Anyone gonna be around Medellin in April? I'm trying to decide between Bogota or Medellin...I've only been to Cali. I have some friends in Bogota but I'm not a fan of grey/shit weather. An I always hear how amazing of a city Medellin is from almost everyone who has been there including a Colombian girl I'm banging here in Lima who is from Bogota but tells me to go to Medellin.

Imho Cali is the best of the three if your Spanish and your game is on point. Otherwise Medellin as it's the best place to improve your Spanish.

Most Gringos flock to El Poblado, its a very nice place and probably the most upscale barrio in the entire country, some of the Airbnb rentals there are amazing. You have everything there: gyms, high end malls, trendy restaurants, bars, pubs, night life, metro, etc. You could stay in El Poblado, never leave and have a great time. Myself however, I don't really like it because its on a hill and you're always climbing up and down, plus its a bit too upscale for my blue collar ass. I prefer Laureles near the Estadio metro station, on carerra 70 you also have all of the above mentioned amenities but they are are less fancy, more working class people but its still pretty safe and I always have a good time at the small bars and clubs there (Pico de Botella is my favourite bar and Jenny Lao my favourite club in the area), la 70 has gotten better in recent years, more eateries and bars are popping up all the time and the best part is that its totally flat so no walking up hills in the heat!

One of the main reasons I can't stay in Bogota for more than a few days is the bad air quality and Medellin has gotten noticeably worse over the past few years, I find the cities in the coffee zone are much better.

I lived in Medellin for 2 years and used to wipe black shit out of my nose regularly from breathing in the smog. I'm now starting to think it might have something to do with a nerve condition (diagnosed polyneuropathy - cause unknown) I developed last year which I saw the first signs of while living in Medellin. The air smog is disgusting. I was actually considering swinging through Medellin soon to say hi to some friends but this article has reminded me of how bad it was. I think I will start prioritizing air quality when deciding on places to spend my time, who knows what the shit is doing to your body.

Scotian did you find the air quality was bad in all of Bogota or just in Candelaria/Centro? Maybe it's all relative but up around 85, 93 and places like that they seemed pretty good compared to diesel exhaust bouncing off the buildings in and blowing in your face in the narrow streets of La Candelaria.

I was probably there long enough that I just got used to it.

I have heard of this clown Wiz Khalifa, but I guess I am too old to really understand his popularity....either way he is getting blasted all over Colombia today....for his disrespectful posts on IG about Pablo Escobar.....

I guess the lesson learned is all publicity is good even the bad!

A bit ironic as Compared to Snoop Dogg who performed here last year at this time and was adored by the Colombians as he wore a Colombian National Futbol Jersey on stage and raved about the beauty of the country and the people!

Interesting how some performers are clued in more and know how to connect to the culture...

Younger folks wouldn't care much about your post or air pollution.. But as a older gent (with a beard) things like.... health and longevity become increasingly more important. So much so that for the time being I am scratching Medellin off my list of possible destinations for next month.

Medellin pollution is bad, but there are worse cities.

China's air pollution is way worse.

Jakarta and Bangkok are worse.

I'd say Medellin is on par with LA in the 80s.

On another note, that is one of the big perks of Poblado--because you're in the hills you don't suffer from the pollution like in other areas of the city.

Maybe that's why I never notice it. Everyone talks about the air quality in MDE, but the air seems fine to me. I hiked from Poblado to Envigado and back one day and that's a very long haul. Never noticed bad air.

The only times I ever remember noticing how horrible the air is was in L.A., Mexico City, and Bangkok. The air burns your nose.

The air has been worse lately than I've ever seen it, but it still doesn't reach Chinese levels. The majority of the pollution is caused by old vehicles and the fact that it can't escape from the valley easily; it's also due to the time of year and weather. Luckily it looks like they are taking it seriously. They've already forced some older trucks/diesels off the roads and have other measures they are planning to enforce or considering.

Medellin isn't nearly as bad as Bogota, Cr33pin I would still consider it man it really is the nicest city in the country and definitely worth checking out.

I'm always wondering what the baseline for spanish language competency is vis a vis game. I might be better in spanish, it not being my native language, just because I'm simple and direct (and maybe have a foreign take or differing accent). I studied in Spain and have been there multiple times so I have an advanced working level of the language but I haven't done too much gaming

I'm wondering how bad some are and it still works and am wondering also if you are pretty good just don't overthink it and keep it simple?

Signing up for Bodytech is more complicated than getting a car loan or a mortgage in North America. Basically they are the best chain of gyms in the country but they have three different types, something like basic, standard and premium. If you have a premium membership then you can work out at any location but if you have basic, you'll pay extra to work out at a premium. This was a concern of mine since I was traveling all over the country and would need to visit multiple locations. The basic was around 160.000 pesos, which is about 30-50.000 more than you'd pay at a comparable gym in Medellin.

I have hit Premium Plaza, Rio Sur, and Superior (El Poblado)....

Premium Plaza was the biggest of those 3 with lots of room and good equipment

Rio Sur was more exclusive, smaller, and less equipment (Higher Level Membership)

Superior was in between the two in regards to equipment.(Higher level Membership)

As far as women it's Medellin....at peak times your gonna have plenty of hot women around.....

Scotian is correct about the memberships....it a pain in the ass all have varying levels of status and this affects the cost and which ones you can enter depending on your status of membership.
