Where would you go with $25k?
Let's say you got laid off from work, have plenty of emergency funds in the bank and want to use $25k for a year of fun (not vegas partying fun, but living outside of the U.S. and gaming women full-time). Understand $25k is not THAT much, but where would you go and how would you do it?

If it's not obvious, I'm looking for ideas on how to take a year or so off and live off about $25K.

Thailand for three months.

Then decide where to finish the year.

It depends on what you like.

I personally would hit trinidad and tobago for carnival in february, cancun springbreak in march, santa semana in april in DR, hit jamaica in august, July i would hit spain and Portugal, January carnival in puerto rico, etc.

I wouldnt spend more than 2k per location and wouldnt stay for more than a month or less than 2 weeks..but it really depends on what you like.

pitt has a good plan. But $25k will get eaten up too fast in the western world if you intend to sustain yourself for a year. Thus I would keep to SE Asia and latin america.

For some reason I've always had this idea that Latin America is more expensive than Asia. That is a really inappropriate statement to make because Latin America ranges from Rio Penthouses to favela shitholes and Asia ranges from Tokyo gated communities to Cambodian farmland.

To anyone who has been to both Thailand and Colombia, how do the two stack up in terms of cost of living?

How far would 2K USD a month get me in Medellin?

@YMG

Colombia like most places depends on you want. You could get by easily on 2K.

Just to give you an idea you can get a room in a house /apt for $120 a month. Thats not gonna be in a good area but its an option.

Average room will run you about $250

Street food & mom&pop corner cafes are freaking cheap.

Im not sure how much rooms and rents run in Thailand though...

If staying in one country for a year it would come down to what language I wanted to learn. In a year you could be doing pretty well with Spanish in Latin America. I'm planning a year off myself next year:

My only advice is to find another outlet than only chasing tail. I've been on a few long runs off and the money ran out quick. It's easy to get bored and lose financial discipline. Next year I'll try to soak up approx. 40 hrs a week between studying classes, language, and culture, hopefully curving the rock star monster within.

I agree with Aliblabla - language-oriented travel is a great idea.

I concur that I would want to go somewhere where I could fcuk a lot and learn the local language..a language that would be useful for me going forward..

I think Spanish wins in my books, I know a fair bit of French but French countries don't really have women that let off as easy as Latin women..

That depends on how you define good.

I could rent out a cheap room in Rochina favela and party it up with the remaining money drinking, dancing, and smashing women every night. And thats after spending the day chilling on the beach!

I've been planning on Poland for awhile now, but am starting to consider adding South America to the list. Never, ever for the life of me even considered it before...but Columbia is sounding gooood.

I'll personally try to live as frugal as possible to preserve capital. Don't need to eat out and spend money on misc bs that I can't take with me when I leave. Live cheap among the locals is what I want to do.

livingincebu forum is a good site to pinpoint cost of living in the Phils, as well as places to stay, ect. Pinays are great in bed.

The Phils are very cheap and the girls are hot and easy as pie. Love that place and thinking of living there one day.
