I've always believed it's important to have a creative "purpose" outside of work. Piano has added a tremendous amount to my life over the past 5 years.

Relevant to this forum, it's something that girls (especially in EE/Russia) go nuts for in my experience. It tickles their romantic side, gets the feels going (wine + piano = almost always tears), and they get to live out the fantasy of stripping and laying on top of it in their underwear. Plus sitting on the stool together is AMAZING for escalation.

General piano chat / women-related piano stories welcome.

I have a mini grand and have always held an interest in classical music; however, I simply have never gotten around to learning. What learning source would you recommend?

It would be a shame to not play with such an instrument! You won't regret it.

I would recommend:

1. Get stuck in and start leaning relatively basic versions of pieces that you like. Youtube is great (you can search "synthesia" videos if you can't read sheet music yet). Accept that you will be bad initially.
2. Buy the 3 Hanon books and slowly do everything in there over time (finger exercises, scales, arpeggios - IMPORTANT)
3. Get some sight reading practice books and practice over time
4. Have lessons with a good tutor every so often to keep you on the right track

1. keeps you motivated and enjoying practice.
2,3,4. ensure that you don't waste time along the way. Very important.

I am currently learning this and it's basically all finger training. Bonus: pianist is hot.

There are quite a few strings broken on it and I focus a lot of free time on my businesses, but I was thinking about getting a little keyboard or something with which to practice before falling asleep or something along those lines. Just want to be efficient about it.

Get a teacher, you might find a young conservatory or music school student who's not too expensive and who will teach you the basics from a classical perspective, so you'll develop a proper technique and form, using scales and books like the well-tempered clavier. Once you get past the beginner stage after about 6 months, you can go solo, improve on your own and pick up a few pieces that you really like and that aren't too difficult.

And yes it's devastatingly efficient with the women, but it's also great for your soul.

If you don't like classical music you can try jazz or popular contemporary music, but since you're European, you're culturally predisposed to liking classical, as will be your date. It's one of our civilization's great gifts to the world.

I love it. Every time I open the lid of the motherfucker it makes me humble when you find a new sounds you never thought existed and fill you with all kinds of different feelings and colors.
Reason it's so popular is women is because it's the one instrument every woman wishes they themselves could play.

Can relate. To both things.

Them: "oh I wish I could play piano"
Me: "so learn then - here's what to do"
Them: "oh but <excuse>" ("travel and instagram are easier and give me more validation")

Which sight reading books do you like?

I got a digital piano a few months back and I've been having a lot of fun playing Bach fugues with the voice set to organ. You have to fudge it a bit though since there are no foot pedals to act as a third hand.
