DC Comics' Green Lantern is now gay

One of DC Comics oldest heroes is super-coming out.
The original Green Lantern - a DC Comics mainstay for the past 70 years - will be revealed to be a gay man in next week's issue of "Earth 2."
Alan Scott - formerly a married father of two who first appeared in 1940 - tips readers off to his sexuality early on in the comic when he gives his boyfriend a welcome home kiss.
"He's very much the character he was. He's still the pinnacle of bravery and idealism. He's also gay," "Earth 2" writer James Robinson told The Post.
The Emerald Guardian's sexuality was rebooted along with the rest of his fictional universe as part of DC's "New 52" initiative aimed at rejuvenating their characters.
Robinson said he decided to make the change because making the character young again meant erasing Scott's gay superhero son out of existence.
"The only downside of his being young was we lose his son, Obsidian, who's gay. So I thought, 'Why not make Alan Scott gay?'" Robinson recalled. "That was the seed that started it."
He ran his idea by the bosses at DC, "who signed off on it without hesitation."

Comic book stories have always been larger than life. A fantasy of what men can be at the highest level. Something to motivate kids to achieve greatness. This is just motivating kids to achieve gayness.

Being gay's fine. In fact when I used to read comics heavily between ages 10-12 I do remember there being a few gay characters: Constantine, for example, was bisexual, and I think there was a guy in X-Men who was gay, there was a girl in Gen13 who was lesbian. However they were initially conceptualized as gay characters. This, however, is a case in which a beta comic book author is kowtowing to contemporary social conditioning and is just doing stupid shit for publicity.

They'd never make a gay villain, but characters like the Joker seem to be clearly beyond just heterosexual or are probably asexual.

It's interesting that they don't explore the darker side of a lot of these "super-powered" freaks. If the hulk were real, he'd probably be raping and killing everything in sight.

Captain America always seemed gay to me.

But seriously. Gay is just being thrown in everyone's face this last decade. They are pushing so damn hard to make gay into the new normal. Brokeback Mountain got nominated for all these academy awards, but I bet if the same exact story was involving heteros, it would've been a straight to DVD movie.

I think the OP's argument is just conservatism couched in "manosphere" language.

I respect his right to be pissed off about it. My opinion is that by making it a "manosphere" issue it becomes another "us vs them" argument, an argument I find conservatives love to have.

I think that they it really want to makes things equal, they should also have more gay characters that aren't aren't so nice.

I actually did a whole piece on this at Men's Politics.

I think they wanted to make Batman gay, but didn't do it because of the new movie coming out - ticket sales would tank.

I don't know if it was homosexuality in that men were sexually attracted to other men, or if it was simply a display of dominance by the more powerful men in society over average citizens. Married men in government were known to have young boys for sex, and adult slaves had to submit to the same. It was more about hierarchy than attraction. Kind of like in prison - it's a display of power and control over weaker men, who also become "property."

Personally I think it's just a marketing thing. Not to get super geek here (I grew up reading comic books so I know how this works)Earth - 2 is not the main world, but is reserved for characters from like 30's and 40's story lines. So this is kind of like a second rate title getting a gay protagonist (I think that's how it still works anyway, DC's been changing up a lot since I stopped reading comics). Also I doubt that the Lantern's gayness will be a huge story point in the long run (like I guarantee that it's a big deal for like the first six months and after that it will be pretty much ignored. Like how not every Superman or Batman story arc has their love interests playing a major role). To me this is just kind of a marketing move for DC, so that they can appeal to a new audience and maybe raise up sales via controversy.

1. The are the highest (by far) risk group for AIDS and
2. They do not/can not reproduce

The promotion of the "GAY" agenda is merely a slick undercover attempt at eugenics and population reduction. Except, its not being forced on people with violence, but by incepting people with the concept - so that they'll do it themselves.

This is the line that gets parroted by the gay activists so much that people have just accepted it without question. The more homosexuality is promoted and seen as "normal", the more people will want to experiment with it. I'm sure you know that in ancient Greece men viewed boys as the objects of sexual desire more than women. Were they all born gay? This same thing still goes on even some of the most conservative parts of the middle east even now. Quit buying into this lie that it only happens when people are born gay. The fact that it goes on so rampantly in prison is proof that homosexuality can be learned.

I also agree with the above poster that a gay comic hero is ridiculous. A gay man with his effeminate lisp and mannerisms is the anti-thesis of masculinity and alpha. So why are they trying to push this shit on kids as something normal? I expect gays to be all rah-rah about it, but it's disappointing to see so many heteros drinking the kool-aid.

Keep in mind that these guys have to keep churning out ideas. They run out of adversaries after a while, so the guy fights a bizarro version of himself. They run out of plots, so they make the guy black or gay.

I'm just wondering where all the Latino super heroes are. The Asians have all those anime characters, but where's Captain Latin America? That motherfucker would be able dance, have mad game, play soccer like a champ, work on cars, bang like a pro, play one of those over-sized guitars in a mariachi band, and deliver a beat-down, but would only be like 5'6"--on a stocky frame. Wait second, I already know like 6 dudes like this in real life.
