I can point out some new music styles from the 00's. But we have to focus on Latin music for a minute.

The 2000's gave us the breakthrough of reggaeton and bachata (Aventura's mainstreamed fusion of bachata).

When you look at it, the principal artists are nearly all 70's tribe (Don Omar, Daddy Yankee, most of Aventura). The only ones I can think of for the 80's generation are Plan B, and their best music only came recently in this new decade.

Really? I've been in fights from grade school through high school a few in college and more than a few well into adulthood. Maybe I grew up in a rougher place than you. Or maybe it was because I had a crew that I had to maintain/look out for. Anyone in a high social position as a kid had to defend himself and his turf on a regular basis. That's just the way it is.

Other aggressive males always found their way to me. Fighting attracts guys who like to fight. Then again, you did lose...

Either way, I'm not sure your approach is the right way to go for people who don't want to get their heads kicked in.

Bottom line being, you can always find an older, glorified, better version of the best thing going. Did Jordan score 100? No, therefore Wilt must be the best ever.

Let's not let simplistic, era-vs-era arguments take the stage. I get that the 2000-2010 decade was weak in terms of music. It was also the first decade in which we could all download and listen to whatever the f*ck we pleased without the tastemaking influence of radio. Baby-boomer parents influenced the earlier crowds, which gave them something to rebel AGAINST. We had nothing but Napster and a whole lot of MySpace.

I personally would prefer to "sit back relax steam a blunt sip a Becks" than sit around arguing in circles. Let's "get back to the lecture at hand."

Let's inform the people as to how to gain their edge. Complaining about the "new breed" is not a way of doing that. Bringing out the cutting-edge, innovative shit -- that's the way to prosper.

This thread is about the weakness of the "average, modern man's" game -- let's dissect that a little bit further and figure out where we can differ. Because when it comes down to it, "we" (and I mean that term loosely) are wolves in sheeps' clothing, trying to scheme our way into the "mainstream" broads without having to go through the 6'5"-great-family-name-hockey/football-playing-dopey-talking-sweat-pants-wearing gauntlet of those "mainsteam" dudes.

I'm not saying I never got into the odd dust up or even rumble after this point, just that I was never a target after this anymore (and of course I was about 6'2 entering high school). That in itself is the best way to deal with bullying; show them that you won't take any of their shit, and even if you lose, you'll earn some grudging respect (he was roughing me up in 5th grade, by the time I was in 10th I was buying buddah sacks from him).

And its certainly a far better, less time-consuming way than lobbying the daddy state to fight your battles for you. I refused to sign the kid's petition because I told him that he should learn to fight his own battles (even offered to show him how to throw punches), not learn to rely on the government to fight them for him (my Aunt was pissed about this, my Uncle agreed with me [after she had left the room of course]) and that all this anti-bullying rhetoric is bullshit (there will always be bullies, no matter how hard the government tries to legislate it out).

That in itself encapsulates the 'average guy's bad game' problem to me; someone else will do it for you. Can't meet girls? Your friends will set you up, you can do online dating (not hating on any OL guys here; most of you are doing it to augment your pipeline) or you can date a chick you work with; the street or club approach terrifies them.

You should judge them by when they produced their best work. Led Zeppelin started in the 60's, but anyone with a sense of music orientation would judge them as a 70's band.


Radiohead was a god in both the 90's and 00's, but your question was whether or not 00's was a good decade for music. I say it was just as good as the 90's, if not better. The 90's had a tremendous amount of trash produced.

The 00's got rid of all the crap as the internet model of music production basically forced anyone who wanted to make money off music out of the business.

By the way - no good rap produced in the 00's?

I get the point of your post, but Meyer went well beyond Rothstein.

Rothstein may have fixed the world series, but Meyer controlled a city and a country.

This is a classic case of not "following the leader".

And he died of old age.

Rothstein got gunned down.

The worst game I saw in recent memory was last weekend. This guy rolled up to the girl next to me and gave her a chocolate bar. Yes, a chocolate bar. He followed up with some lame "you're very pretty" type of comment then hovered next to her after he ran out of things to say. I almost spit my drink out as I watched this unfold. Later that night I ran into a dude carrying his gf's purse around as they went from bar to bar. I didn't think guys' game could get worse here but I was wrong.
