RE: The reputation system has been disabled
I kinda saw something like this coming the past week or so, what with certain members waving their dick around basically demanding special privileges.
Roosh's response to Mixx at the beginning of this thread sums it up;
Quote:I find it hard to believe that you need a number to feel worthy or recognized instead of the many replies and praise you get for your contributions.
If the only reason any member is contributing is to get a "rep point" instead of learning, sharing, and connecting with others, then maybe they should re-evaluate their reasons for being here. This isn't high school.
As has been stated by others, rep points end up being gamed, played, and becoming nothing more than a validating e-dick over time. Anyone that has spent a little time reading the forum can figure out who the guys giving out gold are. Besides, most of the really good info is given out in the discussion relating to a topic, not the original thread starter that inevitably would garner the most rep points.
Also, if someone gives out bullshit advice someone will shortly be along to call them on it. Rep points are superfluous if one actually reads a bit here.

That is the thing...
I'd add Chad Daring to that list.
There were solid members that were ""underrated"" in terms of rep-points, but they, as far as I can tell, were always treated and listened in like terms with members with much more rep points than them.
My point?
Independent of rep-points, we will know who are the solid contributors of the forum.
This rep point thing has led to much pettiness within our community, the way I see it.
You see, all I know is ball, and good, and...

MikeCF: There are members with the highest rep counts on the forum who agree with this decision. You're making it sound more oppressive than it is, like I'm moderating posts.
It's interesting how G, who had the 2nd highest rep, is laughing this off, while Mixx stormed out the room. I think Mixx may have used today's events as a pretext to something he was planning, as speakeasy explained. There was tension coming from his corner in recent weeks. In his case, I don't think there would be anything I could do, besides create a private clubhouse for him, that would satisfy his desire to be recognized for his contributions.
This forum is truly microcosm of society. I tweeted about it earlier (https://twitter.com/#!/rooshv/status/177055069202681857 ).
P.S. I guess I'll beat Mixx to 5,000.
I pretty much laugh off everything.

I raised this point earlier.
Honestly, if there was any deflation, it was at the top.
Mixx has 100 rep points? He should have had 800.
Neil should have had more also, but he had like 40? With 1000 posts.
Hell, I had 4000 posts and 60?
Mixx had 4000 posts and 100?
Neil was doing pretty damn well if you think about it.
(Plus he bitched about it every day for three months, so he got a bunch of "courtesy rep points™")
Wait, Was this Beta?™ that I knew that?
I don't look at it that way. I don't think just because someone has made a lot of posts that means they deserve more points. I judge the quality of the posts, not really the quantity.
Neil dropped a very thorough data sheet about an off-the-beaten path country like Suriname (before I joined the forum, I think) and didn't receive a single rep point for it until way after he complained about that!
I think that's ridiculous. When a guy goes through great lengths to share data about a country that is so remote and unknown, he deserves some props.
Neil never got his just due under the old system. He had to speak out about that many times.
This is exactly how it happened and i complained about it once or twice not every day (but i assume that's a joke). I "bitched" and/"complained" about the rep system after that Suriname post that even had naked picture of the banged flag i got there. I had been going out while sick as a dog and still managed to capture a flag. While others were getting rep points for opening a thread on how to tie shoe laces or something. I found it unfair, just like some points i mentioned before in my post here. Like i said there, i only value rep point made a known guys. I'm not fishing for rep points nor do i want rep points like the one about my joke about toilets.
I had 29 rep points by the way, not 40. I gained quite a few lately after dropping some knowledge on here.
Anyway, its way past bed time here in my small country and i just spend the last 4 hours on this forum, Time to catch some zzzz's

Isn't being the most respected guy amongst a group of respectable guys recognition?
The rep system as it existed was like being the guy with the most Monopoly money. Yeah you might have had a lot, but anyone and everyone could give it out for anything and everything.
Guys like G, MiXX, yourself, Tuth, and all the others dont need rep, your words and personas speak for themselves.

I guess maybe because this is an internet forum, not a job.
The best comparison I can think of off the top of my head is the "achievement" system in video games today. Sure you can feel good about your "points" or "rewards", but they're still ultimately pointless. Does anyone else really care? Not really.
So, you have to ask... was it a good idea to take something disruptive away that really just a few e-penises. Probably.
Ones reputation proceeds and defines them, not some green number on a screen. Any numbskull can figure that out.
I wonder what they would have done in the old days before the internet...?
Wait, was my argument beta?

RE: The reputation system has been disabled
I tend to agree with MikeCF and feel like this forum got punk'ed in some ways by guys who felt it was unfair, life is unfair, deal with it! I liked the rep point system, it felt good to have your thread recognized by your peers, but if its gonna cause this much grief then good riddence.
I was also pretty choked to hear that Mixx left, hopefully he has a change of heart and comes back. His posts about everything Colombia on here helped me so much during my current stay in the country, I owe him big time.
Anyway if this is the kind of thing the forum needs to go through to keep it high quality then so be it, I have faith that Roosh will figure something out and things will be back to normal, hopefully with Mixx!
God damned them all, I was told we'd cruise the seas for American gold, we'd fire no guns-shed no tears, now I'm a broken man on a Halifax pier, the last of Barrett's privateers!
