'1 in 3 men would rape', feminist survey trashed in media

Certain feminists were almost gleeful Monday when they discovered a “study” that seemed to confirm their worldview that a large chunk of the male population just want to rape.
The biggest problem with that study is that the researchers surveyed just 86 men (who received extra credit for their participation) at a single university in North Dakota. And the answers of just 73 men were used for analysis because the researchers discounted missing data and one man whose answers confused them (he said he would rape but not use force to obtain intercourse).
This study of a tiny sample (the University of North Dakota, where the study was conducted, has a student population of over 15,000), found that one-third of analyzed participants (23 guys) had “intentions to force a woman to sexual intercourse.”
Thirteen percent of the survey participants (nine guys) actually said flat out that they would rape a woman. People who have been pushing for universities to play court and condemn men based solely on accusations may read that number and believe 13 percent of men want to rape. Even in a world where college men take everything seriously, nine guys does not equal a mass epidemic of would-be rapists. A more sound reading is that nine college boys didn’t take the survey too seriously.
The study is further tainted because it begins with a false premise — the often-repeated but thoroughly debunked statistic that one in five women will be raped during their college years. Researchers also “debriefed” participants after the study by “address[ing] rape myths.” Given the researchers' propensity to believe the one-in-five myth, it’s anyone's guess what sort of “rape myths” they were addressing and whether they were myths or just facts.
The study’s lead researcher, Sarah Edwards, an assistant professor of counseling psychology, told Newsweek that her study shows men would rape if it's not called rape. “The No. 1 point is there are people that will say they would force a woman to have sex but would deny they would rape a woman,” Edwards said.
This lead to pearl-clutching headlines such as Jezebel’s “1 in 3 college men admit they would rape if we don’t call it rape” and Cosmopolitan’s “Study: 1 in 3 men would rape if they wouldn’t get caught or face consequences.”
Cosmo brings up an interesting point, surely unintentionally raising a question that is more ancient than universities themselves and appears in Plato's Republic. How many people would break any law if they knew they could get away with it? How many seemingly just people could you get to say they would steal or even murder if there was no chance of being caught — if they were given a ring that made them invisible?
Which brings up another problem with the study: Saying you would do something bad if there are no consequences is not the same as doing those bad things. How many people say they’d love to tell off their boss but never do?
This is another case study in eye-catching, outrage-inducing headlines with no substance to back them up. The study’s note that this was “only a first exploration of this topic” and that future studies could further prove (or disprove) the findings indicates a possible desire for grant funding.
Edwards did not respond to a Washington Examiner inquiry prior to press time.
I saw this when someone linked to an article about UVA fraternities.
Author of both articles:

Yes, I would too.
But let's not get distracted, she's promoting the article on her twitter page: https://twitter.com/asheschow and she seems to be quite the contrarian, writing plenty of articles that contradict feminism and other popular(blue-pill?) ideas.
So, some feminists did a survey of 86 people, and came up with the claim that '1 in 3 men would rape' if they could get away with it, or some similar crap. The participants were awarded extra credit for taking part.
Get a quick idea of the survey here: http://online.liebertpub.com/doi/full/10...4.0022#_i6
If you google 1 in 3 college men would rape you'll see the variation in reporting. I'm guessing that Washington Examiner is not a major publication. Cosmopolitan and jezebel however, are reporting the survey in a different way(obviously), as rape-culture propaganda.
Archive of jezebel article: https://archive.today/bcIXt
The amount of smaller outlets reporting this story for the bullshit it is, is encouraging. It is possible the UVA rape hoax was a push too far and more people might be starting to question the feminist dogma that proliferates in media today.
Hopefully one of our more articulate members can dissect this better than I have done.

Our crew should do a follow-up called '4 in 5 American women would divorce-rape'.

RE: '1 in 3 men would rape', feminist survey trashed in media
The biased, ill-conceived study spoken of in this article is the latest variation of the "All men are rapists and that's all they are" concept.
This is a quote from feminist Marilyn French from her 1978 novel "The Women's Room." In full: "All men are rapists and that's all they are. They rape us with their eyes, their laws and their codes." Source.
Rape is a violent crime that only a small subset of men do. In fact, most men would be incapable of even getting an erection while a woman was violently flailing away and screaming.
By claiming all men (or most men) are ready and willing to commit this crime is a way to attempt to criminalize masculinity itself. And while they can't make manhood illegal, we see the effects of this with the anti-boy rules in our schools, the maze of anti-harassment laws in our workplaces, and places like Vimeo, who banned Krauser and his PUA ideas but allow all sorts of degeneracy from females.
This is pretty paranoid and tyrannical. Just the sort of irrationality that lawmakers in the days of old worried about when they decided women should not have the vote.
The article linked here explains why the study is flawed better than I can. But there is no explanation as to why the mainstream media ran with it -- except for what I just wrote above.
If women are going to characterize us all as rapists, then they deserve to be called irrational hysterics in return.

RE: '1 in 3 men would rape', feminist survey trashed in media
The article mentions a few of these points but let's break it down from the start. First of all, "intentions to force" is an incredibly vague and useless term, and doesn't necessarily entail rape.
Secondly, the questions are based on an impossible hypothetical, namely that there would be no consequences and no one would ever find out. If you asked 100 people whether they might punch someone in the face IF there would be no consequences and no one would ever find out, you'd get a very high positive response. However, does that mean those respondents intend to commit assault and battery? No. Does it mean they're likely to become violent criminals? Of course not, and no one with half a brain (especially not a serious pollster) would make such an idiotic conclusion.
Finally, since the questions are predicated on an impossible hypothetical, the responses are effectively in the realm of fantasy, not anything related to actual behavior. Given we're now looking at fantasy, it seems only fair to look at female responses to similar queries: From 1973 through 2008, nine surveys of women's rape fantasies have been published. They show that about four in 10 women admit having them (31 to 57 percent) with a median frequency of about once a month. Actual prevalence of rape fantasies is probably higher because women may not feel comfortable admitting them.
In other words, all this study proves (if it proves anything, given the limited pool of respondents) is that women fantasize about rape far more frequently than men do.

This conspiracy of men going around wearing black cloaks and gathering around under the school facilities discussing how they can rape women, is just ridiculous. Especially the men you see around college campuses nowadays, they lack testosterone and couldn't even get it up to have normal sex with a woman, let alone pin one down in an alleyway and ravage her.
Of course a lot of people realise this is nonsense, but the point is that not many people openly disagree with them. And the most respect papers and media outlets in the Western world are constantly regurgitating this nonsense.
"Why do these feminists hate men so much ? Really has to be question asked."
Envy. Specifically penis envy. Some women can't take the fact that the ENTIRE WORLD (look out the window) was built and designed by men and they just live in it.
This irks them and they get a huge inferiority complex, which is why they go insane when you "mansplain" -- because it means you know more, and why they've re-jigged schools to benefit girls and girls only.
As I said before, when I studied Freud in Psych 101, I didn't get how brilliant he was and thought "Penis Envy" was ridiculous. It takes a few years of living in the world and experiencing life to understand this stuff.

This girl who I would rate a solid 8 (fantastic fucking ass) ended up spooning naked with me right as I was about to slip it in her.
My boner is at maximum capacity, and all of a sudden she's teary eyed and spurts out, "The first time I ever had sex it was in this position. I was 13, and I told him to stop. He didn't stop... I cried for him to stop."
My boner deflated instantly.
I don't know what it was in her that pushed her to confide in me like that, and I had no idea what to say. I consoled her and paid for her cab home.
The point of my story is this: rape is not sexy. I'm game for rough sex, but actually raping a girl is fucked up. I sincerely hope that girl got some help or has learned to cope with her situation better, but despite what feminists think, not once have I thought "wow, what a great day to go out and rape."
Junk science.

Good story. We could probably do an entire thread on "boner loss" when something spooked us during sex. Something far less than a woman kicking and screaming. There is a reason Viagra sells so well. Here are a few of mine:
* Cork unexpectedly popped out of a wine bottle and I thought it was gunfire.
* Phone rings at too late an hour and I assumed it was an emergency.
* "Did you hear that downstairs?! Someone's breaking in!" Turned out it was the dishwasher changing cycles. I didn't realize she'd turned it on earlier.

This. Drives me crazy when articles on surveys expect you to mindlessly accept some canned interpretation of the results, often the words of an ideologically driven researcher who's invested in coming to a certain conclusion.
That's precisely how the '1 in 5' myth came about, from a survey that counted any drunken sex as rape.
