Fleshing out some day game openers
First off forgive me if this is supposed to go in the Day Bang Support forum but I read the rules there and I wasn't sure.

I have two ideas about fleshing out some openers. Day Bang's openers focus a lot on excuse me is that a good X? So I thought about saying "excuse me is that a good jacket?" then after I'd say "It's my sister's birthday next week and you have the same sort of style". I want to work in something like "I find it hard shopping for women it's like playing the lottery, always hit or miss. Do you find it hard to shop for guys?". But I was wondering if that went too personal right away. I haven't really dropped anything she can latch on to and I don't know how to make it more interesting.

The other idea I have is this when a cute girl is browsing the cereal aisle I'd take a box of chocolate capt'n crunch and say "you know I used to buy the original kind but now I want to live life in the fast lane and try chocolate". It needs some work but I've said similar things to cute female cashiers and they bent over laughing for some reason. It's like women have the same sense of humor as kids. But I digress. It never went far past my joke cause I just ran out of follow-up ideas. It seems pretty easy for a girl to brush off a guy saying that too.

I know I can use the material in Day Bang but I'd like to be able to come up with my own stuff.

It seems like your heart's in the right place, but there's only one way to find out. Go out and do it. Part of developing your own style and success is tweaking what works for you. Always be tweaking. (as in fixing, not doing meth)

Avoid personal pronous like you and I for the first few minutes. omit the part about your sister and asking her if she has the same problem. the elderly openers are focused intently on the prop and nothing else. its like the girl isn't even there.

and the line about cap'n crunch is toooooo funny. love it. but you are right. she has nothing to say from there. maybe start by asking about cereal first and then once you are intently focused on talking about cereal, drop your joke in there with a deadpan monotone (think Steven Wright).

sound like you are on the right track.

Feel free to the use the cereal line if something works for me I want to share it. Deadpan style is actually my strong point.
