trip in. I'll take that into account before i pass judgement on Miami for sure though.
