I want to do a scouting trip to Bello tomorrow afternoon. Take the metro till Niquia and then take a taxi or bus to Bello. Have some lunch there and find a bar to watch the Clasico between Barcelona and Real Madrid. Have a few beers and see whats going on there.

I think that you just have to get off one stop before Niquia, which is the Bello stop near the central downtown area of Bello. In the last few days I've researched everything found on the forum regarding Bello, and have read a lot of blogs and random pieces about Bello, and it seems really mixed. It's still got a surprisingly bad reputation for being low class and unsafe, mostly at night. Read that muggings are still pretty common and gringos would be very uncommon. Even my friend who's lived all his life in Medellin says he doesn't like going there. It is supposedly getting a lot better and safer though.

All that makes me think it's probably even more worth going. Logistics if you meet someone there would be the challenge.

In the last week there have been some developments in Medellin regarding safety. The Clan Usuga has basically started a war on the government. They have killed 10 cops (including one in Bello), they burned a bus in a nicer Belen neighborhood, and fired shots around the same area. In areas further to the north they have also stopped and burnt a bus or buses and killed some passengers. Because of this, many bus lines have stopped running their northern routes. Today there is a rumor going around that there will be violence in the city tonight; I know several Colombians that are taking this threat seriously and staying at home.

I'm planning on going about my business as normal, but for you guys thinking you can come here and explore areas that the locals consider dangerous, it would be wise to be more aware of your surroundings than normal.

Alright amigos, just got back from a night at parque lleras, just for old time's sake. What are my options for Saturday night? I want to try something new, but prefer to avoid clubs.

How did Bello turn out for you guys? I once visited Itagui, and it seemed promising. Might head back.

But oh my, this place is really getting infested with gringos. Just being here makes me feel like a pervert. Gotta get out of the Poblado, and hit that pavement.

I always have a decent time on la 70, there's lot of street side bars and small clubs there and people hanging out on the streets. Its more working class there but totally safe. La Tienda is fun but better with a group, I like Pico de Botella and further down, Bongos. If you're into black chicks, Jenny Lao is probably the best club in the country to find them.

When you say that do you mean like old guy "Thailand types" or just too many gringos in general?

I've never been to Medellin but in other Colombian cities there weren't that many gringos

You'll see a few older gringo guys with obvious prepagos there but they're mostly low key, the more annoying gringos are the hordes of hostel travelers who hang out there. There's a lot of hostels in Poblado and Colombia is often the last stop on the South America back packer circuit so many of them are haggard looking by the time they end up there.

I am by no means a Medellin expert, but have spent a good deal of time there.....my last few visits the Hostel scene has exploded in Poblado....it's such a torture to me to see let alone be in the same bar as the hipster, dread locked, trucker cap/tank top wearing "I am so interesting" crowd....but it is what it is.....and it's only gonna keep multiplying.

Like Scoatian I prefer La 70, Envigado, or Estadio.....However, more and more I treat Medellin like Las Vegas now....2-3 days to party, enjoy the nice weather, stay at a nice hotel with a pool, meet a few Paisa amigas......

Mainly I use it as a place I meet friends flying in from the states that are loaded up on Dollars and want to act like ballers for the weekend....rent out the penthouse in the Charly.....and go nuts....

But for my money the Zona de Cafe is a more authentic Paisa experience in the towns of Manizales and Perira.....girls are a step down in looks from Paisas in Medellin.....but way less hipster/backpacker/flashpacker crowds to deal with....my Bogota friend nailed it when he called Perira and Manizales "The outlet malls of Medellin" .......

Agreed. There are about five new hostels where just one used to be. In fact, I spoke to the owner of one last night.

I'm seeing mostly backpacker grinogs, big Australian dudes with shorts and muscle tops, travelling in packs. They walk around with enormous confidence, though I wonder whether they're pulling anything but prepagos.

I'm starting to get the line: do you just come to Medellin for sex? Never got that before.

Will definitely hit up some of those areas tonight. Thanks for the tips gentlemen.

Outside of Candelaria in Bogota I rarely saw large groups of gringos. You're right about the "last stop" thing. Most the gringos I met in Bogota already traveled through SA, came from Medellin or the Coffee region and were just in Bogota to fly home.

In general I found the majority of the backpackers ending their trip to be either to be broke or burned out to even dip their line in the water, so they were a non-factor competition wise.

I actually hope that Bogota maintains a bit of it's dangerous/gritty image just to keep a good chunk of tourists away.

I doubt they are pulling anything noteworthy, some prepago ish guisas or some used up Gringo Tuesday type.

I personally thought the talent in Pereira was better than Manizales. And I thought Pereira was on par with Medellin in terms of girls looks-wise. The volume of Medellin is where it has the advantage. But those country girls have a soft spot in my heart.

I stayed in one of these hostels for three nights when I arrived because my AirBnb was not free yet. I noticed that all of these hostel guys were not really interested in the local girls. They all went for the backpacker chicks first. When I stayed there there were two 7s one from France and one from Sweden with their ugly friends there. All the guys were constantly hitting on these two chicks asking them to do day trips together, go to some museum or play pool. In the evening 10 guys or even more were gathered around the bar tables were these chicks were sitting.

What impressed me when I was in Perreira was Tinder. Damn. Like 90% matches with the local chicks. In Medellin I don't think I hit more than 10%.. That said, Pereira is not a very nice city and I would never live there. Manizales has a better ''onda''.

I confirm and got really bored about Parque Lleras lately. Way too many gringos in my tastes. In the weekend, I just never want to go again in Lleras. For Thursday nights, I must say Babylon or Bendito Seas can be fun options.

Scotian, thanks for your list of a few clubs in la 70, I really need to check them out.

That said, guys, can you name some places you like @ Envigado / Itagui / Bello / Centro ; with good possibilities of meeting nice girls? I speak almost perfect Spanish though.

As for the ones asking about Bello: I have been only once there (small club named Durden) and both me and my friends ended up fucking a girl met in the club a few days later. I felt like I was a trophy for 50% of the girls there, honestly. Certainly not something I ever felt in Lleras.

Good post overall, but are you saying Santa Fe is not that great for daygame? I spent a total of three weeks in Medellin and by far the best place I found for daygame or nightgame was Santa Fe.

Also, I'm not getting the "tease them like crazy part." I think I completely agree with all other points in your post.

Huntah, I would not say the quality in Pereira is on par with Medellin. Many 7s, but real fine looking girls, like you can find in Medellin, are rare. And there are more chubby girls. Also, age differences are not as much as in Medellin, so had to settle for more over 26 girls than I usually care to.
That being said, the girls are nicer and less flaky and the atmosphere is more chill and relaxed. It will probably be my 2nd home in Colombia after Barranquilla.
Manizales is too small, conservative and a bit boring. Pereira is more fun loving, warm and relaxed.
All this being said, I still cant wait to go back to Brazil in 10 days. Manaus, Goiania and Belem await.

Can you name some of them you'd like for day game? Near Poblado if possible. Only can think of EAFIT but it's small I think.

Santa Fe is usually empty, which is misleading because it's a huge mall in a high-traffic area of the city.

Of course you'll find chances to meet girls here, like any mall. But I think there are better places to daygame (namely campuses).

Maybe it's just in line with my personal game, but teasing relentlessly works wonders for me with these girls.

How many pulls did you get from UPB or EAFIT?

I was at EAFIT for weeks approached a few girls. The lighter skinned ones were bitches.

The darker much nicer.

I spoke basic Spanish back then, vibe still tough and the girls seemed gringo resistant.

Fluent Spanish seemed to me like it could make it about 10x easier. My experience with Colombia is for daygame especially fluent Spanish is extremely important unless you are an 8+ on the looks scale.

Hey just a reminder to everyone be cautious with any belongings you take with you, especially in public transport. If you can't loose it don't bring it.

I just got my phone stolen yesterday on the transmilenio in Chapinero. Now when I think about it was a two person job. One blocking my way kind of obnoxiously and the other taking my cell phone and running.

Glad it wasn't anything worse, but heed everyone's advice and be cautious. Its easy to get a false sense of security (which I developed) when you experience no problems, even when people tell you to be careful.

Almost all locals I've met here have been robbed at some point, even as I was reporting the incident to the police a few other guys went running by chasing someone, likely for the same thing.

Imperium in Laureles on 33 near Unicentro was a cool spot I went to on Saturday night. I think it's mostly a reggaeton place, so mostly grinding with a bit of salsa. No gringos. Several tables of just chicas (2-5 at each table).

Local guys just walk up to chicas there (everyone's sitting at small tables) do a point-at-her-point-at-you quick motion, she'll immediately get up and put her ass on you. I didn't see this happening so easily in Lleras. I ACCIDENTALLY tapped this girl on the shoulder when I was trying to get our server's attention, and she turned around and I think she started to approach me before I started talking to our server. The guys look all thugged out in rapper outfits/Raiders hats, etc. but are super friendly and will offer Guaro if you get to talking to them.

Due to the layout (all small tables and everything is close quarters), if rolling solo, it might be better to show up earlier, chat some group up and join them if possible. I was in a group myself, but supposedly you have to buy a 1/2 to full bottle to get a table (I showed up late and didn't see any open tables), so that's more incentive to be in a group or join some group. So I don't think you can just get a beer, post up and scope out the scene unfortunately.

Also, I've never been to a city like Medellin where there are 3-5 "birthdays" at every club every night. Are these people getting free drinks or something?

I was thinking the same thing about the birthdays. I think there are a lot of people who only go out on their birthday or something. It was pretty common in the old Mangos.
