What he uses seem to be the insides of a regular cheap webcam. A reasonable Android cell phone usually has a much better cam.

You can buy that kind of cam at any spyshop, or online. They make all kinds of them, and he seems to have chosen one that looks like a shirt button. The smaller the technology, the less resolution, unless you want to spend a ridiculous amount of money.

Not just the resolution, but the light sensitivity as well.

I agree but it came to mind because I remember some discussion on here b4 about how hard it is to record women, unless you have something undercover.

Unless it's your permanent space, where you can set up something hidden beforehand, it's obviously harder to record your exploits. When me and my boys were in Brazil, one of us actually negotiated use of a guy's apartment in Ipanema. He was gay, so he said he'd simply stay with his boyfriend while we were there. One of my boys set up his camcorder in one of the bedrooms, and put some clothing on top of it to hide it. I ended up making a movie without even knowing it! With these much smaller cams with remote transmitters, it's much easier.

This guy had the little camera hidden in his shirt, so he had to find maybe a chair to hang the shirt on with it facing the bed to pull it off.

Anyone know of a program that lets you use motion detection to start recording a video from your laptop webcam, without pop-ups or sound?

For strictly benign purposes, of course.

On Linux we have Motion and ZoneMinder, those work quite well.
