They'll have the fanciest cable machines and cardio equipment you've ever seen, but good luck finding a barbell. I think it's probably because of potential damage to the floors.

I do OHP on the squat rack if it's available. I don't do barbell curls on the squat rack however.

Yet, I still don't see what is wrong with doing that though, it seems it is a common trend. Can anyone enlighten?

I explained why I do it earlier; it's simply easier to lift a 80kg (what I curl at the moment) bar off the safety bars of the cage than to do curls than lift it off the floor.

I do the same for my bent over rows and shrugs too. I'm tall and don't see the point in potentially putting my back out lifting a heavy bar from the ground. As I said before, all of my gym injuries have come from moving weights around especially after finishing a heavy set.

The other thing that's relevant is that at my gym if I am using a barbell there is a cage without a bar which nobody else can use anyway.

I really fail to see the problem...

That's some serious weight, is that a strict curl? Even if not, you don't see that everyday (at least not at my gym).

No, not strict at all; strict enough not to get injured though. 60kgs is about my limit for strict curls these days; oddly enough the same weight I could do as an 18 year old with zero weight training. If I knew then what I know now etc etc....

I am naturally very strong and genetically lucky when it comes to raw power. To be honest I think I could have competed in strongman competitions if I'd so chosen.

The flip side of this is that I put on fat very very easily too sadly; it's a constant battle!

There was this couple, the guy was using wrist straps on the lat pulldown machine, and his girl was helping him pull the bar down because he insisted on loading like 3/4 of the entire stack! I wish I had taken a video. What the fuck?! Who does that? Of course the other lat pulldown machine was being used by some walking meatball of a girl who was in a training session. Not her fault; but why the hell would a trainer get some fat girl doing lat pulldowns? Throw her ass on an elliptical or stairmaster for a week straight followed up with 6 months of squats and lunges. Save the lat pulldowns for when she's lost that 20lb chunk of flab around her waist.

haha You need to start meditating, Man.

I know, I'm just like this a lot of the time. I have a pretty intense judgemental voice running commentary in my head all the time. The pros is I have an intense attention to detail and pick up minutia that I think a lot of people don't, I'm able to read people, I hear details in music and see details in visual art to a fine detail.

The con is constantly picking things apart and judging people's behavior. Kind of why I got into game in the first place and not be such a social weirdo haha

^ What you've described above (i.e. "pretty intense judgmental voice running commentary in my head all the time") is exactly what meditation takes care of. And I believe it would still preserve the intense attention, most likely even fine-tune it.

I've been slacking on it lately, and it's shockingly noticeable how much easier I'm irritated by small things. The different between my mind on a minimal 10 minutes a day and on nothing is stark.

This is perhaps a non-lifter conversation, so apologies to everyone if we're getting off track.

Then again, perhaps it's not.

I can also be like this. I think I'll have to finally get round to giving meditation a try. Cheers.

Damn guys.....I finally got my grip4orce in the mail...holy shit.

I've been working out very lightly, my wrist has still be acting up, but today I was able to push it and my forearms got a great pump from using these. Definitely recommend getting these or building your own fat grips.

This winter has dealt me 3 consecutive weeks, looking like a month straight, of only hitting the weights 3 times a week.

While I've been getting tons of sleep and eating Ok, just less, the health conscious side of me is beginning to permanently hate the holiday season and the way it subdivides my time against my wishes.

My goal was to stack on 15 lbs. this winter, and I've remained the same because cooking enough of the right food has fallen by wayside to an oddly congested holiday schedule this year. Pisses me off.

I have been trying to get my curl over 110 pounds for a while now. That's a pretty impressive curl you have there.

It's one of those lifts that dudes tend to complain about, but for elbow rehab it's tops.

That is annoying. I always thought it was just avoiding risk though. A lot of people don't know how to lift free weights. Plus imagine children.

Well... I finally get to 225 on the Bench Press today. After many efforts, and about now 2 years of lifting. I would of gotten there sooner but, I really don't focus on flat bench. It is a awkward movement for me because of my long arms and I prefer to use dumbbells, and I also prefer the incline as I get better muscle tension that way versus flat. I will say that OHPs greatly pushed ahead my flat bench. I had a golden OHP workout in the rack today getting 155 for reps and decided to try a max on the flat for fun and the 225 was very doable, and did it three times just to make sure.

Got 110kg push press (standing) on monday so I will see how this progresses over the next few months. Slacking on bench because of pressure build up in my right shoulder. I don't really care about bench.

Had to swap out front squats as I was getting annoyed by being stuck on 160kg for 1 rep and then being tired from work just compounded the issue. That and a niggling knee pain on my left because I was leaning to far forward. Wear and tear can be annoying but I am working legs hard still.

RE: Lifter's Lounge
Just to mix things up, three weeks ago I switched my reps from the 8-12 range to the 25-30 range and using a slower tempo. For dumbbell bench press I was using 80lb. (36kg) dumbbells for 3 sets of 10 reps and a fourth set to failure, usually 7-8 reps. Now it's 3 sets of 25 reps at 55lbs (25kg). Holy shit is it tough! On the third set I could only manage 15 reps before quitting. It's much harder than you'd expect and more of a mental test.

The same for front squats. Before it was 3 sets of 15 reps at 135 lbs (61kg). Now it's 3 sets of 25 reps at 115lbs (52kg). The first set was manageable. The second set was agonizing. Midway through the third set I was screaming for Jesus to save me before quitting at 15 reps.

I'll keep up this routine for 3 months. I'll be curious to see how strong I am when returning to a 8-12 rep routine.

Have any of you guys tried a high rep routine for any length of time? What were the results? There are plenty of online articles about hi rep routines and some bodybuilders use it as a change of pace.

Try and avoid front squatting for many reps. Front squats should really be a staple of maximum strength building which includes low reps 1-3 or 5 ata stretch. If you can do 25 reps with front squats your body is just going through the motions. The way the front squat works is that it tires the muscles involved which help you keep a straight back.

If your back becomes rounded a lot on front squats you can injure yourself.

You can injure yourself just as easily with heavy weight and a 1-5 rep range. It also depends on the type of workout and goals. One of the points of doing front squats is that there is little room for rounding the back, unlike back squats which put greater stress on the spine. You round the back on front squats and you'll dump the bar. I've been doing them for approximately 10 years and have yet to suffer an injury from them.

Some people put shoulders with legs, some do them on push day. I do them on push day because you're hitting them already, so throw in some over head press and maybe an isolation movement or two.

I've been grinding on the overhead press for months and can't seem to add weight to it. My delts and back get bigger and swoler, but the weight just does not go up.

I haven't suffered from an injury but to say you cannot round your back is laughable. I've done it a few times and so have plenty of others.

When you're at the limit of front squatting your upper back can round if you tire or cannot hold it. You don't dump the bar that easily unless you want too.

Do you have a spotter?

I was thinking of substituting in the push press instead of the strict OHP since it allows you to use more weight, probably providing extra stimulation when lowering the bar.

If only you knew how bad things really are.
