Each week I try to either identify and work on a certain aspect of my game, or keep working on the things I know I need work on.

One thing I'd like some advice on is how to diffuse the ugly/fat girl of the group ASAP.

I feel like I've gotten better by using body language (turning away as much as possible and avoiding eye contact at all costs for example) and I'm working on communication skills too.
For instance I won't cut them out entirely for that might make me seem like a dick but I will ignore them sometimes if it can be considered incidental.

Agreed. Generally, ignoring the fat/ugly friend will only make them angry and jealous of the attention their attractive friends are receiving, thus more likely to cockblock you. Work on winning them over before focusing on your target.

Agreed. Win over the friends and it works out a bit more. The girl I'm with now had a fat annoying roommate, but I was pleasant with her. My girl is very traditional, which I learned while waiting in line with them at a club. Going against what I typically do, I bought them each a drink. The fat one knew I was into her friend but was happy that I acknowledged her. It worked to my benefit, so give it a shot. Girls talk when they go to the bathroom, and you don't want fatty bad mouthing you all night. Although that can sometimes work in your favor.
