Random thought.

I have lost all interest in movies and TV. I don't think I will ever watch a film again. That decision is easier to make since there has been a drop off in quality over the past decade. Even The Coen Brothers are not making films as good as 'The Big Lebowski' or 'The Man Who Wasn't There'.

But that isn;t the driving factor behind my feelings towards film. I just cannot be bothered sitting through one. I get antsy having to sit in one place. I would much rather surf the net or read a book. The great thing about a book is you can put it down after 20 mins and pick it up again. Whereas with films you are stuck there for two hours.

Anyway - just curious if anybody else has come across somebody who started to develop a dislike for films in general? I can't believe I am the only one.

Personally I've got a hard time watching films since they're so blue pill that I can't stand it!!

You're not the only one. I've watched maybe half a dozen movies in the last year, and have no real desire to watch any more.

Hollwood sucks - it's either CGI explosions and no plot, or some longwinded bullshit about completely mundane shit. Basically any movie that comes with a review containing the word "harrowing" "powerful" or "compelling", you can guarantee will send me to sleep quicker than Mike Tyson. Not only do they bore me, they also ruin some of my fondest memories of franchises I loved when I was a kid.

Transformers was my favourite show - it's now fucked, thank to those awful movies.
The A-team - loved it, now it's been fucked.
Ninja Turtles - soon to be fucked.

Sure, hollywood aren't the only ones who make movies, but I'm even less into shitty foreign movies with subtitles. If I wanted to read, I'd read my book.

A typical movie only used to waste 90 minutes of my life. I could handle that, but nowadays it's more like 150 minutes. I just can't spend that long sitting on my arse, especially when 99% of the time, you know exactly how it's going to end. I reserve a special place of hatred in my heart for anything nominated for any kind of award - they're often 3 fucking hours of crap, designed to win awards from their own faggoty peers, rather than entertain.

Yeah - the award winning films are the worst.

I just don't like being spoon-fed entertainment anymore. I prefer to engage with it. I only read non-fiction. Which means I am regularly putting down a book in order to check something out on the internet or maybe order another book mentioned in the book I am reading.

I was lucky to see dozens of incredible films when I was in my teens. But having now watched the best films ever made. I can no longer be bothered keeping up to date with the new films. Since there will only be one great film every 3-4 years. And I can't be bothered sitting through all the average ones before I find it.

I've just grown out of films. In the same way I grew out of going to watch pantomime when I was a kid. I just don't give a shit about some made up story anymore.

If a movie is not about comic book characters that I grew up reading or some well-acted, well put together action film (like "Heat"), then it will be a hard time to get me to sit down and watch a movie.

I still really enjoy films.

After taking the red pill and seeing how many films cater to a female imperative, I do see how many movies have such a large focus on unrealistic relationships and sex and at times it can become extremely pathetic. This rules out 50% of movies nowadays for me.

But there are still many movies I can enjoy. Recently I watched Lone Survivor and loved that. I liked the Hobbit movie, even though the elf lady thrown in with some romance with the dwarf is 'blue pill' and does not add to the movie, the movie on it's own is great.

Hmm.. I've watched a few bank robbery movies recently. Inside man was great. The town had too large of a focus on a sexual relationship between the male and female protagonists, but the action and heist scenes were top notch and made up for that.

My only problem really with movies nowadays is how the spineless protagonist gets the girl. As long as it's not the focus of the movie it won't bother me that much. And sometimes you do have relationships and sex done right, even in a rom-com. Look at vicky christina barcelona. That movie is a rom-com that gets it right, and portrays how things actually happen.

I don't mind watching movies in cinemas, but the price has to be reasonable.

Sometimes I'll go do the early bird special at a local big box theatre nearby. Half priced entry for every movie which totals out to 11$.

The higher the price of entry for a movie, the less enjoyable the experience. I expect to be BLOWN away for a 22$ a ticket.

Not worth the price of admission.

They started replacing the shitty plastic seats with cushy leather recliners lately.

There's also a "dine in theater" that popped up. You can sit at a table and get dinner and drinks while watching a movie. Pretty dope. They have to try keep people interested in going to the movies somehow.

Movies have gone downhill, but your thread title is misleading as it includes all films.

Truth is that once you get into all of this manosphere stuff, the hollywood stuff start to have very little for a real man to relate to, and their are very few if any redpill Indie filmmakers that I can think of who are active right now.

Most of them are probably scripted and created by betas.

For more alpha movies you have to go back in time I believe.

I have the exact same problem. It's hard to find 2 hours straight of free time and invest it all into a movie that will most likely suck.

In addition, I just find that movie makers are losing the ability to tell a story. They lack cohesion and good balancing between scenes. Sometimes you will have a movie with 45 minutes of tension with no rest. Why would I sit through that when I can just go live my life which is full of this.

Plus, the actors generally annoy me. The men are too soft and the women too manly. I try to stick up to 50-70's movies and foreign movies.

While I do refuse to watch more movies nowadays, it only makes me appreciate the great movies even more. And great movies still do get made. Think of subtle, very life-like stories where not a single line is clunky or out of place, like Vicky Cristina Barcelona, Thank You For Smoking, The Bank Job, Little Miss Sunshine, Tropic Thunder or Inglorious Basterds. All recent movies. Plus, a movie doesn't need to actually be smart for me to enjoy it, it merely needs to pull it off for the duration (think Ocean's Eleven, Avengers or Dark Knight).

Of course I hate the rise of ass-kissing Oscar bait movies, but I think the rise of quality TV shows (think Mad Men, Rome, Borgias or Breaking Bad) more than makes up for it. All in all, I spend way less time behind the screen now, but enjoy it far more.

There was an excellent Cracked.com article on why games seem worse to us as we age (the main factor was "loss of imagination and desire for instant gratification"), which would seem to apply to movies as well.

I can't really say hate but in films things always compressed therefore it's more superficial. However while reading a book you get a lifetime experience in at least two days or a week.

I do agree that Hollywood films have become (for the most part) all about money and recycled plots. There seemed to be a time in the 1990s when the independent movement would break that cycle (remember the Quentin Tarantino of "Reservoir Dogs"?), but those hopes have been dashed.

But foreign films (Europe, East Asia, Australia, South America, Middle East) are a completely different story. Don't throw in the towel on movies in general just because of Hollywood bullshit. Do yourself a favor and subscribe to Netflix. It will open up a whole new world to you, once you see the good quality that's out there.

I transitioned out of movie-watching a few years back - it's only social obligations that make me sit through them. I've almost entirely transitioned out of watching television, as it's mostly just pointless bullshit to appeal to women padding the running time. I can think of 50 things I'd rather be doing than hearing people say "I have bad feeling about this".

The problem is sitting on a couch watching drivel seems to be the height of what the majority of women can think of to do with their time, (after social networking), so they think it's *weird* if I don't. Which is why I'd rather just bang, than date, because having to sit through hours of that shit is soul-destroying.

I don't mind watching the occasional good movie, but I view films a hell of a lot less than I did as a teenager. I used to spend most Fridays watching a movie before heading out to a party or meeting up with friends. Wake up hungover Saturday, watch another movie to kill the afternoon, then go out and party again.

Still, there are some I can watch over and over again - Casino, GoodFellas, Clerks, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, The Big Lebowski, etc.

Today I picked up 'The Great Gatsby' and 'Beats, Rhymes & Life: The Travels of a Tribe Called Quest' - looking forward to watching both, but I'll probably re-read The Great Gatsby before viewing the film.

I need to get NetFlix, I might watch more movies if I could access so many, so inexpensively.

I haven't watched a film since "2012", and I fell asleep in that one. They honestly bore me. I don't think it's because I have such a refined palate that I'm too good for the cinema, I just don't enjoy them. It's a real problem, actually, because I find it difficult to keep up with discussions on them.
IE: "Did you see Gravity?"
"Yeah, it's the one with the... gravity, right?"

I wouldn't say it's hurting my social life, as my social life is kinda oddball to begin with, but it does come up once in a while and it is an issue. A friend of mine who is by nature much more social than I am solves his problem by watching the Red Letter Media reviews of films. They include an in depth story summary and enough commentary that you can sound like you know what you're talking about, and they're pretty funny too.

^^^I can relate to this not because I never watch movies, but because I hardly ever have seen the Hollywood bullshit that everyone is always talking about. I went and saw Wolf of Wall Street Saturday night with a friend of mine. It was a waste of three hours, and if I had been alone, I would have left. The movie was that bad.

I only ever feel antsy watching Hollywood movies made in the last two to three decades (although there are some good ones in that batch). I can sit there re-watching Cool Hand Luke, Harakiri, Battle of the Bulge, Paths of Glory and other older films which clock in over 2 1/2 hours without being bored for a moment.

A 'geek' chick I was wheeling recently dragged me in to watch the latest Hobbit movie. 20 minutes of that dreck felt like 20 years in prison - I actually had a positive mental reaction when the movie was finally over. And that film is among the best movies Hollywood releases nowadays.

Get movie suggestions from some of the movie threads on the forum from fellow like minded men:

On top of that, vet movies you're considering watching first by checking their score on Rotten Tomatoes.

It's not perfect, and especially for things like comedies there can be a wide spread, but generally if something is under 50% there's usually legitimate reasons.

A good director who seems red pill is Derek Cianfrance, who directed The Place Beyond the Pines (2013). He also directed Blue Valentine, which Roissy reviewed positively though I haven't seen it. The Place Beyond the Pines was very good.
