Ever thought about getting a dawg or a couple big tom cats? They could keep all the varmints off your porch.

I have a chocolate lab who'd love to get in on this but I've had some experiences with hunting dogs fighting with wild animals so I don't let him as for cats..I hate them

Now and again when you are drinking go pee around the porch. It helps keep away wild animals. The wildlife thinks you are beta cause you haven't marked your territory.

.22 short will do it then. Just keep in mind if you're using it in an automatic, it may not always cycle the bolt. If you're using a bolt action, you'll never know the difference except for the sound....

Colt 1911 is my favorite In my collection; it points naturally, makes big holes, and the weight makes recoil manageable. Plus you could bludgeon somebody with it should you run out of ammo... It's a classic still kicking 100+ years later

What the hell would you do with it -- aside from home defense or the zombie apocalypse? My old school police surplus Winchester riot gun, loaded with 00-buck, does the same job. I think I paid $100 for it or thereabouts. I've owned it forever.

I keep several Smith & Wesson .357 magnum revolvers loaded and ready to go. Those are my in-home interim weapons, until I can reach the shotgun.

Having tons of fun with my new Ruger Mini 14 and my Mosin Nagant (my first gun) will always have a place in my heart, but the Walther PPK is my absolute favorite. Good enough for Archer and Bond, good enough for me.

Looking at it closely, the receiver appear to be from a WW2 Thompson SMG...then a bunch of parts were stuck to it.

I own quite a few firearms like most any native Texan

My favorite handgun is my Ruger Superblackhawk single action .357. I picked up 2 of them when I got into cowboy action shooting and fell in love with how well they shoot, not only that you can fire .38 special, .38 +p, and change out the cylinder to fire 9mm. They are so accurate you could hunt with these things.

My favorite conceal carry is my Ruger LCR357 with a lazermax, imo nothing beats a wheel gun for self defense. I usually carry it with 38 special for the reduced recoil, 357 in this thing kicks like a mule.

My favorite fun gun that really has no use is my Saiga 410 with a slidefire stock and 30 round drum. It is just pure ridiculousness

What you say regarding reliability issues is mostly true, at least back in the day, but Colt produced the M-16 not the Springfield Armory. I have never heard that.

You are correct, Colt was the main producer. Though there were others, I never heard of Springfield making one (though they did make M1 and M14 rifles). What Checkmat refers to is a lot of misinformation about problems that mostly had to do with the crappy ammunition and early production faults of the M16 system. Most of those problems were worked out very quickly and the M16/M4 platform is pretty reliable and versatile nowadays.

That said, weapons are like golf clubs - there is no one weapon correct for every shot, yet it's usually impractical to carry a golf bag full of weapons for any situation. I like it, but it isn't the only one in my bag of tricks.

I concur. I have three .357 magnums concealed around the house. Two S&W's and a Ruger. No reliability issues. No safeties with which to fiddle. No springs. No potential jams. Just point and shoot. I love the revolver.
