Gee, I didn't watch the whole thing, fell asleep. But anyone notice the guy was miserable which rubs off onto others and that was actually the point?

The addiction is more mechanical than anything else.

The guy just likes sex (who doesnt) and is "shamed" because he's in his thirties, is not married, has his own upscale apartment and has sex whenever he wants. He uses seduction to get legit girls, and also hookers when he has an impulse. Nothing wrong with that. Another display that Hollywood is still run by cunts and beta males.

It was directed by Steve McQueen, dude is alpha. He was in bullit, and the great escape, a huge 50s - 60s iconic movie star often played a rogue maverick of some sort.

The movie was good, it looked good had tasteful cinematography and didn't serve me an obvious plot like hollywood movies would.

That's the WRONG Steve McQueen. Steve McQueen the actor died in 1980. This is the director of "Shame."

American Beauty is a piece of shit movie written by two faggots. There's no real liberation in the movie, and it's incredibly mean-spirited, with a nasty gay agenda (the straight macho guy ends up being a repressed gay, etc.); Kevin Spacey (also a fag) has a very depressing kind of liberation, it's fake.

You are great at name calling. Fuck you and present a real argument. Disagree with me but don't show how stupid you are by shitting words. Faggot.

RE: The movie 'SHAME'
I haven't seen Shame but, as someone who has seen hundreds of films (one of my best friends is a real cinephile), I already know why Shame is so controversial.

I also know why Shame sucks.

Here's why.

Shame presents a character that is supposed to resemble the modern man, or presents a character that has something very wrong with him.

Which is it? Is the main character in Shame broken? If so, how can anyone relate to him? It's just a story about a freak. Big deal, shitty movie.

Yet if the character is supposed to be symbolic of men in the real world, then it's just a caricature and lacks substance. Real men do not need to fuck so much they go out to gay clubs. No one can relate to this guy. So if the movie is trying to be realistic, then the movie also fails.

Shame sucks, and so many men on this board find it a shitty movie, because the director did not put down a clear enough direction over what he wanted to do with the main character.

Is the main character fucked in the head? Or is he a "victim" of our sex-obsessed culture? It's left ambiguous in order to appear "deep" but the end result is a poorly made film where the director tries to make up for the lack of a plotline by leaving the main charecter as mysterious as possible, like in an anime film.

Shit film, will never watch.

Quote:We naturally want to know why these people are subjecting themselves to the sorts of sufferings they do, but Mr McQueen supplies only superficial explanations or no explanations at all, lest these should interfere with the purity of the emotional experience he wants to show us. In doing this, he all but strips his characters of their humanity, making them vessels of animal feeling in a way that is a kind of explanation of its own. These are people in flight from their humanity. If there were a reason for that flight, they would presumably have failed at it.

Gay clubs? WTF? I thought it was just about a player with remorse.

I don't know any straight guys that turn gay because they horny. What logic is this?

Girls are more prone to do that kind of thing. Maybe they just imposing a female character on a male.

I wrote a book on Game, The Cad Companion Vol.1 is 104,930 words long and covers over 220 topics to help motivate and inspire men to improve their options with women. Click here to get it now!

SPOILER ALERT

It was weird. His slut sister caught him jerking off. Had a big fight with his sister calling her worthless etc...He ran out of the house went to a bar, hit on a chick, fingered her pussy and got beat up by her boyfriend. He went across the street to a gay club, got his meat smoked (wtf). Then he went to a hotel and fucked 2 hookers. When he went back home his sister had attempted suicide and was laying in a pool of her own blood.

RE: The movie 'SHAME'
I haven't seen it in a while but let me try...The way that I saw it was that he needed to feel shame in order to get off at all. That's why he couldn't fuck the girl he actually liked as a person. I also suspect he was made to have sex with his sister as a child or something weird like that. That's why he got so mad when she interrupted him masturbating, because it was like he was finishing while thinking about her. I think they may have even been in love at some point in their lives, which would explain how comfortable he was talking to her while she was naked. It would also explain why she tried to kill herself so much.

Honestly, aside from the weird shit with his sisters and the gay shit I didn't see a problem with his swag. He was getting money, fucking bitches, staying in good shape and living what I consider to be a pretty solid alpha bachelor life.

RE: The movie 'SHAME'
Sex was affecting every other part of the main character's life in unhealthy ways. He was using it like a junkie uses dope, trying to fill a hole, but it didn't fill that void. There are actually quite a few posts on THIS forum with posters writing, "I'm successful with girls, but it's not enough...I'm still bored. What more can I do? How can I be more satisfied with my life?" Or how about after you fuck a girl and you ask yourself "is that all? all that work for this, and that's it?" Same deal.

It's not filling up the fucking void.

It was called shame cause he knew he had his obsession was negatively affecting his life and he couldn't find happiness. Just like a junkie is generally ashamed he needs his smack, but doesn't know any other way.

I don't understand the hate for this film. I saw it more as a modern and more serious American Psycho, or something related to Trainspotting. Well filmed, entertaining to watch, and makes one ask them self some tough questions on what they desire in life. Great acting by Fassbender.

It didn't feel preachy, or like it was making a statement, it just showed one man's obsessions. I would recommend.

However, I have major hatred for the teenage boy pixie carey mulligan. She is showing up everywhere.

Carey Mulligan looked better in this movie than she did in Wall Street 2 or Drive. Who do you hate more...Emma Stone or Carey Mulligan?

Is it just me or is Hollywood consistently casting uglier women in prominent roles?

I would say Emma Stone is a step above Mulligan, at least she has long hair.

I think it was a good movie. It's a movie about addicition. They could have picked anything (food, gambling, drugs, etc.) and the message still would have come across. In this case, they picked sex.

The scene at the start with him and the girl on the train stuck with me for some reason. It shows how even if a girl is locked down, in this case, engaged/married, she can easily be broken, even if all it takes are just a few glances. Says a lot about women in general I think.

You just presented an argument that could be used to dismiss any movie. Either a character is unrelatable, and bad, or a generalization, and bad. You haven't watched the movie and you're saying that you know why it sucks? It's pretty realistic, like Californication, in a way. The latest seasons of Duchovny's show are making him out to be pretty pathetic as well, but no less human or relatable as a dude that can get chicks. Not every negative portrayal of a womanizer is meant to dehumanize them.

RE: The movie 'SHAME'
I liked Shame. I don't think it was trying to criticize the average single 30s-something bachelor who likes to get laid. The whole point is that constant anonymous sex was this guy's only reason for existence. He's an orgasm addict. He needs to orgasm at least around 10 times a day. If this guy was just trolling the bars and bedding a new girl every weekend, it wouldn't be a big deal. But this dude was:

Jerking off at the work toilet stalls (that's fucking gross, with all the smells). We can also safely assume that he did this several times during working hours.

And then he went home to wack off to the webcam girl. How much does that cost him? Probably 50$ to $100 a month. That's around $1000 a year. I think I jerkoff a bit too much, but I haven't paid for porn in a years.

Bangs a lot of prostitutes.

Was unable to have any sort of emotional connection with ANYONE. Yes, as aforementioned, he couldn't connect with his cute coworker, but he also had NO FRIENDS.

This guy's sole pleasure in life was fucking. And even then, after the 4 second orgasm is over, he's miserable again.

He's basically the same as a strung out heroin addict.

Terrible, terrible movie. He is so addicted to orgasms that he goes to a gay club to get head, cant get hard with a cute girl that he likes (raw sex too) and fingers a girl at a bar right in front of her boyfriend? Ok! I would not be surprised if the director is gay..

RE: The movie 'SHAME'
What the hell was going on between him and his sister. He accidentally walks in on her in the shower and just talks to her, they are always touching and grabbing and she catches him jacking off!

The whole film was obviously done by someone who has no idea about being a bachelor or even the relationship that men and women have. The gay club was the final straw for me...it did not shock me like the director intended but made me laugh "This guy is such a pervert that he just needs a warm hole to stick his dick in". It does not work like that. I have not seen such a horrible movie that made me mad for wasting the 2 hours in a long time..

RE: The movie 'SHAME'
Strong bump.

Shame is a good movie. It is not a social commentary or a hit piece on bachelor life, it is a movie about addiction and trauma. It's very heavily suggested both he and the sister have some incest/abuse in their past. That's the 'shame' leading to behavior which causes shame.

Fassbender is trying to fill a void in his soul through his drug. It could just as easily have been heroin, but sex sells better.

This movie has been wildly misunderstood. It's not about sex, it's about toxic emotions and lack of self, due to emotional trauma. There's a psychological term for that and it's called Toxic Shame:

http://psychcentral.com/blog/archives/20...xic-shame/

"..However, when parents abuse, neglect or deprive their child of unconditional love and safety, this child views him- or herself as unworthy of love and protection. The shame-based child becomes the adult “human doing” who can never outrun his or her shame..."
