Azul’s Cuba Datasheet

Cuba is a hard place to describe.

Many people that travel to Cuba make statements like “oh, it’s like traveling back to the 1950s!” I didn’t find this to be the case, with the exception of a few old cars I didn’t find much that gave off a 1950s feel at all. If forced to compare Cuba to any era I would say it’s much more like US circa 1998 or so. In late 90’s America cellphone users were still a minority, most homes didn’t have internet access and if they did it was snail speed. Littering was more common and smoking was still a God-given right that could not be infringed. Boxing was more popular than MMA. Most homes had answering machines and TV signals were broadcast in Standard Definition. GPS was limited to military applications. All of these observations are still accurate in 2015 Cuba.

The digital detox I experienced in this country was interesting and I found myself noticeably more relaxed and less anxious without access to a smartphone, GPS and other technology that has become quasi-mandatory in our daily lives.

Language

Caribbean Spanish like Caribbean English can be difficult to understand for the uninitiated. Cuban Spanish has a different rhythm and flavor then you would typically learn in a classroom. Many words get shortened and “S”s can disappear. If you are familiar with DR or PR Spanish you will be okay here.

Politics
For any American the elephant in the room is the US embargo policy against the nation of Cuba. The good news is the Cubans you will run into don’t show any hostility towards Americans. After recent announcements from President Obama about increased cooperation between the two governments the Cuban people are extremely optimistic and curious about American tourists. Many Cubans were predicting an onslaught of American tourists this summer or sooner. Personally I believe this optimism is premature and don’t believe direct flights from major cities to Havana for the average US citizen will happen for several years.

Talent

The looks of Cuban women is similar to other Hispanic Caribbean islands like Puerto Rico and DR. Still there is a certain look that a certain percentage of the population has that is distinctly Cuban. It’s a hard thing to describe but you know it when you see it. Compared to the aforementioned islands Cuban women are lighter on average, the majority of the females I saw were much lighter than I expected and many women could physically pass as Spaniards. Outside of Havana and the extreme eastern parts of the country like Santiago or Guantanamo you won’t see very many blacks.

The average Cuban woman surprisingly has small breasts, a C cup is a rarity there, women heavily pad their bras and no implant culture exists like in South America. Asses are better but forget about Colombia, Brazilian and Venezuelan type Bubble Bootys here with few exceptions.

I noticed some young women here have thin mustaches, something I’ve occasionally seen in other Latin countries. I wasn’t expecting to see as many obese or out of shape women as I encountered. While nowhere near Western levels, still a lot for an island with extremely limited access to cars, fast food and imported candies, sodas, etc. As you can probably tell overall I was not blown away by the women, I generally like the variety of flavors the women have, but it was rare to see a 7 or above. My expectations may have been too high due to having traveled so much of Latina America. If this is your first experience with Latinas you may be in heaven. I found the city of Santiago to be best for black girls, Holguin for white girls, Havana for a mix of both. The city of Santa Clara had the ugliest women I saw on the trip.

Race doesn’t seem to be an issue here when it comes to gaming girls. I saw many local brothas with some of the sexiest white Cuban chicks dressed to the nines. This is something I almost never saw in Latin countries like Brazil that are supposed ‘racial paradises’. Similarly I saw lots of white Cuban dudes with curvy dark chocolate sistas. Asian dudes get love here too. Basically, it’s wide-open.

Growing up I used to watch the movie Scarface and while I understand Tony Montana was a caricature, I still thought local dudes would have a similar swagger and killer instinct with women.

Overall I didn’t see many Cuban dudes running game which surprised me. There was much less of the piropos/cat-calling etc. that I was used to in other Latin countries. Surprisingly I observed almost non-existant levels of machismo among Cuban guys. Maybe this is a result of the socialist ideal where men and women are equals? I have no idea.

Che Guevara

This guy could be a whole article in itself. I knew cubans revered Che as a national hero but I had no idea to how great an extent until arriving in the country. The cult of Che is alive and well, every major city basically has a large shrine to honor the Argentinian doctor turned revolutionary. The Cuban government has elevated Che to the level of a christ-like figure. Expect to see Che's face several times a day, everyday during your stay, whether its in statue, money, poster, t-shirt, graffiti or hat form.

Pros of Cuba

-Most girls haven’t been sucked into the Facebook matrix yet. Most of their personalities are refreshingly laid-back.

-Lack of Smartphones and general lack of cellphones means when you daygame a female you will have her undivided attention (if she’s feeling you).

- Limited access to last minute texting or calling to cancel makes flaking less common. You are actually forced to be true to your word and follow up with your commitments. An ever fading concept in modern times.

-Universal healthcare and a high percentage of doctors lets you rest easy that should you become sick or injured you will be taken care of better than in most third-world countries.

-If you speak great Spanish, have a lot of patient, and carry moneda nacional some things can be extremely cheap.

-Overall friendliness and humbleness of people. Mixing of people of different colors in a way that seemed more genuine than most of the Americas.

-Many talented singers and dancers in this country, many performances are free or so cheap they might as well be free.

-Rum is cheap, smooth and ubiquitious. Gotta love Havana club mojitos.
-If you’re a cigar aficionado, well you’ve come to the right place. Just don’t get scammed.

-Trashy neck tats on women don’t exist here, even the whores are classier than that.

-Cuba is incredibly safe, you could walk around some of the poorest neighborhoods alone as an obvious tourist and not be bothered by any of the locals. I’m not exactly sure why this works. Is it fear of jail? Strong sense of community? I don’t know, but it’s a nice change of pace from countries like Brazil or Colombia where you can’t let your guard down for a second.

Cons

-Smoking is everywhere, even indoors at restaurants. Nothing can destroy a meal more than someone seating 3 feet away casually blowing smoke in your direction. Plus cigs are cheap so the couple at the next table will smoke half the pack by the time your dessert arrives.

-Despite the general cleanliness of most areas people don’t think twice about littering. I’ve seen people riding on the highway chucking beer cans and trash out the window without blinking.

-Dial-up-esque speed internet connection. Waiting, and waiting and waiting for pages to turn for something as basic as checking your email can be frustrating.

-When you make plans to meet a girl somewhere you have to communicate very clearly, specifically when and where. Otherwise you probably won’t see each other, it’s not easy to change plans on the fly, i.e. shoot a last minute text.

-Cuba is still a traditional culture in the sense that they expect the man to be the provider. Going even further, the vast majority of the girls a short time visitor will encounter will expect payment for services rendered after the act. They may give you a story about money for the baby or their sick mother but they still want you the comparatively rich foreigner to pay them.

-Most people are trying to rip you off, from taxi drivers to casa owners. Make sure you have your game face on and great Spanish if you don’t feel like being charged 2-10x the real amount for things.

-I saw many Cuban guys stuff their mouths full of food and chew with their mouths open without even taking the time to wipe their mouths. Completely disgusting.

-Dual-currency system. Cuban Convertible pesos for tourists and national money for locals. Although tourists can technically use national money most don’t. As a savvy traveler I carried both and it was inconvenient carrying around so much cash throughout the day, both use different coins as well as bills. Some places would accept one or the other and some would accept both currencies.

-I came to Cuba expecting terrible food due to what I had read from various sources. In my experience the food wasn’t bad just very hit or miss. There was no rhyme or reason as to what food would be great or what would be bad. You could have an inexpensive meal that was amazing and an expensive meal that was horrible and vice versa. Standouts for me were Lobster, Ropa Vieja, Chicken fricassee and the batido shakes. I was rarely disappointed when I ordered these.

-Food preparation standards vary widely.

-Shortages are a fact of life, I’ve gone to restaurants and found out up to 75% of the menu is unavailable at any given time. Not fancy stuff either, sometimes things as basic as eggs will be out of stock. These shortages go beyond restaurants, most kinds of electronics can be hard to find, bottled water, cards with codes to access the internet and other items may be almost impossible to find at times. Blackouts aren’t bad though, I only experienced 1 or 2 and it passed quickly.

-Nightlife sucks for the most part. Unless you are in Havana and know exactly what place to be at (there is no real central nightlife area) on that particular night don’t expect much. This goes for weekends too outside of Havana, even in Havana many venues will close surprisingly early like midnight or 130am. Compounding the issue of early closing times, many venues will not allow single women in without a male, apparently due to fears of prostitues. I shit you not, it’s an alternate reality where doormen turn away attractive single females. Not surprisingly this results in many clubs being turned into a sausage fest full of local guys. Many women won’t want to be seen walking the streets at night with an obvious foreigner due to the assumption she is a prostitute and can face possible harassment by the police until she can prove otherwise. Also, Sunday night seems to be the unofficial gay night in Havana as groups of flaming homosexuals and trannies hit the city streets en masse.

-Despite the official government censorship and limited internet access you still can’t completely cut out western culture. I remember sitting at a bus stop and cringing upon hearing a group of teenage girls enthusiastically belting out the lyrics to “All About That Bass” in a thick Cuban accent. Be afraid, be very afraid..

[Image: meghan-trainor-iheartradio-music-festiva...ces-03.jpg]

Who I recommend Cuba to:

I believe the kind of guy that will do best in Cuba will:

- speak excellent advanced level or native Spanish,
-have extensive Latin American experience,
-have 2 months or more in country
-have great local contacts
-have plenty of money to spend
-able to pass for Cuban when necessary (Not as difficult as it may sound, Cubans come in many shades)

For the other guys:

Don’t go for the girls.

Go because you are interested in the culture, want to ride in the old cars, hit the beach and smoke Havanas. All of this can be done over a long weekend, no need to stay longer than 4 days.
I’ve only got one restaurant recommendation, a place on Linea in the Vedado neighborhood of Havana called Decameron. Almost every taxi driver in Vedado will know the place, delicious food with hard to find meat dishes, great service and a cool ambience. Prices are reasonable too with most plates under $11.

Did you specifically go there only or was this a leg on a longer trip?

Why did you choose to stop by, just curious? I am guessing the beaches and cigars and knock it off the list so to speak.

Great report. Truthfully its only worth going for the girls if you have a boatload of time to get socially connected. You also need really good spanish as a lot of slang and odd pronounciations are used. 98% of tourists are banging the same hookers / quazi hookers. It really isnt a great place to just hit up for a week or 2 game wise. You also do need money in havana and by that I mean minimum $150/ day if you want to go after the 8+'s in my opinion due to all the costs of taxis, food, cover, rent, drinks etc. A guy with 1500 or 2000 a month in havana will not be living a high end lifestyle whatsoever.

Great Report....I find the women very beautiful.

I agree about Spanish...hardly anybody speaks English.

Cuba Libre is everywhere. Or getting a Mojito at Hemmingway's is not to be missed.

Get invited to a house party in Havana and it is a blast. Taking a Taxi is fun too. The horn is a communication device.

I also think Cubans are some of the most friendly people. Maybe it is the culture and environment but they are so unselfish. I can't say enough good things about the Cuban people.

The report may sound negative but I had fun there too I just tried to portray it as realistic as possible. I feel like I spent longer there than I needed to. A week would have been more than enough time and I would have only focused on Havana if I could do it over.

Americans face additional headaches that could make the trip more challenging. Also i had shitty luck I believe as the weather was extremely cold some days. I saw cubans wearing scarves and not the ironic way a hipster might do it.

Yep, just got back from Cuba and couldn't have written it better myself. This is spot on. Make sure your Spanish is fluent or don't waste your time. I have been to many Latin countries myself and I rank it pretty low for gaming women. Sure they are into Americans and are pretty excited about it, bit if you can't speak the language forget about it. 4 or 5 days is a perfect trip, very safe, old Havana is pretty interesting, and if you can find the right clubs that aren't sausage fest then they are pretty cool. Cuba is a great experience for the culture but average for the girls. If your new to the Latin American experience then I would recommend putting this lower on your list..Overall I'm glad I had a good trip, but next time I want to see some bigger tities.

I've heard that tourists in Cuba have to beware of being sold crappy, counterfeit cigars. How do you know you're getting an authentic Cohiba, H. Uppman, or one of the other quality Cuban cigars?

I'm no cigar aficionado so Im not an expert at spotting the difference but the better quality ones will have an official seal and number stamped from the factory. Pretty much any guy that approaches you first in English to sell cigars should be looked at suspiciously.

Im sure some of the other cuban experts can chime in here.

RE: Azul's Cuba datasheet/impressions
Easy. Do you think a place as controlled as Cuba would allow so many stolen cigars to be sold? I mean every other guy in main tourists parts is selling cigars. If you want real ones buy from places like 5* hotels / cigar shops not from Pedro the guy who speaks english and greets you with my friend. This is going to sound mean but if you are getting invited to cuban house parties etc it usually means you are getting played like a fiddle. Exceptions exist but you aren't real friends with your taxi driver or "guide" or hotel animation staff etc.

Great report Azul, but I'm kind of reading some of the posts with a little skepticism.

Cuban people are so nice on the island, then when they get to Miami they magically convert to assholes?

Not buying it.

Of course people will be nice when they're trying to hustle you, but you have to recognize the hustle.

Speaking of Cuban house parties:

Jariel that was the reason I made the comment about getting played like a fiddle. If people are really nice to you there 99% of the time you are in a pure economic transaction in which they are trying to extract something from you as you are just another yuma take this from someone whose probably spent as much time in Cuba as all rooshvforum posters combined. Until you are one of them which takes exceptional time and effort you dont have friends. I only know 2 yumas with real Cuban friends. One worked at the university of havana. The other has lived there 4 or 5 years and prior to that was taking monthly trips. I make this comment to the people who suggested cubans are the nicest people ever. Heres a trick, the ones that appear interested in talking to you are the ones you dont want as friends. The ones who dont notice you are.

As a side note if you cant identify the musicians on the boombox in the video jariel posted you certainly arent going to get close to finding the good places to go out each night in Havana. As ridiculous as that sounds its true. Massive american tourism if it occurs will hardly affect cuba it will only affect the johns.

Your comment stands out to me because a lot of friends of mine who aren't from a place where there's any substantial Cuban population, they come and visit Miami expecting to see a bunch of Eva Mendes types walking around.

I would say Cuban women on her level would have to be in top 1% of Cuban women. However, when we talk about other types of women, for example, Colombians, those of us very familiar with them know that Shakira is not representative of a hot Colombian -- she's attractive, but if she was at a Colombian club here you probably wouldn't notice her.

While I think men who are attracted to nice bodies, i.e. big butts, thick thighs, etc. can easily find that on Cuban women, of all ages, I don't find them as a whole to be "pretty bitches". Especially now that there are a lot of Venezuelans and Colombians here, they just don't hold a candle to them in overall attractiveness.

There's no doubt that the women come in all shapes, sizes, etc. but for me, I think the average Cuban woman looks something like this (minus the boobs, hers are fake):

I also don't see them as being very stylish and the way they do their makeup, nails, and how a lot of them dye their hair blonde makes them look even less attractive -- you can see that a little bit in the party video.

Me and you are on the same page Jariel. My goal has been to hit all the Latin countries. Venezuela is pretty much all I got left but I'm not exactly rushing to head over there due to all the bullshit going on at the moment. It will likely stay on the backburner for a while.

RE: Azul's Cuba datasheet/impressions
Cuban Looks - I agree that the Cuban women are not as hot in general as some other latin women. However, there is something about women there that is very seductive. The ones that I have met have really stood out. Not necessarily in their looks but in their attitudes, feminine ways, and understanding of men.

I mean sex for Cuban women is just fun. They are very sexual and open about sex.

I know one girl that had two best friends chasing her. She was not a 10 or a 9 (maybe an 8) but these guys were both chasing her. Both of these guys are very successful. Stanford Grads, plenty of women in the States and so on. One friend got the girl into the States but she decided to live in Miami. The other guy grabbed her and left his wife for her. (This guy actually lived on the same lake as Bill Gates).

It's really this refreshing personality that they have. Ever go to a bar down there and some song comes on that they all love? They usually have a dance or something to go with it. Everyone hits the dance floor and starts dancing in unison with the same dance steps. Or go to a Salsa club and see them dance. Cali, Colombia dancers are nothing like the dancers in Cuba.

I don't know where you guys stay but it used to be that local women were not allowed in Hotels. I never stayed in hotels but what they call Casas. Not the same as in Colombia but someones house and you rent a room from them. As Cubans do own their own homes and can make money by renting you a room. One of the Casas the daughter was about 18 and so feminine and great body. But I agree if you are going on pure looks the Cuban women are not as hot. But there are also some real gems there that are maybe an 8 with a 10 personality.

I hear some say that Colombia women are not all that bright. I don't know about that. I have dated some, but it would be the opposite for a Cuban woman.

Cuban Cigars counterfeit? That's problem in the states. You have to check the labels and many will say they are Cuban but they can't be. Some people don't understand that you can't sell Cuban cigars in the States. A lot of companies rip off Cuban names because they know Cuba can't and won't do anything. But as far as getting them in Cuba it is easy. There are cigar shops all over the place. You don't have to buy off the streets.

I think my standard for women are different as it's not just looks. I don't necessarily prefer a 10 over an 8. I may have had a different experience that some there but I always have a blast because I like the people and the spirit of the place.

I have to say if you go to Havana you have to have a Mojito at Hemmingways. It's just a small place and they make it on the table in front of you. I have had plenty since and never as good as the Mojitos at Hemmingways.

I get the impression you are talking very general about Miami-Cubans as opposed to Cubans on the island. Remember many Cubans who go abroad have first got abroad based on skill / education that made them desirable for a mission. After that they often make a run to the US.

Group dancing is exceedingly uncommon except at perhaps the most touristy places. (I'm not talking 1 on 1 group dancing but everyone dancing the same steps)

2 exceedingly rich men who were best friends fell in love with the same girl there then one is with her then the other marries her? Sounds like a novel.

Most Cubans have very little world knowledge and hence, will not appear exceedingly bright on the island.

Hemmingways is the type of place you take a group tour to. Perhaps you went to Cuba on a people to people trip? This would heavily skew your experience as you'd be extremely isolated from the real Cuba even if you are walking right past ordinary Cubans.

RE: Azul's Cuba datasheet/impressions
Good report! Glad you had a chance to check out a few cities in Cuba.

Cuba hosted their first Triathlon last month as part of the ITU. I always wanted to do a race in Havana...next year!

I will hopefully go back in April for a small vacay...can't wait!!!

I hear some say that Colombia women are not all that bright. I don't know about that. I have dated some, but it would be the opposite for a Cuban woman.

I have to say if you go to Havana you have to have a Mojito at Hemmingways. It's just a small place and they make it on the table in front of you. I have had plenty since and never as good as the Mojitos at Hemmingways.

I'm not sure what you mean by Miami Cubans. Do you mean the girl? My friend went through a lot of paperwork to get her here with a Visa. As for the way things turned out for her...yeah I didn't go into the whole thing b/c it would be a novel. ( A lot of us told him not to do it.)

Everyone dancing the same steps. This was not a tourist place. In fact this was a small place outside of Havana. Been there 12 times and it is out in the country.

Hemmingways is a great place to check out. I never did any group tours there. I just like it.

How about Havana Club? Have you been there? I didn't go there on a tour but I have been many times to enjoy the different Rums and people watch at the Cafe. (Now those bottles we have gotten back. It's the cigars that are a problem)

We actually know people there that have relatives in the the States. We stay with them and travel around with them and explore the Country with them and stay in their homes. We worked together with them too.

We worked with several nonprofits and explored not only Havana but also many towns and areas outside of the City. Been doing that for the past 13 years.

Personally I think it is such a unique place that everyone should experience it before it changes. I don't think there is any place like it. A great travel book about the country I suggest is Mi Moto Fidel: Motorcycling Through Castro's Cuba.

So, this is a great report. However, You didn't write much about your own interactions with women. Was your game effective? What kind of game do you think is effective there? Did you get a flag? For me, this is the one factor that will heavily skew my view of a place. If I score, my own ratings of a place will be dramatically higher than if I crash and burn, even though some of this comes down to random chance. What were the attitudes toward sex? Do Cuban women engage in casual sex? Do they make out easily, like in Brazil? Or are they Argentine-level prudes? Do they drink heavily? Did you have success day-gaming? Do they tend to drink alchohol on the beach like Brazilian girls? What's the club scene like? Do people dance until 4AM?

RE: Azul's Cuba datasheet/impressions
Cuba isn't about game to be quite honest except in a few small pockets of society. It's not only about being a provider it's probably moreso about fitting in. Woman do not kiss quickly like Brazil except perhaps hookers. Casual sex does indeed happen but it's more likely people have a stream of relationships as in Cuba about 99% of people with mommy and daddy or their grandparents. Hence, if you are around tourists it may seem tons of people are having casual sex but that moreso has to do with the fact they are interacting with pro's or what might as well be defacto pros. Whats more common is a string of relationships be it short or long. Most Cuban woman hardly drink. People arent drunk when you go out.

Nightclubs are heavily hooker oriented.

Damn, those girls are built like 13 year-old boys. Gross. No hips and no booty. Is that normal for Cuban women?

Yeah, most of them don’t seem to have access to a gym (or enough food). To witness the full potential of Cuban women, head to South Florida.

So now that trump has made it so Americans can't visit Cuba again, can Americans just show up like before and they don't stamp our passports? Or is there something specific to say?

I had this same question. I heard the answer is yes, you can just show up and they will not stamp our passports. I hope this is the case, as I'll be going to Cuba this fall...)
