I know you don't watch much TV, but honestly G, how have you not checked out an episode or two of Mad Men? Don Draper is a constantly suited, constantly smoking, constantly drinking, constantly banging younger women super-alpha who does what he wants and to hell what anyone else thinks...if your website were a TV show, it'd be Mad Men. You can get season one dirt cheap on Amazon, for the next time you're just hanging out or you bust out your laptop on a long flight (and I should probably also mention that girls love this show).

I like the dude, comes off as an earnest, down-to-earth guy who isn't afraid to ruffle the feathers of the PC police, we need more of that.

Jon Hamm is a great actor, but he is a card carrying Hollywood leftist. I've seen him expound on matters social and political. There was a reason he was going to be a high school teacher had the acting path failed.

People always say I bite stuff from James Bond as well, but the reality is I saw maybe one or two Bond movies as a kid, and maybe one or two since.

I have actually forced myself to watch a few earlier Connery Bonds in the last two years.

I also started to read the Bond books, I am on the 4th one right now, but I started those two years ago.

That's a good 5 years after I started The G Manifesto. And my first notes for The G Manifesto date back to 1999. I obviously didn't think it would be a blog back then. I was thinking a book.

So because someone pursues and practices an art means they can't think and is a liberal drone? Also, I wouldn't be calling actors who've gained
high-profile/popular roles to be necessarily stupid, it takes charisma, savvy, talent, and hard work to make it in Hollywood.

You probably simply didn't agree with him.

I don't agree with liberals but if they can debate with plausible arguments I can at least respect them. People with different views than you aren't necessarily stupid.

And to be a good educator takes a lot of careful thought and planning.

It's on AMC, new episodes return March 25th at 9. One hour with ads, 44 minutes(?) on the DVDs and I'm sure there's tons of places to watch it online, if you're ever inclined.

I think Connery's movies were generally better (Goldfinger and From Russia with Love are top-5), but I liked Roger Moore's more seasoned portrayal of Bond a little better.

high-profile/popular roles to be necessarily stupid, it takes charisma, savvy, talent, and hard work to make it in Hollywood.

It's funny that both Hamm and Craig play characters that would probably be considered misogynist by the current definition. I'm a MAJOR Bond fan. I've seen all of the films several times. I've actually never seen an episode of "Mad Men," though I'm aware of the acclaim it gets and some day I'll grab the season DVDs and watch. There are so many good series on cable, and on top of that all the sports that I watch makes it hard for me to watch everything as it airs. But I do know that "Mad Men" was from an era when men were men, and women were...secretaries.

I've just started watching Mad Men on netflix and it's pretty damn good. They have the first 4 seasons available on streaming.

I'm kinda similar to Draper when it comes to stoicism and being unflappable. At least when I'm not drinking. Drinking didn't use to effect me on that for some reason and I need to work on it

Peggy (in the first season anyway) looks and acts a lot like my first long term girlfriend, except for her hairstyle. Big hair was the thing in the 80's.

You guys that haven't seen it should check it out. I'm glad I finally did.

Mad men is a top rank show. One of those rare shows you can watch without being subliminally fed a PC-feminist agenda.

A lot can be learned from Don Draper. Dude has serious frame control. I've watch most of the series and I can't recall a single time where he was forced to say or do something or respond to a question when he didn't want to.

Some of my favorite scenes are where he punks Pete Campbell.

Anyone else think Peggy is a bit uppity?

I've heard Hamm talk as Jon Hamm. Contrary to the implication that because he plays a cool character he IS LIKE THAT character, Jon Hamm is not very smart.

Are some leftists smart? Oh sure. But to take leftist position and maintain intelligence is swimming upstream against a tough current.

And tell me -- how many really thoughtful and organized high school teachers did YOU have? You're right -- to be a good educator takes skill. But there's a reason that lots of less than competent folks wind up there.

A key premise of this thread is that Hamm is a cool smart guy.

One's ability to argue political positions reflects whether you are a cool smart guy.

Hamm has uttered leftist inanities on Bill Maher (and yes there are rightist inanities, too) that show he is neither cool nor smart.

Therefore, it is not about injecting liberal hate (and I wouldn't call it hate, I would call it contempt and pity).

Gotta go with tenderman on this one. I've heard Hamm speak and he simply does not give the impression that he's particularly smart. He is most certainly not Don Draper. Now, he's right about celebrity and stupidity, but we should not impute any brilliance onto him for saying something that's plain for everyone to see.
