See, he was caught cause he tried that peer-to-peer network bullshit. A regular person has it easy. The sky's the limit for us because it's not easy to track that one person.

PTP networks are easier to track due to having one or more person seeding all of the downloads. So of course little Joel got caught cause he was seeding that music in a country where that shit is illegal (US duh). Had he found a way to start the network in another country the chances of him getting caught would be lower.

So you can download music/video/porn/crabs, but do not seed after you torrent. As for PTP networks don't try making one unless you really know how to hide your shit. (i.e piratebay is in another country so they are fine for now). And the safest way to share music would be through skype. I downloaded 18Gs of dubstep from my friend from skype and RIAA didn't fuck with us.

And fuck FOX News.

simply dont seed.
Set your seeding at a very low rate. and when you finish downloading you stop the torrent.
you get caught much faster when you seen.
Otherwise the risk are so low you shouldnt care unless you are doing massive amounts. over like 50gigs.

I downloaded 200gigs of movies to a hard drive in a week and never even got one of those stop letters

Shit, I've downloaded so much music illegally that'd I'd probably end up in jail at this point. I only get my music off Soulseek. It's a lessor known client than some others, but if you're looking mainly for electronica and underground music that's difficult to find, that's your home. Been using Soulseek almost exclusively for the last 10 years. I don't know what country their servers are based in.

I personally use private torrent trackers so I don't need to worry about this shit.

Apparently it was a jury that awarded the $675,000. They had to pick a number between 22k and 4.5 million, so they decide on 675k from a physics grad student? Fucking assholes.

Always use private trackers. Avoid places like piratebay if you can help it.

Just rent seedbox, sure they are not free but its a cheap insurance against getting sued and getting your check garnished for life.A Seedbox is basically a server overseas that give you root access and has a torrent client pre installed. You use the server to connect to trackers and then you FTP into the server to get your file to your home computer. Also, since you have root access you can run VPN servers, proxies or whatever kind of server you feel like running.

Even if a residence DOES get one of those letters, they have no proof of who did it. From what I hear, as long as you do not reply to it, as in do not give them your information, they cannot do anything.
