Yesterday I had one of the best bus rides ever, I got on this mini-bus in the shit hole town of Buenaventura, Colombia to go back to Cali, its a three hour ride. It was hot as fuck and the bus didn't have AC, I got on and all of the seats were taken except two at the rear, there were four seats at the back and the two window seats were occupied, one by a young dude and the other by this hideous fat, sweaty beast. I sat next to the young dude then at the last minute another passenger gets on, she's a very cute 18 year old black chick and since there was only one seat left, she sat next to me. So we take off and after a few minutes she starts asking me all these questions about where I"m from, what I'm doing etc. The driver was a maniac and the road was super rough and eventually I put my hand on her knee to avoid falling out of my seat, she grabs my arm and things escalate. Within a half hour it gets dark and I start making out with this chick and eventually slip my fingers up her skirt and finger banged the fuck out of her, I don't know what the fat beast or dude beside me thought, my hand was covered by her bag but we were obviously making out. I saw a beast of a young Englishman start a fight with an old man the other night and bloody him up. Those old guys are my contemporaries. A couple of my former co-workers live in Bangkok and are married to Thai women - it's working out great for one, the other guy's complaining about being soaked by the family. Some of the old guys there have cool military, intelligence or other international experience. Some seem to maintain pretty well.

There are a lot of dissipated old fat white men in that part of the world. After three months in Bangkok, I understand how it happens. Living is easy and you stop dressing up, start wearing the flip-flops, hanging out drinking beer at your condo's restaurant after your som tam and cashew chicken. You have to make an effort to find better places to go to - for me, I read the Bangkok Post everyday and usually found some higher-end event every couple of days.

That article is mind blowing, its crazy to see what some of the greasy foreign dudes get on with in SE Asia, its one of the reasons that I prefer Colombia. It sounds crazy but SE Asia is almost "too safe" and the local culture too permissive of this sort of behaviour, if those idiots came to Colombia and tried pulling stunts like that, they'd be fucked. Most of the gringos I meet down here are well behaved and although sex tourism definitely thrives here, its nowhere near as "in your face" as it is over there.

Just out of curiousity..Any other reasons why you prefer SA over SEA?
I'm currently planning a SA trip so it would be interesting to hear your opinions.
