Khan Academy


I will start off by saying that the problem when I read books on history, finance, self-help I go into the topic without knowing the basic outline of the subject. This leads to me either not finding the subject as interesting or useful as I thought it would be and ends up me putting down the book and not finishing it.

I came about this site about a year ago but only recently did I really get into it.

For example if you want a history book but don't really know the period or subject you want to read about. Go view the "Crash Course:History" videos then when something catches your eye go find a book on the subject.

Or if you want to learn about Renting Vs Buying a Home go see the Housing section and learn about that.

Want to invest but don't know different types of mutual funds? They got that as well.

The website covers a lot of material on many subjects so if you just want to get a peak at a subject and a general understanding of it before starting too read a book on it.

I recommend the Crash Course series under the Partner Content. Also the Finance and Capital Markets section.[/b]

What this guy has set up for himself, through his business and on YouTube, is incredible. Whenever I had a teacher unable to educate me or in a time of need, I watched Khan Academy videos; the KA was my home for biology and physics courses. I'll second Donnie's claim that this is an undeniably helpful resource when it comes to both practical and more school-related education.

Khan Academy is amazing. It's a fantastic (and free) resource that you can get an entire high school education in and a significant part of the mathematics part of a college education in (haven't tried it for anything else). I highly recommend it, especially if anyone needs a refresher. Finance and CM stuff on there too seems spot on.

KHAN ACADEMY is Brilliant !!

I am convinced that his way of teaching math - from arithmetic to calculus - is superior to the typical US public school way in every way......

Khan Academy and other like it will make public school education and most university education obsolete !! it is that good.

Its is because of resources like his, that i have decide that when I have children I will home school.

The problem with Khan Academy is that you don't get a degree at the end.

And the problem with that is university is 95% about getting the degree and 5% learning shit.

When you go for a job - the guy interviewing you doesn't give a fuck what you know. Only that you have a piece of paper which says you jumped through the relevant hoops.

It is what it is.

Anybody seeking math or physics review can benefit from Khan Academy. I've been going through the basic math sections and plan on working through the advanced stuff and it's great. Awesome resource.

I've been intermittently plugging away at the math and physics sections for review. I was put through "advanced" math courses when I was young so I never learned the real basic shit. My goal is to get 100% of the math done by my next birthday.

I'm usually a pretty quick learner and prefer reading textbooks to watching videos, since textbooks allow you to go at your own pace.

But I will say that Khan academy and other video tutorials out there are pretty good when you have reached a state of mental exhaustion. It's a lot easier to force yourself to watch a video than to power through pages and pages of dense text.

I used Khan Academy for physics while I was studying for the MCAT last year and it's definitely a good supplement.

He simplifies complicated biology down so well, easy to understand

Combine Khan Academy and Coursera with CLEP tests, and the average student could save not only thousands and thousands of dollars, but a lot of time.

Racking up 50k+ in student debt isn't necessary with these tools at your disposal.

Job interviews typically don't go like this:

Interviwer: "Oh it says here you graduated from Khan Academy, where is that located?"

Me: "It's an online learning tool"

Interviewer: "Welcome aboard"

Not knocking on Khan Academy, just pointing out the obvious.

...at the moment, anyway. Similar things were said about Uber initially when it came to taxis: it's illegal, it won't be reliable, etc., etc. Ten years from now, who knows.

I think you misunderstood what I was getting at. I didn't say to not get a degree, I said to combine khan and clep to offset the costs of the degree. Clep alone will save someone thousands of dollars and numerous hours of time in a classroom. Their tests are accredited for most schools in the country.

Why go to math classes or micro/macro economics and pay 1k+ per class when you can learn the subject matter on Khan for free and take a clep test for 80 bucks?
