This girl texted me in the evening:
Hey *chase, this is anika, :-) you approached me a couple of months ago in the city. how is it going? are you still here? greets :-)
I texted back a few minutes later:
Hey Anika. If I approached you, you probably are a really fine girl... ;-) yes I am still living here, just started a new job last month.
Silence.
I checked my diary to see who that girl is. My entry says 19 years old, business student, solid 9.
How would you proceed? Could be a window of opportunity here.
It is Valentine’s day and she is lonely? Or just validation seeking?
You texted back to quickly.
You have to slow play this sh*t.
All might not be lost, but if a girl gets back to you after months, and you texted her back after a few minutes, you got off on the wrong foot again.

Eh... not a big fan of that response, as you not only giver her validation (you are probably a really fine girl), but also try to validate yourself (just started a new job) and of course the response in a few minutes appears too eager.
I would've either played it smooth, and just said, "Ya, I'm still here for now, what's up?"
Or, been a jackass, "Anika? Hmm, not ringing a bell, I didn't get you pregnant did I!"

These are all good comments. The forum is great. I should have known what you said by now anyway.
But as the G said: All might not be lost. Just got the second text:
"Yes, if you say so, then I probably am really fine :-) You chose a Starbucks, I still remember that. Cool, what kind of job? xo Anika"
It's funny, can't remember anything about her. I'll wait until tomorrow with the reply.

Mistake #1: Ridiculously quick response. As other have pointed out.

Mistake #2: Lavishing praise for no reason and in a thirsty, try-hard, and somewhat lame way to boot.

Mistake #3: Just answered her question. Didn't question her back or create any kind of obstacle to the information like, "remind me where we met again."
Three strikes and you're out. You will never penetrate this girl. It shouldn't be this way, but it is.
All of this said, she was probably going through her old contacts and saw your name. She had nothing better to do and gave you a quick audition. If you'd intrigued her, you might gotten somewhere, but your chances were slim to begin with. You'd be eliminated a long time ago, but got a second shot. Don't expect a third. Seconds are rare enough.

Tuthmosis could very well be right - but I doubt the three strikes rule applies. I think you still have alpha cred because you approached her.
Of course: this is HER wanting attention. So you have to almost dismiss her like a cat. She wants to be petted, you have to wave her off.
You do this by giving UNSERIOUS responses to her questions. There is another thread in here about not giving straight answers. NEVER give straight answers. It means you take her seriously.
So:
Her: "What kind of job"
You: "robbing banks"
That's ALL you write. She will reply fast. Like within a few hours. Then the banter is ON and you play it smooth remember your game 101. Respond to her 3-4 times, then stop.
Contact her again Sunday, ignore her if she contacts you in the weekend. Suggest a meet-up, same-day if possible, because you're headed out to do or see something, she can tag along. Follow Tuth's recipe for 1st date bangs.
A year from now you'll wish you started today
