Have you done anything which you're supposed to enjoy, but actually found a bit shit? I've had a few.

Versailles, France



Incredible place, but ruined by hordes of camera-wielding tourists. This place gave me an irrational dislike of Chinese tourists wherever I go, they were barging past everyone, noisy rude and made the experience draining and unenjoyable.

Full Moon Party, Thailand

I realized when I was there that it seemed silly to come to a place like Thailand only to surround myself with thousands of smashed Westerners, passing out all over the place. Too many people, if you lose your friends forget about seeing them again that night. Same with if you meet a girl and separate, it's unlikely you'll bump into her again.

I'm glad I experienced it, but I wouldn't rush back. I was only 20 and travelling on my own so it was good to throw myself in the deep end however.

Versailles is over hyped, 40 minute train ride, long lines, people everywhere, parts are blocked.

Or maybe I just went in shitty weather, a cold day in March.

Copenhagen, Denmark

I thought I was see tall beauties everywhere, instead I saw chubby hipsters who acted like men.

Packs of Chinese tourists can ruin pretty much anything.

Sydney Opera house is underwhelming. They need to replace the tile on the roof, so yellow and old looking.

Alton Towers, UK - the amusement parks in North America and Japan (and elsewhere probably) outshine it grandiloquently.

Fabric, London - a famous club for EDM. It probably would have been more fun on drugs, but I didn't have any.

Nightlife in Paris. I don't doubt there's good spots but if you don't know someone locally to take you to these places, for the average visitor I think the scene can be kinda difficult. This is also partially due to all the 6'10, 350lbs bouncers looking for an excuse to fight.

Máncora, Peru - this is meant to be paradise by the beach. I found instead shallow, coked-up Germans.

Machu Picchu itself. Full of the worst kinds of tourists.

Now the hike to Machu Picchu over four days with access to untouched Incan ruins and mind-blowing views at 13,000+ feet? Mindblowing.

Machu Picchu is probably better during the rainy season, which probably corresponds with the off-season - go when the crowds are less.

Wayna Picchu just above it is better. Just go, and go all the way to the top. Not many people can make it up. The sight of the rivers, valleys, and clouds below are one of life's truly unique experiences.

Not sure where you went, but I couldn't disagree more. Kyoto is an amazing city with beautiful temples everywhere, great Japanese food, traditional Japanese art and crafts, historical streets with bars that have been operating for 100s of years...it goes on and on. Shame about the people though...not exactly the friendliest in Japan.

I've never heard of Kyoto trying to be like Tokyo. Kyoto is the cultural capital of Japan. Tokyo is for business.

Sydney,Australia

The most hyped up place in the Nordics. Yeah yeah,the new years eve at the Sydney Harbour Bridge was cool but Australia is by no means worth the money if you are not a guy with high income.

People are paying a lot of money to travel Australia, to get rid of their money even faster.
If you even mention "Australia" everybody think it's so damn cool. Especially young girls attentionwhores a lot about it but even guys. It seems like people are going to Australia only so they can share on facebook. " tickets booked to Australia"

@Chaos. I've been in Thailand for 3 months, 2 photos posted. Saw some friends on Facebook from highschool here for 3 weeks, over 100. And of course its all the "unique" and "original" Thai stuff like taking photos with monkeys on the beach. Chang beers and of course, Elephant riding.

I also agree with Australia. Way too damn expensive for what you get. My friend moved out there a while back. His tiny apartment he shares with a fatty is like $250 a week and he's constantly broke.

Traveling is underwhelming in general these days as it became mainstrean as facebook kicked in .....
Places that are still cool are usually shunned upon by feminist westernized media and guide books like lonely planet and typical soap dodging underarm having moustache borderline dykes travelers ......
I once heard a swedish backacker girl say she hates patong beach because its full of thai girls chasing white guys and loved phiphi because she was the one been chased by white guys.
Dont goto some expensive hellhole where women are hard to get like sydney go instead to cebu in the philipenes where you get bang for you buck

Pretty much any all inclusive resort or cruise ship. I went to Jamaica and stayed at an all inclusive resort. All I can tell you about Jamaica is it has some nice beaches and pretty landscapes. Same with the cruise I took the the Bahamas. Cruises and all inclusive resorts=2/10 WNB, would not buy.

Yeah, I fell in the trap aswell. As a newbie traveller I went to Australia because everybody said it was sooo cool. Well it had it great moments, but after been traveling to SEA and China and Russia, Australia bored the fuck out of me and I lost a lot of unecessary money.

Lesson learned.
No hate, I think most people who goes to travel in Australia has no idea of how long the same amount of money would last in SEA. I guess we all have to do mistakes to learn.

But I will never sit 20+ hours in a airplane only to get to Australia and then drive 2000km just to see a stone ( Ayers Rock) and drive 2000km back to find a place where I have to PAY for wifi to upload photos on Facebook just to brag to my friends.

Seriously. Year 2010, people have gone to the moon long ago but in Australia you still need to PAY for wifi or go to a internet café.

What's worth seeing in Australia is in the ocean, the Coral Sea in particular.

I agree that everything on land is overpriced rubbish.

Spain, as in the coast and beaches around Barcelona. Extremely crowded, expensive, very touristy, the vibe is more industrial than relaxing. I'd rather go to Zaragoza, Seville or Madrid and cool down in a pool if I have to.

I didn't like Berlin that much, and I hated Moscow. I was also lukewarm on Madrid.

I really disagree with all of the Russia hype on the forum: the people were mainly ugly and rude, no one spoke English, living was expensive, and the weather sucks. That being said, a few art museums along the way were quite good.

Yep, I've always wondered why people go on cruises (not married over 55 on an AK cruise) and why anyone would go to an all-inclusive resort. I've been to Mexico 2x and opted out of the all-inclusive to go into towns and eat.

A cruise sounds miserable.

I went to Venice last year, everything was overpriced, I didn't find any decent bars, the restaurants were subpar. Seemed to be full of crap shops selling garbage.
