Quantification of the sexual inequality in different countries
You have probably seen economic analyses along the lines of: In the USA, the top 5% of earners have 80% of the wealth.

Has anyone ever calculated this fort he sexual marketplace? I imagine it goes something like this

Every year, how many sexual partners do men aged 18-55 in the USA have?
For the bottom 25% of men in the USA I would guess zero.
For the middle 60% of men, 1 sexual partner per year.
For the next 10% of men, 2 a year
The next 4% 2-5 a year
And the top 1% 5+ a year.

These are rough guesses, where do you think the cutoff line for being in the top 1 percent of men would be? If there are 100 million men in the USA aged 18-55, my guess would mean that 1 million men have sex with more than 5 women a year, which actually seems like I am over estimating the amount of players out there...

Got to remember that many of the women they sleep with also sleep with multiple other men..

I imagine with women the distribution is more even. Fewer women go without sex at all, and fewer enter high numbers of partners a year.

I imagine that the top 5% of men are getting something like 50% of the "new" sex in this country.

Ie. if you are fucking your girlfriend of 3 years, you aren't getting "new" sex that year. Do you think it's unreasonable to imagine that 5 million men are responsible for the sexual experiences of 50 million women? That a relatively small group of men is getting about half of the casual sex out there... I am unsure if this is off, in either direction.

I know this isn't exactly what you're looking for, and I might have a proper dig around later, but...

*Males 30-44 report an average of 6-8 female sexual partners in their lifetime (Mosher, Chandra, & Jones, 2005).

*Females 30-44 report an average of 4 male sexual partners in their lifetime (Mosher, Chandra, & Jones, 2005).

*3% of men have had zero sexual partners since the age of 18, 20% have had 1 partner, 21% have had 2-4 partners, 23% have had 5-10 partners, 16% have had 11-20 partners, and 17% have had 21 or more partners (Laumann, Gagnon, Michael, Michaels, 1994).

*3% of women have had zero sexual partners since the age of 18, 31% have had 1 partner, 36% have had 2-4 partners, 20% have had 5-10 partners, 6% have had 11-20 partners, and 3% have had 21 or more partners (Laumann, Gagnon, Michael, Michaels, 1994).

*20% of American men and 31% of American women have had one sex partner in their lifetime (Laumann, Gagnon, Michael, Michaels, 1994).

*56% of American men and 30% of American women have had 5 or more sex partners in their lifetime (Laumann, Gagnon, Michael, Michaels, 1994).

I'm deeply skeptical about many figures relating to this field, mostly because there's likely to be a number of biases relating to self-reported numbers, so read into the above with a pinch of salt.

Note for statisticians: I don't have the time right now but it should be possible to create distribution curves using some of these figures for inter/extrapolation, but you can probably picture these in your head.

These numbers seem like they give you a sense of the pattern of distribution at least. To arrive at true numbers, do you think we should just accept mens estimates as an upper bound and female estimates as a lower bound?

44% of men have had 4 partners or less in their lifetime.
67% have had less than 10.

So 1/3 of adult men in the USA have more than 10 lifetime partners. Does that pass the smell test?

I think the top end, the top 1%, is above 10 per year

I'm sorry to say that I don't think this would be fair because it relies on two assumptions:

* The variance is approximately equal for men and women
* The variance in self-reported values tells you something about the true variance.

Males between ages 30 - 44 have 6 to 8 partners and women of the same age 30 - 44 report 4 to 6 partners.

I am sorry stats are BS, women aren't honest about how many partners they have had. In my experience women never have much of a downtime between men, that is an average women.

I think a lot of you guys would be shocked at the true nature of most women.

That's an interesting theory but men and women's self-reported answers are likely to be inaccurate to similar degrees.
