According to Ed Miliband, the Opposition leader in the upcoming UK General Election, the producers of the Bond franchise should pick a woman to play the part next.

Some background. Miliband is the leader of the left-leaning Labour party and has explicitly pledged to bring Socialism back to Britain. That alone should say it all, but they say a picture says more than a thousand words, so here you go.


"This is 2015, I think we can move with the times." he said, after meeting Rosamund Pike. "I think she'd make a great Bond."

Here's one rumination on Miliband's thoughts from Anne Perkins at The Guardian. I won't quote it at length, mainly because I wouldn't want to spoil the joy of reading it for yourself (the term 'casually exploitative', for example. However, this one snippet gives you a hint of the madness within:

This inane fucking bilge about changing very obvious physical features about iconic characters, rather than creating fresh new ones, just so everyone can have their turn, is exactly the sort of shit that I would expect for April Fool's Day - except that every fucking day is April Fool's Day for leftist clowns like these.

Bit of a rant here.

I've been a lifelong Bond fan. Yes, many of the movies were shit, but I always enjoyed the franchise. However, I think it's been losing its luster ever since Daniel Craig took over.

Yes, Casino Royale was very good - one of the best Bond movies, and I understand that the latest few movies have been in some way a reaction to Die Another Day which was ridiculous. However, the reboot has greatly accelerating the trend of surrendering to political correctness all the while making the series somewhat indistinguishable from your generic espionage/action movie. Watch the Connery movies, or even the first three Brosnan movies compared to now and you'll see how much of the romance and luster, everything that made the series iconic, is being lost. I really have no idea why Skyfall received so many good reviews, I thought it was terrible.

So it's a natural evolution to now tamper with the Bond character himself. The movies have been surrendering to political correctness for a while now, so why not surrender the man himself to altar of diversity, and further erase something unique? It's not like so much hasn't already been lost.

But if they tamper with Bond's basic character archetype in any way, I will not ever watch a new Bond movie. That I guarantee. Just another way to rob men (especially white men) of a powerful masculine character in fiction to enjoy.

The Bond brand has been completely bastardized but I don't think it is Craig's fault. He isn't writing the script as far as I am aware.

Yeah, they are making these movies under the Bond name, but they aren't really Bond movies anymore. They aren't much different than any other action movies. The only thing that remains in the name.

Bond movies are dead in my opinion.

I'm a long time Bond fan as well. Got tired of the silliness at the end of the Brosnan era and really enjoyed the reboot with Daniel Craig. Especially in direct contrast to the Bourne movies which were enormously popular, it had gotten cartoonish and was basically verging on self-parody. Die Another Day was the ridiculous conclusion, which was self-referential even more so because it was the 40th anniversary and the writers decided to throw allusions to historical Bond movies in as a salute. Of course it just highlighted the situation.

Anyway, as a longtime fan, I've read all of the books, most several times at least. So when Daniel Craig was cast I initially wasn't even thrilled that he has blond hair (the literary character is very clearly described by Fleming as having dark hair). The occasional 'suggestions' that Bond be black, or now female, are just so much social justice pablum. But feminists have succeeded in remaking Ghostbusters with an all-female cast, so I'm sure they're looking for the next gender warfare scalp to collect instead of just doing the sensible thing and advocating for their own female spy hero.

I've made a point to see every Bond movie in the theater - something I don't do much anymore - to support the franchise, but if they succumbed to this I would not be paying money to support that.

It's no coincidence the new Bond movie has scenes in Mexico and features a 50yr old bond 'girl'.

The U.S. is now primarily filled with Mexicans and middle aged single women. They are simply catering to the audience demographic in the west.
