Netbook or Tablet for Travel?
I need to get something for travel. My laptop is to big and expensive to be carrying around places like CA & SA.

What yall think is better? Netbooks or tablets?

Do tablets have a place to put SD cards to upload pics from a camera?

RE: Netbook or Tablet for Travel?
The only problem with an iPad for travelling (only tablet I use) is that it doesn't have an ethernet port, so if you've got no wi-fi, you've got no internet.

Not sure where you're travelling to, but in China, wi-fi is not guaranteed.

internet and pictures mostly. a tablet will do fine. you can buy an attachment for pictures for an ipad and even a keyboard if you find yourself doing a lot of typing. much easier to carry then a netbook and battery last longer.

But netbooks are so much cheaper. With the risk of losing one, I would go for the cheapest netbook you can find. That way if it gets jacked in Southeast Asia or South America, you can just buy a new one. Gateway just released one that cost $240.

Netbook definitely, cheaper and perfect for your needs. Bought mines for £100, can do whatever you'd need a netbook for, I use it as my main computer these days.

RE: Netbook or Tablet for Travel?
I recently purchased the 7" Coby 7024 tablet for $160 on Amazon. It's fine for surfing and email and has a USB port. I'm probably going to return it for a 10" tablet or 10" netbook though, it's a bit small for any heavy surfing.

It's a lot better than my Android phone though. Surfing on that other than a small piece of info or the most essential updates is a pain.

Don't waste $400+ on a tablet though. In time, i'll bet that they only cost about $150-$200 with better technology than what you get today. Plus in CA/SA theft is a big risk.

Just get a 13 or 15 inch laptop, there's no real problem travelling with them.

RE: Netbook or Tablet for Travel?
I just recently purchased a Galaxy Tab 10.1 in El Paso a couple weeks back. It replaced an eee pc 901. It is the shit. It is far more aesthetically pleasing to pull out a screen than a whole netbook. It works better in a coffee shop or pub. Plus I can tuck it into my shirt if need be, like a long barrel .44, undetected.

The Tab is pure power. Ipad users cringe when I pull it out. It's like John Holmes pulling out his cock on a porn set. Respect bitches. It even comes w/ an app that makes wee little Apple users pee-pee their pants.

I can use my Samsung Wave II to tether the Tab for internet service, if wifi isn't available. Got the keyboard docking station too. Just in case.

RE: Netbook or Tablet for Travel?
you can a get a decent cheap netbook for under $300, but decent tablets are at least $400, so I'd definitely go with a netbook if i were you.

$833 with docking station, leather binder, and screen protector. Plus the $50 cab ride. The Asus transformer is much cheaper and has better connectivity. I really only bought it to torment the scores of Apple users I work with. In the end though, Angry Birds is Angry Birds, on any platform.

Do you mostly type, or mostly read/watch?
If you mostly type, netbook is better.
If you mostly read/watch, tablet is better.

Netbooks also are less expensive than tablets, and less desirable for criminals. Especially comparing to iPads.

Some do, some do not. For example, ipads and the latest Samsung Galaxy Tab do not. Previous Galaxy tab (which, in my opinion, is better), however, does.

I vote for a netbook. I bought a Dell netbook for $225 including tax and shipping. I just took it on a trip to Africa and it was perfect. It has an 8 hour battery life and has all the features of a much larger computer.

The thing with iPads is that for every non-standard option you have to buy some add-on and in the end you'll be sitting with a piece that costs far more than a laptop.

Not true, I bought this travel router http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/...CatId=2668 . My iPad2 goes where go.

Does this router work for 3g service? How do you get internet to the router. I'm needing one bad but don't understand how it works traveling abroad.

you wont need the router for 3g, the ipad is equipped with that. You can use it if your hotel room only has a landline connection available. Just plug the wired connection into the box and it generates the wifi signal you need.
