I have nothing to say about your job situation, but I thought Singapore was awesome. A great place if you like Asian girls.. the girls aren't the most attractive in Asia, but they're not bad, and English is spoken by most people. I had a GREAT time in Singapore. I'd go back again.

Question for the sing cats, are girls that focused on pedigree / money? I've never had to lean on that in London and here in the U.S... but I guess if it works, I should flash it? I went to Oxbridge and have an ivy league law degree, but leaning on that in the U.S. is pretty much a faux pas..

Persian-American living in Singapore here. I've been living here for about 4 months, will be staying for 2 years. I've just been out all night so can't write an essay but a couple things need to be pointed out:

- yes, being middle eastern will group you with the undesirables (i.e. indians, malays) and it does suck. Unless you dress super flashy to show you are American, nearly all Singaporean locals will by default shun you. Obviously if you make some social circles and they know your deal then it's different.

- if you want to travel that much, you have to live on the east coast. I'm a bit on the west side (9km west of center) and it takes 1.5 hours to get to the airport, and you have to get there 45 mins in advance. I have friends who live 10 mins from the airport and it's such less of a psychological barrier. But, if you have the $$$ you may be taxiing it anyways.

- girls only care about pedigree because men have nothing else to offer them. Locals have zero game, zero charm. So, do NOT blame the girls for their behavior, as $$$ is all they have to go by. I have a pretty international group of friends so i love being different from the crowd and things work for me.

What are the business prospects like in Singapore. Let's say you were interested in making investments throughout SE Asia. Is Singapore a good home base?

I know that it's pretty easy to move capital in and out. How is the expat business community? Is it all guys working for big international firms or is there a big expat entrepreneur scene? Do guys working regular jobs do a lot of side hustling? As a foreigner, can you safely put your money places without having to worry about being shaken down by a local or by the government.

The business climate is the thing that attracts me most to Singapore.

What Cyclone said regarding the airport. And this limits what cities you will want to fly into as well. No outlying airports. You need well connected, efficient airports.

Your work hours will be insane. Hopping on a red eye on friday night will suddenly seem like a pain in the ass.

And competing with socially retarded Singaporean guys for equally retarded Singaporean girls seems like a fools errand. Dealing with them will have any RVF man wanting to start tossing Asian chicks/dudes off Quays.

Congrats on the job. Singapore is about money. Understand that first, and find a way to get girls second. Its one city where hookers dont seem like a bad investment.

That's quite helpful. What districts would you recommend I look at? I am trying to find an apartment.

Since income is not an issue (I hope!), I am young and want to be able to make the most of the city. Areas with easy access to the airport and nightlife are probably top of my list, as well as any areas I guess that make the girls swoon... given they seem to care so much about pedigree and material things.

Sounds like a guy with pedigree and game can do well?

Haha definitely true. But don't want to resign myself to that fate already, let the chips fall where they may.. I am going to make an effort.

For the Singapore experts: do you recommend getting a car? Seems like it's absurdly expensive to import and maintain one.

Get a motorcycle. People actually follow the traffic rules in Singapore compared to the rest of SE Asia. The roads are very well maintained. Warm weather year round only problem is rainy season.

You will discover more about Singapore in a month if you drive a motorbike around then what you will see in a year just taking taxis and public transport.

If you want a super easy bike to drive get an automatic scooter like a Honda Scoopi. If you want more of a sportsbike but still cheap go with the Honda CBR 150R.

Get a motorcycle.... thank me later Smile

I found an apartment in the Marina Bay region -- it's at the Sail @ Marina Bay. The local staff suggest this is a good location, good building. The pictures look pretty decent too.

Any thoughts from experts in Singapore on the area? Are the logistics favorable here? It's close to the Marina Bay Sands, I don't know how much of a hotspot that place is though.

Also, I am going to use this thread as a Datasheet / Compendium of experiences once I move. So stay tuned folks!

Edit: This is the building http://condo.singaporeexpats.com/condo/2...MARINA-BAY

Those salaries are pretty nuts. I'm guessing its highly competitive to get a job at a UK or US international office in Singapore.

top schools are a diff world, they know you're very bright and tireless.
just to get in is a huge accomplishment

Bit more dark-skinned actually..

I am kind of surprised by all this race focus honestly. I am a decent looking guy, I dress well, born and raised in the UK, most people in the U.S. don't even ask where I am from / guess it might be South America or Southern Europe.

no, not kissing ass to elite intellectual status is a USA aberration, in the rest of the world and asia they respect elite degrees, it's a ticket away from fear of need forever. that comes with your birth cert in USA so it't not as valued. you've got YoungTallCoolMoney--unbeatable-- too, a smart hapa chick might latch on leechlike----she might not have pressure to marry chinese and be more lively and better looking anyway

Started using OkCupid and some other local dating sites to start surveying the scene for my arrival. Some observations:

- Singapore girls seem... ok. A lot of them are career types, so they get more excited when I tell them I am a lawyer, then they ask where I am from, where I went to school. I've founded it easier to converse with the sexy looking career type girl who seems pretty eager to meet, but probably looking for something more long-term.

- Getting some decent incomings from younger girls, find that interesting. Lots of 22ish year olds.

- Sending outgoings to girls in Hong Kong and Bangkok -- much better quality, much better response rates.

What's the best site for Singapore and Hong Kong?
