We want to retire at 60 and not 67 not because we don't want to work but after a certain age you body is becoming so messed up that it's almost impossible to enjoy life(traveling,grandchildren etc..).To many including me it's not fair to ask a guy who works in building trade for 40 years to continue after 60!!Screw those who think the contrary!

You also need to mention that if france hadn't entered the American Revolutionary War to help out you'd be certainly talking with an english accent from yorkshire long before you can think of us talking german.

Americans are arrogant, rude, and believe their shit doesn't smell. They work insane hours to buy things and think this is the good life. Americans believe that vacations are a waste of time and a sign of weakness. Americans think they won WWII single handedly and the other allies, especially Russia, did nothing. Americans forget that one of their most important and vital symbols of freedom, the Statue of Liberty, was made in France and was a gift from that nation.

I think that the movie Midnight in Paris portraits this really well.

The movie shows the open-minded and curious American/Foreigner (Owen Wilson's character) who will obviously like France in oposition to the majority of Shallow and stupid men and women that only care about showing off and a stupid big house in the suburbs , that type will obviously hate France.

Also, listening to French rap (which is quite good), groups like NTM, IAM, Fonky Family and Sniper, you'll see that all is not peaceful in the land of Liberté, égalité, fraternité, especially if you have a name like Said or Mohamed!

Yeah. With respect to immigration, I wouldn't say France can compete with the Anglo world. Within Europe, London reigns supreme as the city to immigrate to and make something of yourself. Their system and culture is far more accepting and open to the world.

If I was concerned with economic mobility and had to live in Europe and just start out somewhere, I'd probably pick the UK, specifically London. As a black man, that's the place where I saw many black men doing well for themselves. Lots of brothers suited up going to work and looking real professional, just like we have in DC, NYC or Atlanta. In the Latin European countries (Spain and France), this was much less the case. I usually saw African men hanging out in parks, either unemployed or working in the informal economy (selling pirated movies, clothing, or w/e).

In the developed world, nothing beats the US (and Canada). Both countries depend on immigration, they just have their unique policies once people immigrate there.

I like both systems.

I actually like the US' immigration policy of assimilation. Extreme nutjobs on the fringes aside, there's a general view that once you come over here (legally), you are expected to be an "American." It doesn't matter where you come from, even if it's a culture that has endured thousands of years throughout many civilizations, you are now just an American. I think that's dope.

Canada promotes multiculturalism, which is also cool. I actually think Canada has done a better job of integrating people in spite of this policy that promotes that people maintain their cultural identities. They lead the developed world in the % of interracial marriages and I've never seen the degree of economic integration--across all income levels--as I have in Toronto. You don't really see that in the US. The higher you move up in the economic strata, the more people look the same. You have entire neighborhoods like that.

In Toronto, I saw evidence of a well-integrated society at every level, even in the historically wealthy neighborhoods.

I think North America is the model to emulate for those countries seeking to promote economic integration on a racial/ethnic level.

With respect to cultural/social integration, I think Brazil leads the pack. They've done an admirable job of making (and embracing) their society as a hybrid of many influences: African, European, Latin, Japanese, etc.

If one was to get arrested in Europe as a foreigner, it would be a bad bad thing. I don't play around with foreign authorities at all and I am sure most travellers share the same sentiment. I don't trust how foreign feds would treat a dude who got out of line. And Americans don't knock out guys who are rude to them as a general rule. If they did, the streets of New York would be littered with unconscious New Yorkers

Finally. Someone not blinded by pussy. The way some of the guys in here chat is like they have never been to France. Oh wait, even Haiti is great if you go there with lots of cash and you stay in a five star hotel. I have TONS of indigenous French friends (born and bred in France) who do not recommend France at all as the place to live.

One of my bredrins schooled in the south of France (not Paris) and he continued to give me the 411 on how mans would return back to uni all draipsed up by the Feds. The further away from Paris you go, the more essential it is that you have to be fluent in French so all that 'did you speak French to them?' theory goes out of the window in terms of behaviour.

However, my aunties had a great time.

Also, I've heard Italy is not the spot either. However, my female cousins have enjoyed themselves immensely. No surprise really, since Italians love chocolate...
