I play guitar and can pull off basic singing.

What are some acoustic songs that I can "serenade" girls with when we're hanging out in my pad? I mostly play metal guitar, so I'm not really sure what's a cool pop song that can be played on solo acoustic that (most) girls are familiar with and like.

Neil Young? Cheap Trick? Clash? What?

Please limit suggestions to popular songs that get mainstream radio play.

The song works OK acoustically, but really has its power with the whole backing band elements and vocal harmonies. Great song though, the girls will melt.

learn a couple from diff eras and genres, and then calibrate to the girl- what song could you bust out that would blow her mind because its obscure but she has always loved it.

BTW stay away from wussbag music like Jason Mraz and "Hey Soul Sister" type garbage. In fact, look real close at lyrics and eliminate all wussbag tunes (which is a lot of them) Get ones with simple chord progressions so you are less likely to screw up and more able to flirt whilst playing.

Try "whole wide world" by Wreckless Eric. Chicks love it and hamsters do too.

Also, keep the guitar out on display and let her mention it first. Pretend to be reluctant to play, and downplay your skill.

Then blow her mind.

I guess it's different where I am- there are a lot of musicians in bands (it's almost a cliche in Brooklyn).

From my experience, if you are doing it out of your own volition, and not playing a song because she's asked you to, then it can be cool.

When you sing/play it doesn't mean you're affected by the lyrics/song. It just means you like the song enough to know how to play it, and wouldn't mind playing it to a chick.

It makes you display your talents and skills without coming out as try-hard.

I gotta chime in strongly against this. I know the OP is looking for good songs to sing, but I advise against this in all cases unless you want this girl for an LTR.

I've been playing guitar for 19 years, I was going to do it professionally (I play classical and flamenco mostly and rock as a side hobby). You could say I'm pretty good at it. Ive played guitar for a lot of girls, and I can safely say, pack up guitar playing with the rest of the chivalrous bullshit that we all thought would work on girls, because that's the reaction you'll get. When you play for a girl, they're so insecure that they feel like THEY'RE on stage and they have to have the "right" reaction. These are not feelings that are going to get them wet. What's more, is even with girls that I already banged, and with girls who REQUESTED that I play for them, after I play the first thing out of their mouth is this shit test: "So what, this is your schtick? You bring girls back to your place and play guitar for them to get in their pants?" After the second girl said that, my automatic response is, "It's funny, every girl that I bring back here says that." (There's nothing any girl hates more than being lumped in with the rest of her gender)

There's nothing more insulting than some bitch insinuating that I used to spend 6 hours a day practicing just to get laid. For this reason, I withhold any music from them UNLESS she's worth it, and UNLESS she's worthy of an LTR, at which point you should definitely bust out the tunes. Every ex gf I've ever had has told me afterward "I miss your playing."

Just make sure you're good. Go to a community college and take some voice lessons and a semester of performance. The hours are low and it's a great return, and there's usually a decent mix of slutty girls in music classes.

If you HAVE to play for new bangs, I suggest the following:
After you bang her, go to the bathroom and clean up. Come back and leave her in the bedroom. Go out to your living room or den or whatever, still naked, bust out your guitar, and just start playing by yourself, not for her. Ignore her and pretend you're at your place by yourself having a little jam session. If she questions it afterward, just say "I felt like it."

When you play guitar for someone, if you are not doing it for money, then you are doing it for applause. For approval. That's the frame. Validation-seeking is beta. You are giving her the power to say "that was crap", or worse, to say it's good but to think that it's crap.

Only way it *might* work is to play it for yourself and to let her catch you doing it. Perhaps refuse to answer questions about it - women love intrigue.

You guys are going at it the wrong way. You just happen to mention someday that you can play and sing. She wants to see it in action, you tell her maybe someday.

A day comes where casually there's a guitar with you, she asks again. Whats the harm on playing a cool song for her?

I've played guitar quite a bit, and I never play for girls. I just leave the guitars out (the cheapest one is usually hanging off the wall, that tells her I play, I keep my nicer ones in their cases underneath the bed).

Only after we've banged +10 times and she's been begging, will I play... usually in exchange for a home-cooked meal. Quid pro quo.

When that does happen, my go-to is John Mayer's rendition of Free Fallin'.

exactly. I have 3 guitars hanging out at my pad. That's DHV enough. At some point girls always ask about it, and I'm more than happy to tell them that yes, I'm pretty decent at guitar. When they ask to hear a song I just tell them they'd probably fall in love, so no.

There are two exceptions that I have for playing guitar for girls.

1) Foreign girls. As could be predicted, American girls are the only ones that lack the culture and have all these weird fucking hangups about hearing music that turns them into insecure retards. Any foreign girl I've played for eats this shit up. Just like paying a foreign girl a compliment is much different than an American.

2) Playing for a group. This shows some balls which is a turn on, and takes away the anxiety that a girl might feel in one-on-one. If you're good and can get a reaction from the group, it's great DHV. God forbid a single girl compliment you, but when she hears *other* people compliment you it registers in her brain.

I play bass, anyway.

Here's your trick- get a bass, learn some kick-ass and recognizable bass lines, and have her sit on your big bass amp while you play.

The bass amp has some serious fucking boom to it, and it will be as good as a ride on a Harley....

Give her a drink and a smoke while you stroke those strings, and she sits on your vibrations. Make sure she has good visual cues from that vantage - you looking hot on bass, and even some vivid or sexual artwork...

all you'll need is the sense of when to put the bass down and stroke something else instead...
