The end of DeBeers
One of the worlds longest lived Monopolies...

Interesting how they manipulated the marketing to sell their stones, equating commitment with some object. You have to blame women for supporting the concept, the men, on the other hand, were just trying to get laid. Most of this was pre-Roosh. Poor lads. Could have saved everyone a ton of money.

The end of De Beers? I knew it was being sold to Anglo American, but presumed that Anglo would keep the company as a seperate entity. The De Beers brand is worth quite a bit. The fact that some people view them as evil incarnate probably helps in this respect.

I think the author is just being melodramatic, saying that he thinks they will fade away without the Oppenheimers at the helm. Maybe now, as just another part of a faceless corporation, they will. But it's not clear what will happen.

De Beers is definitely a case study you want to look into if you are interested in marketing. How many companies have created such lasting, widespread and profitable traditions, such as engagement ring giving, as DeBeers? Traditions that become part of the fabric of life, rather than a marketing gimick, and lose (almost)all connection with the originator of the idea in the mind of the public.

Trying to get laid by buying girls expensive gifts!?! Those guys were dumb.

Remember, this is a company that for years was owned and operated by men. This whole idea of having to buy a woman an expensive wedding ring was mostly a male invention. It was a marketing ploy to get betas to spend money, just like Valentines Day!

Not all men want you to be an Alpha. Men who sell diamonds, flowers, candy, cards, lingerie, and high heels would rather you were beta!

Shit, nightclub owners, strip club owners and pimps want you to be beta also!

They want your $$$
