RE: Woman complains about older men seeking younger women
There's some dating website for people over 50 called "Our Time" advertised on TV. These older women are saying they're tired of guys their age looking for girls in their twenties; that they want men who looking for women who are their age. Sure, there are guys looking for women who are in their fifties - guys who are in their eighties and beyond!

The author of that Guardian column exchanged some Tweets with me. It turns out, she's been reading my blog for quite awhile.

Then, she blocked me on Twitter.

Lulz.

I saw a commercial for that the other day. My first thought was "So basically your dating site is different because everyone on your site is old? what kind of selling point is that?" Then again, I can imagine some people signing up - some men might figure they'll have better chances if they settle for older women, and some women might figure they'll do better without any competition from younger women.

25 year old woman: "Women have to deal with all the unwanted attention from creepers! Male privilege!"

50 year old [single] woman: "Men get all the attention! Male privilege!"

Quote:However, I was rather flattered that she reads my blog and has been for quite some time. Noice! Stella, you’re a peach! You’re flawed and unyielding, but a peach nonetheless. If you weren’t across the pond, I’d have a date with you. Better yet, have The Guardian fund a trip over here to South Florida. The weather must be awful over there right now. We could go to the beach.

I hope you weren't serious about that though.

I think that site is going to have problems with younger gold-digging men taking advantage of those ladies.

She clearly hasn't been on Ashley Madison, I know some post-wall (40's) birds in good shape that regularly bang guys in their late 20's and 30's off AM. They giggle about it.

They get like 200 messages a day. Lets think that 1% of the males responding are desirable. Do the math.

The thirst is real.

I think the joke may have gone over my head. Is this suggesting that Filipinas stop looking for white men once they hit the age of 35?

I'd say that the internet is responsible for 90% of older woman - younger man hook ups. It goes like this:

*Man signs up to dating site;
*Man enters everything he likes into the search parameters;
*The search returns NO-ONE;
*He takes off the qualitative search parameters leaving only quantitative ones;
*He sends off mail for very little return;
*He loosens his quantitative search by widening the age and distance search;
*He hits the market level to his profile when he starts to regularly get messages from women 5+ years older
*He settles

Here is a recent twitter exchange as a response to a rebuttal opinion piece which skewers her article.Whip

That's an excellent article reminding me again how excellent journalism looks like instead of the underpaid hucksters now who have to tow the party line.

Quote:For example, anthropologist John Marshall Townsend and psychologist Gary Levy showed women photos of an ugly guy in a Rolex and business attire and a handsome guy in a Burger King uniform. Women overwhelmingly went for the business lizard over the burger stud.

But back to the guys. Ancestral men could just walk away after sex and still pass on their genes. So men evolved to want to have sex with as many of the most healthy, fertile women they could. And what does health and fertility look like? Well, female beauty: Youth, clear skin, symmetrical features (reflecting health and no icky parasites); long, shiny hair; and a figure that’s more hourglass than beer vat.

The difference in what men and women prioritize in partners is best summed up by my friend Walter Moore. A guy complained to him that women are only attracted to wealthy men. Walter joked back, “That’s so unfair because we don’t expect them to be wealthy; all we ask is that they look like models.”

More on the truth about beauty here, in a piece I wrote for Psychology Today:

“It turns out that the real beauty myth is the damaging one [Naomi] Wolf and other feminists are perpetuating–the absurd notion that it serves women to thumb their noses at standards of beauty. Of course, looks aren’t all that matter (as I’m lectured by female readers of my newspaper column when I point out that male lust seems to have a weight limit). But looks matter a great deal. The more attractive the woman is, the wider her pool of romantic partners and range of opportunities in her work and day-to-day life. We all know this, and numerous studies confirm it–it’s just heresy to say so.

“…A healthy approach to beauty is neither pretending it’s unnecessary or unimportant nor making it important beyond all else. By being honest about it, we help women make informed decisions about how much effort to put into their appearance–or accept the opportunity costs of going ungroomed.

In other words, sure, you can keep moaning about how unfair it is that men are focused on looks. You should find this about as successful a strategy for finding a romantic partner as it would be for a man to complain that women won’t date him until he has a day job beyond lying on his parents’ couch playing video games and complaining about how ‘shallow’ women are.

Sure, there are guys out there who do this. But the main difference between men and women in dating that I see? More men seem to accept the harsh reality — that they have to earn a living and be somebody to get the girl.

So, Stella, to answer the question you ask at the end of your piece:

“The question is, should I be prepared to change?”

Yes, Stella — into somebody who accepts reality and does her best to work within its constraints.

Or, to put it another way: The day men will no longer care about your looks is the day you’ll have the hots for a very sweet 62-year-old barista.

News report today:

http://www.msn.com/en-us/news/other/bill...id=UP97DHP

Billy Joel, who is 69, is now expecting a baby with his 33 year old girlfriend.

Got to love that...this is the kind of story I like.

Gets launched by Christie Brinkley, moves on, and keeps on pronging.

And this is how its done.
