This seems like the most general AirBnB thread so I'll give some advice here.

Roosh just tweeted "Airbnb, what a great site! Until you find out that they charge guests a 10% fee. Boner killer." Here's what I do to avoid paying most of the 10% fee if you're planning on staying a bit. Contact the landlord and indicate that you're interested in renting for whatever the minimum stay is (for nicer places frequently 3+ days) and potentially longer. Message back and forth with a question or two to get an initial feel for the person: are they friendly, prompt at responding, etc. Once you feel more comfortable with each other tell him you've finalized your plans and would like to stay longer than the initial stay, e.g. 1 month, however, you would like to pay the remaining via PayPal to avoid the AirBnB fee. As most landlords request feedback on the AirBnB site for their property they'll still get that, as will you, and you'll only be paying the fee for the first few days. I've done this a few times and so far no landlord has said no, rather, they were quite welcome to the idea. Since I'm generally renting in non-Western countries any legal protection I would receive from AirBnB is about as valuable as the pixels you read it on, and that's where prior reviews and the character judgement call from messages or even talking on the phone comes in. Pretty good system there Soma. It's best to have a couple of vanilla stays through AirBnb at first though in order to rack up a few good reviews.

For a place like NYC where hotel prices are insane AirBnb is god send. Still madly expensive though. As a comparison on my upcoming US trip I'm paying more by night for a 1br from AirBnb in NYC than I am for a Ritz-Carlton in Florida!

restarting an old thread, but yea. the idea soma used is good. if you have it on deck..You can use pure cash.

for cheaper countries, make a good story and by a high class place.
i got a nice apartment next to the embassies in Budapest. told girls i was working for the embassy.
had one girl in the verge of leaving her boyfriend to be my live in fuck toy.

and then i disappear from the city days later.
