Many of you guys have traveled way more than me and can shed some light. For those that haven't been to the US, there has been an absolute explosion of female tattooing in the last 20 years. I'm talking about normal women who are not at all connected to the BDSM/punker/metal/goth/biker subcultures. First they started off with the "cute" little rose or heart on the ankle. I never liked them, but it didn't seem to compromise her femininity. Then by the mid to late 90s, it migrated to the "tramp stamp" on the lower back. Usually something unimaginative like a butterfly. Then I started noticing by the 2000s chics getting their whole backs done up. And then soon after it was sleeves and having words written on their tits. At this point, the only tattoo men have that women don't is facial tattoos(which even for guys you have to be pretty fucking hardcore to get), but I guess within 5 years we'll start seeing women getting those too.

I'm starting to think that you can quickly assess the general femininity of a populations women by how many tattoos you see. I'm guessing you'll see the most amount of tattooed women in the USA and England(unsurprisingly). Maybe less so in the Slavic countries? I don't hear about it so much in E. Asia. I'm hearing that they are becoming more popular with women in Brazil unfortunately.

I wouldnt say more masculine.
But it goes along with the rebel mentality.
Tats are still looked as as rebellion in a way..even if they are pretty flower or something.

Ive noticed girls with tats are slightly easier to get into bed..or have less resistance to being more forward.

its the same thing with smoking..

I concur. Not a sign of masculinity, but certainly a sign of loose morality.

The modern tattoo explosion is obviously linked to fashion and people's inability to think long term.
However I agree with Speakeasy about masculinity, I do not find the chicks which openly shows her tattoos attractive. It is just hard to say whether it is because of tattoos or because of her overall behavior.

Tattoos are common enough now that if you see a younger female with some ink, it really doesn't tell you much at all.

I don't think it's a big deal, maybe just a slight indicator or sluttiness.

The more rebellious notion is spot on I think. I know more then a few inked girls (and not "look at my butterfly" ink) and most are very feminine, but more willing/wanting to be in your face. This can be a good thing as was pointed out because they're less likely to play games about sex. If they want to fuck you they'll just kinda go for it, cause that in and of itself is a bit rebellious.

I wouldn't say masculine, I'd say trashier. Tattooed girls are more likely to curse, drink heavily, do drugs, have dysfunctional lives, fight, smoke, fuck on a whim, lack domesticity, have roller coaster relationships. In a sense, most of these patterns are traditionally associated with men, but mostly low-class ones.

I wouldn't care whether a girl has a tattoo or not.

As we know at this point, women just go with the flow and what everyone else is feeling, they rarely have genuine opinions of their own.

Men with tattoos though... most of them are idiots (and I'm an idiot for wanting to jump on that bandwagon).

At least where I live, the capital of Hipsterdom, I see skinny meterosexual men with tattoos whose inspiration comes from convicts or other dangerous characters. These guys are so not dangerous, even women don't feel threatened by them. But that's the thing you see: women love tattoos because of its associations... they see a tattoo, realize this guy could be dangerous = wet panties. In 30 years, that feeling is going to disappear because so many wimpy like men have taken on these tattoos. The association for today's badass tattoos will be with tomorrow's weaklings.

A tattoo is most effective, in my opinion, as a badge of honor and glory. Recognition bestowed by OTHER men for your DEEDS. Not some dumbass thing you award yourself so you can look tougher but still be a wimp.

Only princesses and other narcissists pin medals on their own chest. REAL men get recognition through their deeds from OTHER real men. This is they way it should be and society would be better off if we stopped this bitching about "believing" in yourself, and "loving" yourself for "who you are" (fags) and instead we rewarded what we as society agreed to be honorably actions and deeds. Fucking Disney.

Fortunately, in the West we don't have a tradition for tattooing people for deeds done so this is all kind of a moot point. Spartans sent their boys out to kill helots or perish. We just waste a few thousand bucks on ink. Why the fuck would I waste money on painting my pasty-white butt with something that means NOTHING in the big picture. I hate myself for ever being so dumb as to think that'd be cool. But hey, I get older.

Actions. Not words. Not fucking paint on your ugly butt.

You want to look tough? Gym-time.

You want to feel good? Do right, to yourself and to others. Keep your commitments and promises, don't make them easily. Mean what you say. Put a lid on your dumbassery.

Tattoos were originally used by sailors and inmates. They would have an image of a hot girl on their arm so they'd have something to fap to when out at sea or incarcerated.

Tattoos on girls suck. Most girls are too stupid to realize how bad it looks. It looks like a skin disease.

They should make a federal law outlawing female tattoos.

In foreign girls that I see with tattoos, they are more likely to be overweight, have short hair, and appear more sloppy. By sloppy I mean that her look isn't tightened up.

In America, where just about all girls can be considered masculine, I can understand how you wouldn't equate tattoos with masculinity, but in foreign girls I see there is at least a slight correlation in a girl with A LOT of tattoos and masculine behavior. If a Polish girl has one little tattoo on her shoulder blade, there will not be an effect. But if she has the arm sleeve then I guarantee you she will be more masculine than average.

With tattoos, the dose is the poison. You can't say much with one little tattoo. But if she is tatted up then you see a strong difference as compared to the normal population, something you probably don't notice in America but you do while abroad.

The only other country I've been to where the women are as tatted as American girls is Brazil. You see a lot of calf tattoos there. I got no hate for guys like tattoos, but in my opinion nothing ruins the female form more than having one.

I couldn't agree more, and the frustrating thing is that so many American girls have them. If a college age girl doesn't have a tattoo in America, she is the exception rather than the rule. For me it is a huge turn off. I find them trashy, low class, and extremely short sighted.

Can you imagine if you knock up a girl and seeing her covered in tatt's knowing she is the mother of your child? Nightmarish. I know it's not supposed to be that way - seeing your child come out of the flesh next to a trashy permanent cartoon on the mother.

The other thing that rivals tattoos for me are facial piercings. If a girl has her eyebrow pierced, her lip, her nostril (can be the least offending), her nasal septum (most offending, like a bull), ear expanders, or a labret I know I am in for trouble. Basically anything other than traditional earrings ruins the form and is short sighted. Who would do that? Well, too many American girls.

Between obesity, tattoo's and facial piercings it is not a very good market these days. I hope this changes. Maybe it's time for us to start shaming tattoos and piercings. I shamed a dude for having his nasal septum pierced at the bar a while back - he didn't fight me that night. Instead he saw me the next day outside and gave a nice old "fuck your nose ring" shout out as he squealed by on his douchebag hipster bicycle. That's right asshole, fuck your nose ring.

Incredibly unfeminine, though I don't necessarily find it masculine unless it's full arm sleeve or entire back or something like that.

More than anything, it signals to me that she has less future time orientation than the average female (and we know the avg female has less of this than the avg male), and is a better prospect for casual sex.
